Chapter 1820: Help with a condition

Tap.

Adam tossed Laroza the azure tooth. She caught it, keeping a smirk on her face.

“You did it. It wasn’t that hard, was it?”

“Yeah, but this whole aura thing, I never thought this power would ever become important again. After the K2 or K3 level, the aura stopped being a weapon and became more of a way to get rid of the weaklings in your path.” Adam waved his hand dismissively.

In fact, he was right.

For fighters as strong as he was, the aura served as a warning to others. Weaker monsters wouldn’t attack him once they sensed his power, and those several levels below him would immediately lose consciousness if they got too close to his aura.

Laroza’s eyes flashed. She knew far more about auras than he did.

“In the future, the aura will become even more important than it is now, if, of course, you ever manage to reach the next level.”

Adam’s face suddenly grew serious as he clenched his fist.

“You can count on it. Very soon, I’ll become the new Second Rank Phantom, and before long, I’ll be just as strong as you!”

Laroza chuckled, raising a bottle of beer to her lips.

“Whoa, that’s a bold statement, but I like it.”

Adam crossed his arms over his chest.

“So, what’s next?” He glanced at the azure tooth. “I got this tooth just like you asked. Now that I’ve passed through two different aura barriers, am I ready to head to the Gray Sea?”

Laroza nodded deeply as she lifted the bottle to look at it. She had only half left. That was all she had.

“Yes, but we need to stop by Varreyn.”

“Hmm? What for?”

“Well, first of all, I’m running out of beer. Second, I’m sure you’ll be interested in visiting your second monster city and…”

Her gaze shifted to Adam.

“Aiden told me about your last condition. The Bottomless Void, right?”

Adam frowned.

“And? So what?”

“Well, I think I know someone who can help you. You’re unlikely to find out exactly where your last condition is, but in your situation, any clue would be helpful, wouldn’t it?”

Adam was silent for a moment, thinking.

“If we go to Varreyn, will I be able to find out information there about one specific person?”

“Hmm? Do you want to find someone in the city?” Laroza was confused.

In response, Adam shook his head.

“Not exactly. But I suppose I can be straightforward with you.”

In an instant, Adam’s expression changed, becoming colder.

“Before I left the Citadel, I received an assassination order. I’m supposed to kill a monster who’s currently at the Gray Sea on one of the islands. I want to find out if he’s still in the same place and, in general, gather some information about him.”

Laroza didn’t know who Adam was talking about. Millions of monsters lived in the Deep Ring of the Tarnished Lands, and thousands of powerful monsters were at the Gray Sea on this side.

However, from Adam’s expression, she could tell this wasn’t a simple matter.

“Huh, that’s unexpected,” Laroza said slowly.

“What are you talking about? Are you saying you didn’t know that the Citadel issues orders to kill certain monsters?”

The corners of Laroza’s mouth turned up as she shook her head.

“No, that’s not what I’m talking about. The Citadel entrusted you with killing a Baron. That says a lot about how they see your future, Adam.”

For a moment, Adam froze as a shiver ran through his body.

“You figured it out…? How?”

Laroza shrugged.

“I don’t know exactly who you were ordered to kill, but from your reaction, it was obvious that this opponent is stronger than you, at least in terms of power level. Given your level, going up against someone stronger than a Baron is 100% suicide.”

“What about a Baron? Do you think I can handle it?” Adam asked, his gaze showing that he wanted to know the answer.

Sure, Farla and the other officers of the Gamma Division were confident that Adam could handle it, otherwise, they wouldn’t have given him this mission, but for Adam, Laroza’s opinion mattered more since she was much stronger and older.

Laroza didn’t answer. She glanced at Adam, swirling the beer bottle in her hand with a slight smirk on her face.

“A lot depends on what kind of Baron it is and on which island it’s located. You know about the island system, don’t you?”

“Yes. The higher the number, the stronger the monsters you might encounter there. The island where my target is located is called A113.”

For a moment, Laroza’s eyes widened as she stared at a single point for a while.

“A113? Huh? Not bad for your first visit to the Gray Sea. Then again, after you went through my training and withstood the pressure of Tooth Lake, you’d have nothing to do on weaker islands.”

She took one last sip before continuing:

“If your target were at A23 or A57, for example, it would be an easy job. You don’t often encounter the Lords on islands like those. They usually head for more challenging territories.”

Step.

Adam stepped forward, staring intently at Laroza.

“So? What about my chances? I gather that the gap between the 99th island and the 100th is quite significant, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, you’re right. The leap in power and danger is much greater than between the 98th and 99th islands. Still, until you name that Baron, I can’t tell you anything for sure.”

Adam hesitated for a moment, but he’d already said quite a lot.

“Breydar. He arrived at the Gray Sea recently, after killing a lot of Phantoms. For some reason, he fled here, he’s being hunted.”

“Hmm…” Laroza hummed. “Breydar? I’m sorry, but I don’t recognize that name.”

After that, Laroza stood up and tossed the empty bottle into Tooth Lake.

“Come on, follow me.”

“Agh? Where?”

She glanced back over her shoulder with a smirk.

“Have you already forgotten? We’ll find out everything at Varreyn, but if this Breydar is stronger than the usual Barons, I’d say your chances are 50/50 right now.”

“50/50…” Adam muttered.

He looked at the great city in the distance and smiled.

“That’s enough.”
