Chapter 675: I Came Here To Keep My Promise [Part 1]
Alex stared at the ceiling of his room while thinking about the message Aeris had passed onto Nessia.
"She said, ’I’ll give you what you want’."
Those were the words Nessia had told him earlier in the clubroom. But Alex remembered what he had told the elven princess clearly. It was a condition he believed she would never accept.
He asked her to give him her body, and of course, he made sure there would not be any misunderstandings when he said that.
As the Perfect Heroine of ELO, it was impossible for Aeris to misunderstand.
She even called him a "vile man" because of it before storming off in anger.
’She agreed?’ Alex thought before shaking his head. ’Impossible.’
But on the off chance that she was serious, what would Alex do?
Aeris was a princess of Faelarun. If he really did THAT to her, he would definitely face the wrath of a kingdom unless he took responsibility for it.
Responsibilities aside... Alex believed it was impossible for him and Aeris to become lovers.
After all, their values clashed. Also, having the "perfect girlfriend" would definitely make him feel anxious.
This was why he preferred Lapiz over her sister. Just like the younger princess, he was also full of flaws that he had learned to accept.
’There’s no use worrying about this.’ Alex pinched the bridge of his nose. ’What will come will come. I’ll just sleep it off for now.’
The next day...
Alex decided to go to class instead of strolling around the academy with nothing to do.
Everyone was surprised to see him and even asked if it was fine for him to skip training for the upcoming tournament.
Alex assured everyone that he was in peak condition and that he would show them his overwhelming talents during the competition.
"The Kingdom of Faelarun was founded by their first King, Aetherion Sylvarin," Francesca, who was currently the History Professor, said with a smile. "During this time, the elves ushered what they called a Golden Era that lasted for five hundred years."
The Dryad paused before continuing her story-telling.
"The elves thought they could finally rise above the other races. But when the time to expand their domain was being proposed, Aetherion vanished without a trace.
"Many believed he had been against the expansion, while others thought that the injuries he received while fighting against the Demons that once dominated the land had finally taken his life.
"To this day, no one knows what had truly happened to their High King, including the one who stepped up during his absence. While many despaired at the sudden disappearance of their one true King, the Saintess of the World Tree foretold a prophecy.
"She said that Aetherion would return on the day of the eclipse of two suns. And when he does, the Elves will rise once more, reclaiming the glory they once lost."
Suddenly, a hand shot up in the air.
"Professor, there is something I noticed in your tale," Nessia said calmly. "I can’t help but think that the name of the first High King of the Elves, Aetherion, is also similar to the Aetherion Empire. Is this just a coincidence?"
"Good question, Nessia." Francesca nodded with satisfaction. "Actually, some say the founder of the Aetherion Empire was none other than Aetherion himself, simply disguised as a human after his disappearance.
"Then, as if to validate this theory, the next King of the Aetherion Empire was a Half-Elf. But perhaps their elven blood has become diluted since the next generation of King that sat on the throne was a human.
"Even so, the Aetherians didn’t seem to mind if the Elven Kingdoms thought that their founding king was their first High King. They neither denied nor confirmed it, which frustrated the elven historians at that time."
Nessia agreed with the Professor. If Aetherion was indeed the founder of the Aetherion Empire, then things would have made sense.
It was the strongest empire in the continent, and no kingdom came close to its national power.
Fortunately, they weren’t warmongers and didn’t make any move to expand their territories by waging war against their neighbors.
Alex inexplicably felt uncomfortable as he listened to this topic. He didn’t know why that was the case, but he just felt that he shouldn’t be there right now.
Suddenly, the bell rang, which meant that their History Class was over.
After bidding goodbye to his friends, Alex decided not to head to the next class and instead walked aimlessly without a destination in mind.
It was then that he came face to face with Aeris, who saw him leave the academy building, only to follow behind him.
However, she wasn’t alone.
Standing beside her was Lapiz, whose face had a tinge of red. The young lady would look at Alex before lowering her head to look at the ground.
She would repeat this several times until her face turned a shade redder.
It was then when Alex had a bad premonition.
"I came here to keep my promise," Aeris said. "Give me the information I want. In exchange, I will give you my body as you requested."
Alex screamed internally because his worst fears came to life.
It seemed that Aeris had thought deeply about this matter, so she made sure to drag Lapiz with her so her younger sister would see just how "vile" Alex really was.
Aeris had repeatedly warned her sister not to get too close to Alex because he couldn’t be trusted!
And now, using their agreement as proof, she dragged her sister with her so that she would finally see the young man’s true colors.
’Well played, Aeris,’ Alex reluctantly acknowledged that the Princess’ counter-attack was indeed perfect. By putting him on the spot, he would either deny the agreement, which would make Aeris feel smug.
Or he could affirm it, which would cause irreversible damage to Lapiz’s impression of him!
While his brain was working on overdrive on how to get out of this mess, one of his four Queens spoke timidly.
"Is it true?" Lapiz asked. "Did you really ask my sister to exchange her body for information about Hy-Brasil?"
An internal battle immediately commenced inside Alex’s head which lasted for a few brief seconds.
In the end, Alex decided to use the third option out of desperation!
