Chapter 2001: The Worst Knight
Chapter 2001: The Worst Knight
One of the strongest people Adam had ever met was, without a doubt, Goen. He didn’t know exactly what level Goen was at, but Adam was certain that even among the Second-Rank Phantoms, Goen held a special place.
This was a logical conclusion, given Goen’s title: First Knight of the World End.
Adam hadn’t managed to find out much about the World End. But there was something Goen decided to tell Adam, even though he wasn’t supposed to know it.
The World End was a squad of Second-Rank Phantoms, and they were subordinate to the King, at least when their squad was active.
In addition, Adam also learned about the Manifest Nexus, but this had nothing to do with the World End squad. It depended on how strong a Phantom was.
Only Second-Rank Phantoms possessing sufficient power could obtain the Manifest Nexus. This required the highest level of connection between a Phantom and an Operator.
Thus, the fact that Kamora turned out to be a Second Knight of the World End came as a shock not only to him but also to Durand, who finally realized just how dangerous his enemy was.
“Y-You…” Durand muttered. He was mostly speechless as his eyes shifted from Kamora to the tattoo on her shoulder. He could clearly see that it was a “2.”
“How… how is this possible? The World End? Do you still exist?”
A shiver ran through his entire body as fear filled his eyes.
“Huh, surprised?” Kamora smirked. She knew he would react this way.
You couldn’t blame Durand for that.
He had lived in this world for a long time and understood which opponents he was capable of defeating and against whom his chances were slim.
Sure, ever since he became a True Lord, almost every being in this world was weaker than him. Every First Rank Phantom and every monster below his level was incapable of harming him.
The only ones who could defeat him and pose a threat to him were other True Lords, and only the strongest among them, as well as the most powerful Second Rank Phantoms.
If he were facing someone at the level of the Twelve Branches, Durand would have been confident of victory.
Well, he was. He thought Kamora was at exactly that level, since he didn’t know who she really was. He didn’t know which faction she belonged to or what family she was part of.
Had Durand heard of the World End?
Sure, but he didn’t know all the members of that squad. That was information even he didn’t have access to.
He tried to find out more about the World End, but every time he failed. It was a secret known to very few, and the reason for that was that members of the World End rarely revealed themselves.
If Adam and Alexia hadn’t shown up in the Primal Lands and the Befallen Crown hadn’t been hunting Adam, Goen wouldn’t have had to reveal his true identity.
In fact, even in this situation, he did it more because of Arika’s desire to end everything quickly and not put Adam and Alexia in even greater danger.
Kamora found herself in a similar situation.
She could have continued fighting in her current state, but once Adam appeared here, she immediately changed her mind.
Durand frowned as darkness swirled around him in protective currents.
“Second Knight?” He narrowed his eyes. “What? Didn’t you have enough strength to become the First?”
Kamora chuckled.
“Hahaha! You’re trying to look intimidating after getting scared by my title. Anyway, I’ll answer your question.”
She waved her hand dismissively.
“Yeah, the First Knight is stronger than me, which is exactly why Goen is the First Knight and I am the Second Knight. Satisfied?”
Durand turned to Adam, who was still sitting on the shark. Even though he was facing two powerful warriors, he wasn’t worried.
The moment he saw Kamora, and especially when Kamora revealed that she was a Second Knight, he realized that victory would be theirs.
Kamora was exactly the Second-Rank Phantom he wanted to have on his side in this battle.
“What about you?” Kamora glanced at Adam. “You’re surprised, and that’s strange. That means you know what my title means, but how?”
Adam smiled bitterly, recalling the events that had taken place in the Primal Lands.
“The truth is, I once met Goen. He saved me, and if it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be here.”
Kamora blinked several times as realization hit her.
“Oh… Huh, now I have to save you. At this rate, you’ll be in debt to our whole squad. But it’s not entirely your fault – the Befallen Crown is hunting you and wants to kill you. So, in a way, you didn’t have a choice.”
Adam looked at Kamora, and something in his gaze changed.
“It’s strange that you don’t know about this. My encounter with Goen happened quite a while ago. Didn’t he tell you anything?”
Kamora shook her head.
“Maybe it seems like a long time has passed since you met him, but most likely, for me and for him, it’s nothing significant. Either way, the last time I saw him was a few years ago.”
Adam’s gaze grew deeper as he once again realized just how short, and at the same time, how fast, his path had been for others.
‘A few years? That was enough time for my life to change drastically, but for her, it’s just a period between meetings with an old friend.’
Tremble.
Kamora’s aura trembled as the gray jaw appeared behind her.
One of the gray jaw’s fangs fell out as it headed toward Adam, enveloping him in a protective dome.
“Sit there and watch me beat the crap out of that bastard! Hahaha! I advise you to watch closely – it’s going to be quite a show!”
Adam looked at the barrier. It didn’t look particularly sturdy, but it should be enough to protect him from a few of Durand’s attacks.
‘Good,’ Adam nodded, a warm smile on his face. ‘Now I have nothing to worry about.’
