Chapter 2007: Speed and the Light Barrier

Chapter 2007: Speed and the Light Barrier

Adam, Kamora, and Lamor hovered off to the side, looking at the granite crypt in the middle of the Gray Sea.

Kamora had completed its construction. Where the arena once stood, Durand’s grave now lay, or rather, what remained of him after her last strike.

“Do you do this to all your opponents?” Adam asked, looking at the tall granite pillars and the faint glow from the crystals all around.

“No.” Kamora shook her head. “Durand turned out to be weaker than me, he lost, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was a True Lord – one of the few. On the one hand, it’s a recognition of his strength. On the other, it’s a precaution.”

She looked around.

“All this time, I’ve been scanning the area around us. There’s definitely no one here, otherwise, I would’ve noticed, but I’d rather be sure that no one will interfere with the outcome of our battle. So, for Durand, this was the end.”

Adam gave the granite crypt a long look before nodding and turning to Kamora.

“Does that mean we’re heading back to the Citadel?”

Kamora smiled as she crossed her arms over her chest.

“Of course! I’m sure you’ve spent enough time in the Tarnished Lands and the Gray Sea!”

Adam’s expression grew more serious, and for good reason.

“Are we going to use the Void Transit? There must be a suitable route somewhere, right?”

Kamora shrugged.

“We could do it that way, sure, but there’s no need.”

“Hmm?” Adam was confused. He knew that the Void Transit was the fastest way to travel across the world, since the distance between the Citadel and the Dark Shore was enormous.

Lamor, who was standing nearby, smiled broadly.

“Come on, Adam, you’re standing in front of a Second-Rank Phantom, a special one at that. Do you really think Kamora needs something like that? Besides, how do you think Durand got here?”

Adam glanced at the granite crypt before turning to Kamora.

“Are you saying he just flew here?”

Strange as it seemed, Kamora nodded.

“Exactly. Do you even have any idea how fast a True Lord can move? Even if Durand didn’t use any abilities to do it, it took him no more than a few hours to get here.”

Adam and Silvana exchanged glances.

“Wait… A few hours?” Silvana muttered. “Does that mean the Befallen Crown sent Durand here almost as soon as they found out, almost as soon as Adam defeated Midgar?”

“Midgar? Who the hell is that?” Kamora raised an eyebrow with a slight frown.

“Ah?” Adam was puzzled. “You don’t know about this?”

Lamor placed a hand on Kamora’s shoulder.

“I think it would be best to explain everything along the way, Adam. Unlike me, Kamora hasn’t been following the latest world news. But before that, give me your hand.”

Adam looked at Lamor and did as he was told.

Tap.

Their hands touched as the golden light flowed toward Adam, enveloping him in a warm glow.

“This light is different from the one I used when Kamora was fighting.”

“And what is the purpose of this light?”

Lamor smiled.

“To protect you.”

Before Adam could ask about it, Kamora took his hand, quite firmly.

“Get ready. I’ll do all the work, but you’re not used to this. We’re heading straight to the Citadel!”

At that very moment, a gray aura burst forth from Kamora as her body trembled.

In the blink of an eye, she reached tremendous speed as she surged forward, getting faster and faster with every passing second.

At first, Adam didn’t think there was anything special about it. If he wanted to, he could reach about 50% of that speed, maybe even more.

But when Kamora smirked, that’s when the situation became truly dangerous for Adam.

She was getting faster and faster. Now, Adam could barely reach even 20% of that speed.

The clouds, which usually seemed stationary, were rushing past them at great speed, as was the ground far below.

Even massive islands didn’t stay in their field of vision for long.

Lamor’s light protected Adam, but soon, Adam felt a pressure he hadn’t felt before.

“What the…?” Adam was thrown off balance. “What’s going on?”

He watched as the light trembled while goosebumps ran down his skin.

“Hey, Adam,” Kamora smirked. “Since I made a new deal with that shark, you didn’t have to give it your energy, so I advise you to use everything you have right now. I’m going to get even faster, which means the pressure will get even stronger.”

Kamora wasn’t going to wait for his answer or approval. She simply sped up as Adam’s eyes widened.

Lamor’s light began to crumble, tearing like fabric, as Adam hurried to release his blue energy, maintaining the golden light around himself.

Lamor, who remained nearby, nodded with satisfaction.

“Good, very good. Keep it up. This could be good training for you if you look at it from this perspective.” Lamor was in his spectral form so as not to waste energy on movement and to stay close to Kamora.

Adam didn’t respond.

Perhaps he wanted to say something, but he simply couldn’t, as all his energy was focused on a single task – not losing the protective barrier.

“Damn, this is harder than it looks.” Adam clenched his teeth. “Training, huh? Yeah… but this feels more like torture!”

This pressure was different from what Adam had experienced when a powerful opponent tried to overwhelm him through his aura.

The speed itself was trying to shatter Adam’s body, to stop him.

But thanks to his own sturdy body, his energy, and Lamor’s help, Adam managed to pull it off.

“Gha…” Adam exhaled deeply when he was able to stabilize the barrier, which now consisted of half of the blue threads, his aura, and Lamor’s light.

Lamor smiled.

“What do you think?”

Kamora nodded.

“Yeah, not bad. Okay, Adam, now that you’re no longer fighting for your life, I want you to tell me what the hell happened to you at the Gray Sea.”

“It’s strange that you don’t know anything,” Adam noted.

Kamora frowned.

“Talk, or I’ll let go of your hand right now.”

Adam gulped.

“S-Sure, no need to get worked up, just not right now.”
