Chapter 624: This World Held Endless Possibilities
Chapter 624: This World Held Endless Possibilities
When Alex went to visit Fran to keep his promise, he was surprised to see the farm house bigger.
Well, bigger wasn’t the exact term. It had gotten an extension as big as their original house.
Noticing his reaction, Fran explained that they had expanded their house to accommodate the Dryads. She made sure not to mention that Layla and Sylphy called the new wing their love nest to avoid any kind of misunderstandings!
"I see." Alex nodded before glancing at Lavinia, who was also seated at the table, waiting for dinner to be served.
Fran had personally invited her over for a sleepover, and the Catkin had accepted without hesitation.
At that moment, Francesca, Layla, and Sylphy came out of the kitchen, carrying trays with food.
They had insisted on cooking today’s dinner, wanting Finn to taste their cooking. The Dryads had learned from the Musical Fairies that the secret to a man’s heart was through his stomach.
That meant that if they wanted to make Finn totally smitten with them, they must also learn how to cook!
With this in mind, the three ladies had gone to the library to look for cooking books. They had even asked Fran to teach them!
Surprisingly, the ladies were very fast learners. After a few days of experimentation, they had felt confident enough and offered to take responsibility for today’s dinner.
Just as the three of them were setting food on the table, Finn arrived. His hair was still damp as he had just taken a shower after a day of working in the smithy.
Usually, he would just wipe his sweat with a towel and change his clothes. However, ever since the Dryads had moved in, he had started being more particular about his personal cleanliness. Of course, Fran had no complaints about that.
After everyone was seated, they prayed to the God of Food to thank him for the food. The moment the prayer ended, they started to eat.
Of course, Dim Dim was also there, and its little plate was filled with meatballs.
The little bun ate with a look of satisfaction on its face, making the dryads smile. They then shifted their attention to Finn, who had just taken a spoonful of meat and vegetable stew, because his opinion was what mattered to them the most.
"It’s delicious," Finn said before looking at his sister. "This tastes different from the way you prepare it. But it’s still good. Did you try a new recipe?"
The three Dryads did a fist pump. Their cooking had passed with flying colors! They had kept their cooking classes secret from Finn because they wanted to surprise him!
"I wasn’t the one who cooked today’s dinner," Fran replied. "It was Francesca, Layla, and Sylphy who cooked all the food here on the table."
"Hah?" Finn was genuinely surprised, not expecting the dryads knew how to cook. "They made this?"
Fran nodded. "Yes. I taught them a bit these past few days, but ultimately, their hard work has paid off."
Finn looked at the three ladies, who were all smiles after he praised their cooking.
"It is delicious," Finn said a second time. "Thank you for the meal."
"Anytime!" Francesca replied.
"We will cook every day if you want!" Layla said.
"We will let you eat us anytime you want!" Sylphy added. "Just like what you did the other night!"
Finn almost choked on the second spoonful of soup.
Fran blinked while Lavinia blushed after hearing something so unexpected.
As for Alex, he simply plastered a mischievous smirk on his face. He even gave the three Dryads a thumbs up in his heart for helping his brother-in-law mellow out a bit.
Unlike before, they could now hold conversations. There were even times Finn would take the initiative to greet Alex when the latter visited the farm.
There was no doubt that he returned from the Shadow Forest as a changed man—err, dwarf.
After that small hiccup, everyone ate their dinner in a lively atmosphere. The dryads were very happy that Finn liked their cooking, while Alex was happy because his future brother-in-law was happy.
He then talked about his upcoming trip to the land of Chuck’s family.
Since Dim Dim, Chuck, and Renard were going to accompany him, Fran and Lavinia no longer felt too anxious.
In fact, the troublemaker had gotten carried away and tried to invite Charles to go with them! Fortunately, Charles had politely declined the offer to prevent a calamity from falling on the Duchy of Emberholt.
When dinner ended, the ladies cleared the table and washed the dishes together.
