Chapter 662: The Prophecy Of The Aetherion Empire [Part 1]
"I’m really lucky you came to rescue me, Dim Dim. You, too, Sir Luthor," Alex said as he patted the little bun that was perched on top of his head.
"Ehehe~"
The little bun looked very happy about its head being patted by Alex.
"Don’t worry about it," Luthor replied. "I sensed Nero’s presence somewhere in the city, and I just happened to pass by Dim Dim along the way. Since he was also looking for you, we decided to come look for you together."
"Seriously, I might have been a goner if both of you didn’t arrive on time." Alex sighed. "That Vampire Lord means serious business."
"I think he was just teasing you earlier," Luthor commented. "We had an agreement in the past. He knew I would hunt him if he dared to lay his hands on you again. I doubt that he would seal your memory a second time."
"Agreement?" Alex blinked. "What agreement?"
Luthor hesitated if he should tell Alex the truth or not. However, since the young man was already of age, he also deserved to know the truth. After all, it concerned his life.
"Follow me," Luthor said as soon as they entered the gate of the academy.
The old man brought Alex to the small cottage where he was staying in the academy. It was a very cozy home, but it was only big enough to accommodate a single person.
"Do you want something to drink?" Luthor asked.
"Just water please," Alex replied.
"How about you, Dim Dim?" Luthor looked at the little bun.
"Dim!"
"Water as well? Okay."
After placing two glasses on the small table in front of them, Luthor then sat on a chair facing Alex.
"What I am about to tell you is something that happened when you were still young," Luthor said calmly. "Your Highness, do you already know your full name?"
"You mean my name that isn’t Alex Stratos, right?" Alex asked.
"Yes."
"Aetherius Alexian Vademont, right?"
"That’s right." Luthor nodded. "You are a prince of the Aetherion Empire, the strongest empire in this continent. However, your birth is one filled with controversy."
Alex quieted down because he had long wished to listen about his past. He often wondered if Luthor would answer his questions if he asked. But since he was enjoying his current life, he kept putting it off. He thought that maybe it was fine to not know about his past. At least not yet.
Though that didn’t mean he wasn’t curious about it.
"The current king of the Aetherion Empire is not your father. Luthor sighed. "Your father was actually the crown prince. However, before he could take over the throne, he died because of an accident."
"An accident?" Alex frowned. "Is it the type of accident that isn’t really an accident?"
"That’s right." Luthor nodded. "The royal family has a long history of unforeseen accidents. As you know, heirs discreetly battle for the succession rights. Unfortunately, your father was a kind-hearted person, and the good ones tend to die young."
Alex didn’t know how to feel about his father, especially since he couldn’t remember him.
"Your father died before you were even born," Luthor continued his story. "After his death, your mother was so heartbroken that she died shortly after you were born... or so the story goes. Though, I doubt that is what really happened."
Alex’s face became solemn after hearing this piece of information. Although he didn’t remember his parents, hearing that they met their untimely deaths in this manner didn’t sit well with him.
"You were born under the eclipse of two suns." Luthor shook his head helplessly. "You must be curious how that can happen when we have only one sun in the sky? Yet, according to some ancient texts, somewhere out there, a world exactly like our own world exists. They call it Reverse Arcana.
"During a specific time of the year, when the solar eclipse of this world comes to pass, not a single child is supposed to be born... and yet, you were."
When Alex heard the term ’Reverse Arcana’, he and Dim Dim glanced at each other. There was indeed a world similar to their own, and they had also met some of the denizens that lived in that world.
"There is a prophecy that only those who held the Vademont Bloodline are aware of," Luthor continued his tale.
"Beneath the eclipse of two suns,
The marked child is born.
The trinity will test him,
The World, The Death, and The Devil."
"Cast out by fate, he will strive to survive.
Each fall will forge him. Each death will sharpen him.
And when the eclipse of two suns returns...
The world will not kneel in reverence.
But in fear of what stands above it."
Alex frowned because he couldn’t remember any prophecy in the game that sounded like this. Of course, ELO was a game that had several prophecies.
Most of them spoke about the Heroes and Heroines who would protect the world from danger.
Renard, Prince Edward, and Cassian represented the Heroes.
On the other hand, Nessia, Aeris, and Evangeline represented the Heroines.
Among the six main characters, only Evangeline had a storyline that overlapped with the Aetherion Empire, which she had razed to the ground in order to avenge her beloved who had died when she was still young.
Now that Alex knew who that person was, he couldn’t help but think that there was more to Evangeline’s Revenge Route, which also led to that Bad Ending.
Though, just as he was trying to recall what exactly happened in Evangeline’s route, he felt that his memories were failing him.
The only thing he could vividly remember was Evangeline walking the streets of the capital city of Aetherion as it burned under the starry sky.
The events that led to this ending was like a fleeting cloud that escaped Alex’s grasp while he tried to recall what happened in that particular route.
At first, he felt confused. But as he continued to try recalling these events, Alex discovered something horrifying.
He was starting to forget his past life. It was as if someone was deleting the memories he was trying to grasp from inside of his head!
This thought made his face turn pale, but Luthor only thought that the young man was just surprised after hearing the prophecy about the day of his birth.
The old Guardian wasn’t aware that at this very moment, Alex’s memories about anything related to the Aetherion Empire was slowly being erased inside his head. To Alex, it was as if someone was tampering with his memories in real time.
Left with no choice, Alex forced himself to stop thinking about the Aetherion Empire, as well as Evangeline’s route.
He was afraid that if this continued, he might also forget Evangeline, who loved him very much.
