Chapter 618: Alex’s Worst Fear
Chapter 618: Alex’s Worst Fear
’How did this happen... again?’ Alex stared at the ceiling in a daze.
When he woke up, he had mysteriously found himself on Latifa’s bed, surrounded on all sides.
The fox lady was on his right side, and Evangeline on his left. Lavinia was above his head, while Fran lay above him, her head resting on his chest.
From his hazy memory, he recalled it might’ve begun after Lala left for Reverse Arcana.
Lulu had quickly taken a seat beside him and hugged his arm, then announced her plan to sleep beside Alex.
Her words weren’t the issue at all. But after saying them loud enough for all his lovers to hear, she fanned the flames by following up with, "I’ll make you a real man tonight."
Unsure whether she was serious or joking, Alex subconsciously replied that he was looking forward to it.
When the party ended, and the majority of the guests had left, Lulu grabbed Alex’s hand.
She then told the ladies she and Alex would take a stroll in the town and they shouldn’t wait for their return.
Latifa, Fran, Evangeline, and Lavinia took action and clung to Alex, prying Lulu’s hands off his body.
Worried Lulu might sneak into Alex’s dorm room when they weren’t around, the ladies decided to take matters into their own hands and ensure he wouldn’t be going anywhere tonight.
Lulu only smiled mischievously as she watched everything unfold. Alex felt like she already got what she wanted and suspected this might be part of her plans.
Looking at the sleeping Fran on his chest, Alex thought about how surprisingly light she was.
Who would expect that this innocent and harmless looking young lady was stronger than him?
Comparing their strength wouldn’t even do her justice. If anyone thought they could take advantage of Fran just because of her size, they would find themselves facing a punch from a Rank 5 Dwarven Berserker, whose attack could shatter bones with a single hit.
A few minutes later, he finally closed his eyes. Lotte, Lumi, and Lulu watched as Alex’s breathing slowed down and entered deep sleep.
Lulu smirked. The four ladies could guard Alex as much as they wanted, but they couldn’t block her in his dreams.
But before she could do anything, Lumi approached her and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Don’t even think about it," Lumi said in a serious tone.
"Ara? I’m not doing anything, Lumi," Lulu replied with a smile. "What are you expecting me to do?"
"Latifa is probably inside Alex’s dream right now," Lotte commented from the side. "I would appreciate it if you don’t disturb her quality time with Alex."
Truth be told, Lumi also wished to visit Alex in his dream and spend some time with him on the night of his birthday. But she was currently on watch duty to prevent Lulu from getting out of hand.
In the end, she could only sigh and allow their Master, Latifa, to take dibs on the young man in his dreams.
Little did they know that Latifa was currently struggling to enter Alex’s dream. Some kind of invisible barrier seemed to block her from doing so.
As the young lady tried again for the umpteenth time, Alex found himself waking up in his old apartment.
Panicking, he quickly propped himself up from the bed.
Alex didn’t want to admit it, but there were times he worried about what he should do if his life in Arcana was a mere dream.
What if he woke up back on Earth and realized everything he experienced wasn’t real? His love, his relationships, his connections, his adventures... as well as Dim Dim.
The thought occasionally woke him up in cold sweat, then he’d desperately look at his surroundings to check if he was dreaming or not.
Sometimes, Alex would even hurt himself, like pinching his arm, to double check if he could feel pain.
And just like what he did at least once a week, he pinched his arm to ground himself to reality.
But a moment later, his eyes widened in shock. A word spoken hoarsely escaped his lips.
"N-No..."
He felt pain when he pinched his arm!
"No! This can’t be!" Alex said desperately. "This is not true! I’m just dreaming! I need to wake up!"
Alex was about to slam his head on the wall to wake himself up when a pair of arms wrapped itself on his body and pulled him back.
"Stop Alex!" Noelle shouted. "Stop hurting yourself!"
Hearing her voice, Alex stopped struggling. He panted for breath and tried to calm his wildly beating heart.
If it were any other person, Alex might have tried to overpower them and bash his head on the wall. But since it was her, the young man couldn’t bear to do anything that would hurt her in any way.
A few tense minutes passed before the young man finally calmed down.
"Noelle..." Alex said, his tone gentle, yet filled with anxiety. "Am I drea..."
But when he saw her expression, the words he wanted to say became stuck in his throat.
She was staring at his face, her eyes drooping and lips downturned.
"Nevermind," Alex said before reaching out to hug her. "I’m sorry. I was just confused."
"Un." Noelle nodded. "Are you hungry?"
Alex was about to say no since he had eaten a lot during his birthday party. To his surprise, he found himself starving.
In fact, his stomach even chose that moment to growl, making Noelle giggle.
"Alright, let’s cook together," Noelle said before pulling Alex’s hand to head to the door. "I’ve brought ingredients, so I’ll cook you your favorite foods. After all, today is your birthday."
Those words should have given him some peace of mind. But it didn’t.
He had just had a wonderful birthday celebration, but now he felt cold.
Only the warmth Noelle shared as she held his hand gave him some sense of calm.
Without her, Alex might have done something extremely reckless, like returning to the world where his true happiness awaited his return.