Alex and Finn were left to talk in private. The dwarf even asked the young man what kind of gifts the ladies wanted, as he truly had no idea what gifts to give the dryads to show his appreciation.
"How about you give them some rings?" Alex said mischievously. "I’m sure they’d love it."
Finn wanted to roll his eyes. He wasn’t born yesterday and fully understood what it meant to give a ring to a lady.
In fact, he couldn’t help but glance at the Gaia Ring Alex was wearing. His sister also had one, making them a pair.
Of course, he knew of their origin as he had also been in the dungeon that fateful day.
He had also come to accept that Fran and Alex would spend this lifetime together. Although he hadn’t commented on their relationship explicitly, he had already given them his silent blessings.
When the ladies finished washing the dishes, they spent an hour chatting in the living room.
Dim Dim decided to stay with Daisy and the others in their stable so it could have a sleepover with its friends too.
Alex had already placed the little bun’s basket there,so it could get a proper rest before their trip the next day.
An hour later, they finally decided to call it a night.
Fran invited Alex and Lavinia to her bedroom. This was the first time that Lavinia had gone inside the dwarf’s bedroom, and the first thing that caught her attention was the bed.
It was big enough to fit four people without any problems.
Her surprise stemmed from the thought of the bed being way too big for Fran to sleep on her own.
The dwarf explained that during their house renovation, her brother had prepared two beds.
This bed was a backup. Since it had nowhere to go, Fran decided to move it into her room instead. Her old bed was kept inside her storage ring, allowing her to swap them anytime she wanted to.
Since Alex and Lavinia were going to sleep with her tonight, a bigger bed would fit them perfectly.
Naturally, Alex laid at the center of the bed, with Fran on his right and Lavinia on his left.
Alex reached out for their hands and held them gently. The two ladies then hugged Alex’s arms, while the three of them chatted.
They talked about many things. Things that Alex had kept a secret from them.
He told them about a world that was different from Arcana. A place with advanced technology.
Lavinia could tell that Alex wasn’t lying, so she listened without saying anything.
As for Fran, she was very curious about the cellphone, and asked Alex if it was possible to replicate it in their world.
That way, she would be able to call Alex anytime even if they were far apart from each other.
"Maybe it’s possible to replicate it here," Alex replied. "We should ask Dim Dim next time if it’s possible."
"Why ask Dim Dim?" Lavinia inquired. She still had no idea that the little cute bun was actually the God that had created their world.
"Because if Dim Dim says it’s possible then it’s possible," Alex replied. "You’ll be surprised what Dim Dim can do when it gets serious."
Lavinia and Fran tried hard to imagine a serious Dim Dim. But all they could imagine was a cute bun trying to look serious.
Alex then told them about Noelle. A girl whom he had been indebted to while living in that world.
For the two ladies, Alex’s story was like a fantasy novel he conjured on the spot. However, since Fran had already seen her past with Alex, she believed that the young man was telling the truth.
The realization that they must have spent yet another lifetime apart saddened her.
Still, she felt happy because Alex had decided to open up and share this secret with her and Lavinia.
However, Alex didn’t mention anything about Endless Leveling Online, which taught him about the world of Arcana.
Since he was now living in this world, it meant that the game wasn’t a fantasy but a reality hidden from the masses.
Dim Dim had once told him that the God of Games, Eriol, had made ELO.
But Eriol had forbidden Dim Dim, Lily, and Cupid from seeing the game. Because what the God of Games had seen was a tragedy that his friends might not be able to accept.
For that reason, he had desperately searched for a solution.
And Alex was that solution.
The young man didn’t know whether his past had reached out to his future self so he could set things right.
While his past and present lives were still shrouded in mystery, he knew one thing with absolute certainty.
This world held endless possibilities.
And as long as even the smallest chance existed, he would do everything in his power to carve out a future where everyone could reach the happy ending they deserved.
