Chapter 630: The Golden Vitality Pill
Chapter 630: The Golden Vitality Pill
When Lady Dorothy woke up, she found herself no longer in pain. The persistent heaviness she had suffered all these years... It was gone.
Was she dreaming? She gave her arm a quick pinch, and the sharp pain told her she was indeed in reality.
She glanced at her window and noticed it was already night time. Her stomach then growled, reminding her to eat.
A moment later, she heard a small knock outside her door. Thinking her maid had brought dinner, she smiled and called out to her.
"Come in."
The door opened. But instead of her maid, a little white bun entered the room.
Dim Dim hopped on the table beside the bed and took out a few bamboo steamers. She wanted to treat Chuck’s mother to its special dim sum buffet.
"Dim Dim!" Dim Dim called out to Dorothy, telling her it was now time to eat.
The little bun even opened the steamers, letting the smell of food reach her.
"That smells delicious, Dim Dim," Lady Dorothy said with a smile. "I didn’t know you could cook!"
"Ahem!" Dim Dim raised its body proudly. Actually, it didn’t cook anything. It could simply summon the dim sum anytime, anywhere.
But it believed the misunderstanding would be cleared at a later time. The most important thing was to feed the patient something.
Lady Dorothy got up from her bed and slowly walked toward the table. Only after taking a few steps did she realize something.
For the first time in what felt like forever, she had walked without needing assistance.
Her maid usually needed to support her, for she lacked the strength to support her own body.
Wanting to test if she could really walk on her own, she paced back and forth a few times, testing the strength of her legs.
Dim Dim giggled, finding the lady’s pacing quite amusing.
"Dim Dim!"
"Oh... Sorry, Dim Dim. I’ll go there now."
Lady Dorothy sat down, and the Dim Sum God used cleaning magic to wash her hands so she could eat properly.
It even placed a plate beside her, adding a spoon and fork.
"Thank you, Dim Dim," Lady Dorothy gave the little bun’s cheek a few playful pokes. "Now, what do you recommend I eat first?"
"Dim!" Dim Dim pointed at the fried pork dumplings. It then put down a small saucer with a special sauce, where Lady Dorothy could dip the dumplings.
When she finally took a bite, her eyes widened in shock. It was the most delicious food she had eaten since she became bedridden.
Her disease dulled her senses, and she had mostly eaten to survive. Even the finest delicacy tasted like nothing. And now that she had regained her taste, just one bite reignited her long lost appetite.
"Wow, this fried pork dumplings is good," Lady Dorothy exclaimed. "Also this spring roll. I’ve never had anything like it."
"Kukuku!" Dim Dim laughed mischievously, summoning another bamboo steamer containing spring rolls.
Lady Dorothy giggled. "If I eat your food everyday, I might get fat, Dim Dim."
"Dim Dim!" Dim Dim shook its head and told her its food was calorie free!
"Calorie?" Lady Dorothy blinked. "What’s that?"
"Dim Dim!"
"Calorie is the thing that makes me fat?"
"Dim!"
"I see." Lady Dorothy nodded. "I learned something new today."
A moment later, they heard a knock on the door.
"It’s me, Mother."
"Come in Chuck. Let’s have dinner together."
When Chuck entered the room, he was surprised to see her mother already eating Dim Dim’s dim sum.
He couldn’t help but smile. It had been a while since they had eaten together, so he sat beside her. He was about to help himself to a spring roll when Dim Dim swatted his hand with a spoon.
"Dim Dim!" Dim Dim pointed the spoon to the young man as if it was some kind of weapon.
The little bun was telling Chuck to wash his hands before touching the food.
Lady Dorothy giggled after seeing her son reprimanded by the cute little bun. In the end, Chuck took out a bottle and placed a few drops of it on the palm of his hand.
He then rubbed his palms together before proceeding to rub the backs of his hand. The potion was similar to a hand sanitizer, which he always carried with him.
Seeing Chuck had cleaned his hands, Dim Dim nodded in satisfaction and no longer stopped him from eating.
