Chapter 760: Signs Of Trouble [Part 2]
Chapter 760: Signs Of Trouble [Part 2]
Within moments, the Winged Tiger was beaten black and blue by the members of the Royal Guards.
Alex thought that it would be a waste to kill this rare monster, so he decided to have it subjugated and brought back to the palace. If it could be tamed, they would gain a new ally.
Though since he still planned to head south to investigate, he ordered a few of his men to return to the palace with the Winged Tiger, leaving the majority of the Royal Guards to guard him.
“Ngh…”
Nessia was groaning in her sleep, while the healers were tending to her injuries.
Alex didn’t know what kind of suffering she had endured along the way. But now that they had been reunited, he would make sure that Nessia wouldn’t get hurt any longer.
An hour later, the young lady finally regained consciousness.
“Are you feeling fine, Nessia?” Alex asked.
“Alex, is that really you?” Nessia asked.
Alex looked exactly like the young man she knew. He had the ears of an elf now and looked like he had aged into his mid-twenties, but the essence unique to Alex was still there.
“Human, please don’t refer to His Majesty in such a casual manner,” the guard captain, who went by the name Damian, said sternly. “Also, his name is not Alex. It is King Aetherion Sylvarin. Remember it, and remember it well!”
Nessia glanced at the Guard Captain in response before shifting her attention back to Alex, who gave her a wry smile.
“Forgive me, Your Majesty,” Nessia said calmly. “I might have mistaken you for someone else.”
Of course, Nessia hadn’t made a mistake. She was smart, and she had known from the start that they were in the world of The Hermit. Something similar had already happened to her in the past, so she quickly adapted to the situation.
“Can you tell me what happened to you?” Alex asked.
Hearing Alex’s question reminded Nessia of the reason she had headed north.
“Alex, you have to help me.” Nessia had forgotten to refer to her friend as Your Majesty, too occupied by the anxiety brimming in her heart. “Charles… Charles lost control of his body.”
“Is it the Synchronization?” Alex’s expression turned solemn as he asked this question.
“Yes.” Nessia nodded. “His Synchronization Rate was in the nineties when I met him. He asked me to escape while he still had control. By now, I think he has already been completely taken over by the persona that once lived in this world.”
“Do you remember what name he calls himself?” Alex inquired. He believed this might be the clue he was looking for.
“Yes, it’s Ganelon,” Nessia answered. “Ganelon Sylvarin… if I remember correctly.”
At the mention of the name, Damian and the other Royal Guards stiffened.
The guard captain even forgot to chastise Nessia for talking casually to their king after hearing Ganelon’s name.
“Are you sure that you saw Lord Ganelon?” Damian asked in a solemn tone.
Just as Alex was about to ask Damian who Ganelon was, an influx of information flooded his brain, which made him wince from the headache it brought.
When the pain subsided, Alex finally processed the identity of Ganelon. However, this discovery also shocked him to the core.
That was because Ganelon was Aetherion’s older brother.
The first in line to the throne of the Kingdom of Faelarun.
However, he was exiled from the kingdom after it was discovered that he had conspired with the Demon Lord who had tried to conquer this land.
Ganelon said it was the only way to save their kingdom. He was convinced that no one could stop the Demon Lord from world domination.
In fact, he even became one of the Demon’s Generals, leading an army of monsters to do his bidding.
Naturally, the Elves defied his actions and branded him as a traitor.
During the final war against the Demon King, Ganelon fled when his monster army was about to be annihilated.
No one knew where he went after he escaped from the battlefield.
There were rumors that the Demon Lord had personally killed him for abandoning his post. However, since his body was never found, his death was only mere speculation.
Now that his name was being brought back up again, it made the Royal Guards feel anxious.
If not for his betrayal, Ganelon would have been the Elven King, not Aetherion.
“We have received reports that there is a disturbance on the border of the kingdom,” Alex said. “The monster activity in the south has increased according to the scout. If what you say is true, then Char—I mean, Ganelon should be behind this, right?”
Nessia nodded. “Before I left him, he was already in command of hundreds of winged ants. If not for Charles ordering them to stand down, I might have already been bitten to death.”
If that were to really happen, then it would become a true tragedy. Charles would be heartbroken in more ways than one if he personally witnessed his lover being torn apart by the creatures under his command.
Fortunately, he was still able to hold onto his reason long enough for Nessia to make her escape.
“You did well, Nessia,” Alex stated. “Don’t worry. We will save Charles. I promise.”
“I-I will take you to him!” Nessia said with determination. “I know the general direction of his hunting grounds.”
“Good.” Alex nodded. “Then let’s go and fin—”
“Not so fast, Your Majesty,” Damian interjected before Alex could even finish his sentence. “If what this lady said is true, then Lord Ganelon is in command of a very formidable force. I am afraid our numbers aren’t enough to face him right now.”
The weakest Winged Ant was a Rank 3 Monster. If there were hundreds of them, then there should be stronger variants within the swarm.
Alex would have been fine if he had “Grandma Agnes’ Wooden Sandals”.
Unfortunately, he had left this Insect Slayer weapon to Dim Dim, who had mastered the arts of wielding La Chancla.
Speaking of Dim Dim, Alex had never seen the little bun since he arrived in this world. He had no way to locate it either.
If it was by his side, then he wouldn’t have to fear the overwhelming number of Winged Ants that were under Charles’ command.
With this piece of information, Alex was forced to choose between two options.
The first one was to return to the palace and gather a sizable force that could subjugate hundreds of monsters.
While the second one was to give an order to search for a little bun, who might be lost somewhere within the vast Kingdom of Faelarun.
