Chapter 759: Signs Of Trouble [Part 1]

When Alex arrived in the dining room, he almost did a double-take after seeing something that he didn’t expect to see.

Astrea was eating alone, with three plates of pancakes in front of her.

That might not seem a lot at first, but when he saw that each plate had at least a dozen pancakes stacked on top of each one, he started to question how she could eat so many without worrying about maintaining her sexy figure.

“What?” Astrea asked with narrowed eyes. “I’m not sharing this with you.”

“Don’t worry,” Alex replied before sitting on the chair across from her. “I’m not a fan of pancakes.”

“What will you have then, Your Majesty?” Elaris asked.

“A sandwich will do, Elaris,” Alex answered.

The Head Maid bowed. “Understood.”

The maids who were waiting for her orders already knew what to do as they headed toward the kitchen to prepare their King’s breakfast.

Since he had nothing else to do, Alex decided to observe the young lady, who was eating her pancakes as if it were the most delicious thing in the world.

Astrea was aware that Alex was observing her, but it didn’t affect her appetite. If anything, she simply continued to eat everything on her plate. Though after finishing two plates, she eyed Alex and asked him a question.

“So did you have fun last night?” Astrea asked in a teasing tone. “Elaris told me that you spent the night with your concubines.”

For a brief moment, Alex thought that he heard a hint of annoyance in her tone. But since Astrea was smiling, he thought that he might have just imagined it.

The young lady waited for Alex to answer, but the young man kept his lips shut. He had already learned from experience that talking about lovemaking in front of another woman would only make him look like he was boasting.

“Che~” Astrea scoffed after realizing that Alex had no intention of answering her question.

With that, she stabbed her pancakes with a vengeance, imagining that she was stabbing Alex for the crime of infidelity.

“Um, that pancake is innocent, you know?” Alex couldn’t help but notice that Astrea seemed to be venting her frustration on her food.

“I know,” Astrea replied.

“Then why?”

“Because it has your name on it.”

Alex knew that saying more would just make things more complicated, so he no longer made any comment and observed the beautiful lady who was throwing a tantrum.

When his sandwiches finally arrived, Alex ate silently.

He didn’t have time to argue with Astrea. Once he was done, he still needed to coordinate with the captain of the guards about the order that he had passed to them last night.

Alex asked them to gather news about any trouble that was within and beyond the borders of Faelarun.

It didn’t matter if it was a minor issue or not. He would decide upon reading the documents that were presented to him.

After Alex finished his breakfast, he left silently, which made Elaris think that he was quarreling with his Queen.

For this reason, she decided to have a talk with Astrea, telling her that a husband and wife should talk things out, so that their relationship would endure the test of time.

Astrea didn’t know how to reply to Elaris’ advice, so she just nodded in return and made her escape as quickly as possible.

Two hours later, Alex was reading through the reports stacked in his office desk, making sure to look for hints on what he should be doing to clear the Challenge of the Hermit.

It was then that he came across a particular piece of information that made him frown.

“Sightings of monsters have increased during the past few days,” Alex muttered. “They are seen in the south of the kingdom. According to the scouts, the enemies seem to be Ant Monsters.”

The moment he read the part about Ant Monsters, the image of his friend, Charles, flashed in his mind.

Among Alex’s circle of friends, he was the only one who could summon Ant Monsters to do his bidding, so he had a feeling that Charles might be in the south of the Kingdom of Faelarun.

‘I should head south to confirm this report,’ Alex thought as he stood up to inform the guards that he would head out for a bit.

A few minutes later, he arrived outside the castle, only to be stopped by his Royal Guards.

“Your Majesty, you should bring some escorts with you,” the captain of the Royal Guards pleaded. “Although I believe you will not be in danger, letting you travel alone is out of the question.”

“I don’t mind if a few guards accompany me,” Alex replied. “However, I will leave them behind if they can’t keep up with me.”

The Royal Guards looked at their King as if they were being challenged.

The captain even smiled faintly at those words, looking very confident that his King wouldn’t have any complaints later.

“Very well, Your Majesty.” The Captain bowed respectfully. “Please follow us to the stables, then. The Hippogriffs are ready to take flight at any time.”

“Hippogriffs?” Alex had completely forgotten that the Royal Guards of the Kingdom of Faelarun rode on hippogriffs whenever they traveled outside the castle walls.

Originally, Alex planned to fly ‌south using his shield. Though riding on a hippogriff wasn’t a bad idea either.

Soon, dozens of hippogriffs soared through the sky above the Kingdom of Faelarun.

The one at the lead was the captain of the Royal Guards.

Alex didn’t know where the scouts had found sightings of the Ant Monsters, so he asked the captain to guide him to that location.

A few hours later, something caught Alex’s eye.

A fireball exploded in the distance, which made him and the guards all look in its direction.

Then, all of a sudden, someone rose from the trees while being chased by a Winged Tiger.

It was a lady with long brown hair, her robe in tatters.

Her face was pale from exhaustion, but Alex could recognize her in an instant.

“Nessia!” Alex shouted as he charged toward the Winged Tiger as dozens of shields flew toward it like missiles.

Seeing that help had finally arrived, Nessia was finally able to sigh in relief and fainted as soon as Alex grabbed hold of her.

She had been traveling non-stop for half a day, and she had finally reached her limit.

Despite the countless number of monsters she had faced along the way, she persevered. As long as she didn’t lose hope, she believed she would soon find someone who would help her save her lover from the darkness that had taken over his soul.
