Chapter 629: Not A Very Honorable Thing To Do

"So you’ve come here to explore the Dungeon of Beasts," Duke Marius said as they ate lunch together.

"Yes, Father," Chuck replied. "My friends wanted to check it out, so I decided to invite them."

"They certainly have more backbone than you, Chuck." Duke Marius eyed his son, who only lowered his head.

"As expected of a half-blood," the Duke’s legal wife, Lady Tremaine, commented. "You ought to just stay in the academy, find a decent girl to marry, and settle down somewhere after you graduate. By the way, how is my son, Caspian, doing?"

It took Princess Xenia and Mary a lot of effort to stay silent. They didn’t like it when others looked down on Chuck. However, they had a reputation to keep, so they could only watch from the side.

Fortunately, a certain someone dared to speak up. With gratitude in their hearts, the two ladies watched the show with interest.

"Oh, that little coward, Caspian?" Alex interjected. "I’ve been wondering how someone could be so pathetic. It seems to be hereditary.

"After I nearly demolished his club, he started acting like a frightened puppy, always running away as soon as he saw me. So cowardly. Is he really a noble? Compared to Chuck, he seems pretty garbage. You adopted him, didn’t you?"

"Y-You!" Lady Tremaine’s eyes widened in shock. This was the first time that she saw someone openly badmouth her son in front of her. "How dare you speak about my son in that manner?"

Alex smirked. "Looks like it’s about time I make Caspian’s life terrible in the academy. I do have a reputation there. It should be more than enough to send him to early graduation."

"Who are you?" Lady Tremaine asked angrily. "I’ve been wondering why you act so bold in front of me. Do you not realize I can easily make your life difficult? Don’t you fear for your parents’ lives? I can make them suffer, and it will be all your fault."

Alex couldn’t help but laugh after hearing the woman’s threat. He had been an orphan back on Earth. He knew she was referring to his parents in this world, but that was even funnier.

His father was the current Emperor of the Aetherion Empire. And what was the Aetherion Empire but the strongest empire on the continent? Not even the King of Avalon dared to offend him.

"Oh, I’d like to see you try." Alex grinned. "That way, you’ll realize your status as a Duke’s wife doesn’t matter in front of absolute power. You will just be one more head rolling off a guillotine."

Alex wasn’t lying.

The Emperor of the Aetherion Empire liked to chop off the heads of the people who threatened his rule.

He was the baddest, meanest emperor on the continent. So when Evangeline personally beheaded the emperor with a guillotine in her Dark Route, the playerbase rejoiced. He absolutely deserved it!

"You uneducated plebeian!’ Lady Tremaine stood up. "Darling, take this man to prison! Charge him with the crime of offending me!"

"Sit down, Tremaine," Duke Marius said coldly. "Stop making a scene. Are you not embarrassed to show this side of you to Her Highness?"

Lady Tremaine wasn’t stupid. If Alex were an ordinary person, her husband wouldn’t have hesitated to call the guards and send him to prison even if the princess was around.

Of course, Duke Marius would have eventually freed the young man because Princess Xenia was here. However, it would have taught the young man to think twice before offending nobles.

Her husband stopping her only meant one thing.

Alex was someone even he couldn’t offend.

Then and there, she knew she might have kicked an iron plate this time.

"I-I’m sorry, Your Highness." Lady Tremaine decided to apologize to Princess Xenia, unable to bring herself to grovel before Alex. "I am not feeling well, so I’ll go back to my room."

Princess Xenia nodded. "Do take care of yourself, Lady Tremaine. The weather has been a little cold lately, and it’s rather easy to get sick at this time of the year."

"I’ll do that, Your Highness." Lady Tremaine bade her goodbye and left without a second glance.

If only she knew that her husband had indeed planned to call the guards and have them drag Alex away! But before he could do it, he had felt a very strong killing intent coming from Lex, who was standing just behind the insolent young man.

Then and there, the Duke had realized the old man was actually stronger than him! In fact, it seemed too arrogant to even compare himself with the old man!

Duke Marius was a Rank 6 Knight, a powerhouse in his own right. But if someone’s killing intent was strong enough to send a chill up his spine, he knew that he must not even dare to offend that person.

There was no lack of historical cases of arrogant nobles who had accidentally messed with an absolute powerhouse.

Naturally, they had ended up very, very dead. Most of them had suffered slow and painful deaths. That was enough to remind any noble with a lick of sense that some people simply couldn’t be touched.

"A father should not belittle his son in front of others," Lex finally spoke. "Chuck is a good friend of my Young Master. Remember that, Your Grace, for I will only say it once. Don’t make a mistake you will regret for life."

"Understood," Duke Marius replied curtly.

He was still a noble, so he wouldn’t just allow himself to look defeated inside his own home.

However, the old man’s threat was enough for him to change his opinion of the young man who had become Chuck’s friend.

’With a powerhouse guarding him, I can understand why he dares to be so brazen in front of me,’ Duke Marius thought. ’Maybe he’s indeed a prince. I better ask my people to check this boy’s background.’

Princess Xenia and Mary could sense the subtle change in the Duke’s demeanor. However, they couldn’t put their finger on it, so they decided to continue eating. The sooner they finished, the sooner they could leave.

A few minutes later, lunch finally ended. The Duke bade his guests goodbye and left right away to talk to his wife. He wanted to tell her to interact with the guests more. Even if she didn’t like them, she couldn’t afford to insult them by refusing to even see them!

The Duke also stationed a few more guards around Lady Dorothy’s villa and gave them an absolute order.

"Do not let my wife and my other children enter the villa. All those who allow them to do so would be hanged!"

Niles personally made sure that this order would be carried out, but he was not disloyal to the Duke’s family. He decided to also go to the villa to prevent any misfortunes from befalling Lady Tremaine and her children.

Meanwhile, Alex and Lex took a short stroll around the residence to have a change of pace.

"Thank you, Uncle," Alex said as they walked side by side.

"Trying to silence people with a borrowed knife isn’t very honorable, Young Master." Lex sighed helplessly.

"I know." Alex nodded. "But they kept on humiliating Chuck in front of us. I couldn’t just sit by and do nothing."

"Dim!" Dim Dim nodded.

Even the good-tempered little bun had nearly lost its patience after seeing how the ducal family treated its friend. Truly disappointing!

Although Alex had fought back on Chuck’s behalf, Dim Dim still wasn’t satisfied.

If Chuck was treated that way, Lady Dorothy’s situation couldn’t be much better. For that reason, it planned to ask the Princess to take Chuck’s mother back with them to the City of Harmonia. With her status, she could easily pull it off.

Although Chuck’s mother had already been cured of her illness, her condition would still deteriorate if she stayed. The stress of living in the Rizz Household would just give her a new ailment.

Upon arriving at Lady Dorothy’s villa, they noticed that the number of guards had increased.

They also met Niles, who had been waiting for them. He said they could enter the Dungeon of Beasts tomorrow morning.

He even gave Alex a map. Adventurers had been hired to explore the dungeon, and their efforts had yielded six mapped floors.

Alex thanked Niles. Although this wasn’t the young man’s first time going to the Dungeon of Beasts, the map in the game might still be different from the one given to him by the Head Butler of the Rizz Family.