The mother and son pair kept on praising Dim Dim. Of course, the food was genuinely good. Chuck hadn’t gotten tired of it despite having eaten Dim Dim’s dim sum countless times already.
But he also knew it liked being praised. So he didn’t hold back, making Dim Dim very happy.
"Mother, you look better right now," Chuck commented. "Your face is no longer as pale as before."
"You think so too?" Lady Dorothy replied. "Actually, after I took a nap, I no longer feel the numbing pain in my body. I even feel like I can even run right now."
"Don’t!"
"Dim Dim!"
"I’m just joking." Lady Dorothy gave the two an awkward look. She was just joking.
After finishing their meal, Dim Dim told Chuck and Lady Dorothy it would go and find Princess Xenia because they needed to talk about something important.
When the little bun left, Lady Dorothy looked at her son with a serious expression.
"Chuck, just what kind of creature is Dim Dim?" Lady Dorothy asked.
"Alex said it’s some kind of Nature Deity," Chuck answered. "It has the power to summon bamboo steamers filled with food, the ones earlier. It’s also very friendly."
Lady Dorothy didn’t answer right away because she didn’t know if she should say it or not.
Seeing her reaction, Chuck asked her if there was anything in her mind.
"Actually, Dim Dim fed me a golden pill after you left to meet your father," Lady Dorothy replied. "After that, I felt drowsy. When I woke up, I found myself brimming with energy."
"G-Golden Pill?" Chuck asked in a serious tone. "Is it really golden in color?"
"Yes." Lady Dorothy nodded. "I’m certain that it’s golden."
Chuck hurriedly took out a book from his storage ring and flipped some pages. He then stopped when he found the page he was looking for and showed it to his mother.
"Does the pill look like this?" Chuck asked.
"It does," Lady Dorothy replied. "What is this Golden Vitality Pill?"
"Mother..." Chuck reached out to hold her hand. "The Golden Vitality Pill is the cure for the Withering Disease."
Lady Dorothy blinked one then twice before her eyes widened in shock.
"W-What?!" Lady Dorothy looked at her son in disbelief. "Y-You mean that pill that Dim Dim fed me is the cure to my disease?!"
But instead of replying, Chuck hugged his mother tightly, and tears fell from his eyes.
He had been feeling anxious. He had been so worried. What if he didn’t get the cure soon? He knew his mother could only hold on for three more years.
The reason he agreed to become Princess Xenia’s fiance was to cure his mother. It was a deal with his father. The Duke had promised to help him collect the ingredients to concoct the Golden Vitality Pill.
Lady Dorothy also teared up and hugged her son tightly. Chuck never cried in front of people. He had learned how to endure the hardships in life earlier than most of his peers.
So, seeing him break down like this because she was finally cured, she couldn’t help but feel happy and grateful to Dim Dim, who was currently chatting with Princess Xenia and arranging Lady Dorothy’s transfer to the orphanage where Charles’ sisters were staying at.
The little bun believed that Chuck’s mother would be happy to be surrounded by children. After all, she must’ve yearned to take care of the young Chuck but couldn’t.
Naturally, Princess Xenia agreed. But she worried the Duke would disagree with their request to take Chuck’s mother away.
However, Alex decided to meddle and assure the princess he would ask someone to convince the Duke to let his sickly mistress go to recuperate.
The little bun didn’t want Chuck’s mother to stay at the Duke’s residence. It feared that if they found out she had recovered from her illness, the legal wife might harm Lady Dorothy.
After making their plans, they agreed that Princess Xenia would take Lady Dorothy back to the City of Harmonia first, then return to pick up Alex, Renard, and Chuck once she had properly settled at the orphanage.
That night, the Duke received an unexpected visitor, who told him that the princess would be taking Lady Dorothy with her to the City of Harmonia.
Of course, the Duke didn’t want her to go anywhere. Unfortunately, Lex was very persuasive.
Knowing that he couldn’t afford to offend the old man, the Duke reluctantly agreed on the condition that his mistress would take two maids with her to assist her daily life.
Lex of course agreed to this condition and left the Duke’s room with a satisfied smile on his face.
