Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 2004: Golden Jaw

Chapter 2004: Golden Jaw

Adam and Silvana, in particular, closely observed the interaction between Lamora and Kamora. After all, they were the second pair to use the Manifest Nexus.

Sure, only Second-Rank Phantoms had access to this power, so there were very few such people, but even among the Second-Rank Phantoms, Kamora held a special status.

She wasn’t necessarily the strongest of them all, but she shared a history with Goen, after all, they were both members of the World End.

Ironically, it was Goen who was the first to show them the Manifest Nexus, along with Arika, and Kamora and Lamor were the second.

Adam and Silvana encountered several Second-Rank Phantoms along their path, but only Kamora and Goen had to fight in earnest, or fight at all.

Thus, for Adam and Silvana, and for their future, it was important to remember everything that happened between Kamora and Lamor: what they said, how they acted, and most importantly, the state of their energy.

“Goen had a huge sword, and Kamora had that hammer…” Silvana muttered with a touch of envy as she looked at Lamor. “Damn it. I want to help Adam that way, too! Why don’t we have that power yet?”

Well, Silvana knew the reason – the Grand Barrier. If they ever wanted to obtain the Manifest Nexus, they would first have to break through the Grand Barrier.

However, Adam couldn’t do that right now, but he could learn a lot by watching the two warriors, who were at the highest level of this world, fight.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

Kamora’s aura trembled as her gray aura completely surrendered to Lamor’s amber.

The light around her began to resemble a flame, powerful and bright, refusing to let darkness in.

The grim clouds trembled just as the water beneath her did, even though Kamora hovered high above the ground.

The worst part for Durand was that Kamora’s abilities were still with her. Her “Devour Energy” had altered its properties to match Lamor’s light, but the gray jaw remained with her, as did her mutations.

“Adam.”

Her voice rang out as she stared intently at Durand.

“Watch closely. This is the power you’ll attain when you become a Second Rank Phantom. After what I’ve done for you today, you have no choice but to do this.”

Tremble!

Her legs trembled, transforming into something else. Now, instead of ordinary human legs, she had blue, monstrous ones. On their surface were dark, granite-like scales, between which pulses ran like veins carrying a great deal of energy.

“A new trick?” Durand frowned.

He swung his scythe as dark currents swirled around him, shielding him from the heat of her light, which grew stronger with every passing second.

“That won’t help you!”

Kamora grinned.

“Huh, are you getting nervous already? Good, that means you know you’re going to lose!”

Whooooooosh!

Kamora surged forward as her legs trembled.

She had always been fast, her speed had even thrown Durand, a True Lord, off balance, but now she had taken it to a whole new level for the sake of this single leap.

The pulses on her legs flared brightly as her body transformed into a blue blur that, like a shooting star, crashed down on Durand.

However, even so, Durand managed to react.

His eyes darted to the side as he saw Kamora appear high above him.

It happened so quickly that Adam and Silvana were still staring at the spot where Kamora had just been. Neither he nor Silvana nor the black-and-white shark had yet realized that Kamora had vanished.

“Your light won’t help you!” Durand shouted as the dark flows surged forward.

Each dark flow formed a single layer of the barrier, and in just a moment there were more than ten of them. Even a single barrier was strong enough to withstand a blow from a True Lord or a Second-Rank Phantom, regardless of their energy and abilities.

But… that was no obstacle for Kamora.

She didn’t need to strike with her hammer. Her solar light, which surrounded her, and her enormous energy reserves were enough.

Crackle! Crackle! Crackle!

One barrier after another shattered into fragments, but Durand had anticipated this. That was precisely why he had imbued each barrier with a fragment of his energy.

The fragments transformed into evil spirits filled with death energy as they headed toward Kamora. All the spirits had to do was touch her, and the process of decay and corrosion would inevitably begin. The effect would have been significantly stronger than when Kamora was first exposed to Durand’s death energy.

But…

All the spirits simply burned up in her light. None of them could get close to her. In fact, they began to burn even before they touched the light, and as they approached, the intensity of the flames only grew stronger.

In just a second, Kamora reached the final barrier just as Adam and Silvana turned around. Now, they could see the actual fight.

“Good luck surviving this, you bastard!” Kamora exclaimed with an excited smile spreading across her face.

Soon, Durand realized what was causing her joy.

At that moment, Lamor’s golden hand appeared behind her, it waved as if giving a command to someone or something.

Without hesitation, the gray jaw, which was part of Kamora’s aura and powers, moved toward her hammer, filling it with power.

Now, the hammer head surrounded the golden jaw, trembling with energy as Kamora poured enough of her energy into this single strike to blow up a mountain if necessary.

“NO!”

Durand’s pupils narrowed as he raised his scythe above his head in hopes of blocking her hammer.

Crack!

The black scythe shattered into countless fragments, flying past Durand’s shocked eyes.

In the next heartbeat, Kamora’s hammer slammed into his shoulder.

There was no explosion or burst of energy. Moreover, Durand’s shoulder remained intact. Not even his coat was damaged.

It was a brief exchange.

“Time to eat!” Kamora declared vigorously.

The golden jaw covering her hammer crashed down on Durand in a single snap, devouring his entire right side, whether it was his shoulder, ribs, arms, or internal organs – leaving only a bloody mess in its place.
