Chapter 801: You Can’t Protect Anyone With A Shield [Part 2]

“”Alex!””

Efa and Himea moved as one to catch the falling young man, who had lost consciousness after crashing against the barrier of the city.

While this was happening, Reverse Alex made his move to attack Charles, his blazing sword already poised to pierce through his heart.

Despite his impending doom, the young man lay on the ground, unmoving. He had also lost consciousness, and Reverse Alex had no plans to let him be.

“Die!” Reverse Alex descended from the sky like a meteor, creating a massive explosion as his sword stabbed his target.

The ground shook, followed by a blazing inferno that spread outward.

The barrier protecting the city groaned as the flames washed over its surface like a raging tide. Still, it held on, preventing the flames from destroying parts of the city.

When the flames finally receded, everyone was able to see the scope of destruction left behind by Reverse Alex’s attack.

Before them, a crater hundreds of meters wide appeared the moment the black smoke dispersed from the surroundings.

And at its center was Reverse Alex, with his sword firmly embedded in the ground.

A moment later, a mournful scream rang through the surroundings. Nessia looked at the crater in horror, for her lover was nowhere in sight.

“Charles…no!” Nessia shouted. “Chaaaaaarles!”

Hearing that, Reverse Alex stood and glanced in Nessia’s direction. Seeing her cry and calling out to her lover irritated him.

But he was more infuriated by the sight of that supposedly dead man standing several meters away from him.

At this moment, the black armor that covered Charles’ upper body had been completely destroyed, exposing his bare skin.

Nessia failed to see him earlier, her sight blocked by the black smoke oozing from the ground.

Now that she knew her lover was still alive, a relieved whimper escaped her lips. She then covered it with both hands as the tears in her eyes fell like rain.

“Who are you?” Reverse Alex asked the man before him. “You feel different.”

Instead of answering, Charles looked at his surroundings—the destroyed forests of his hometown, as well as the dimming barrier that protected Everdawn City.

His gaze then landed on Alex, who was being held by Efa and Himea. His gaze lingered in his direction for a few seconds before finally shifting his attention back to Reverse Alex, whose killing intent was still overflowing from his body.

“I don’t know why my idiotic brother is allowing you to have your way,” Charles said coldly. “Then again, I’m not interested in the answer either. I just want to do one thing and one thing only.”

“And that is?” Reverse Alex asked.

“This.” In that instant, Charles punched out in front of him. A split second later, Reverse Alex was sent flying.

The latter managed to regain balance mid-air, allowing him to land on the ground with both feet, skidding for several meters before coming to a complete stop.

A frown appeared on his face as he looked at his opponent.

That was because Charles didn’t move from where he stood.

All he did was punch the air. Yet, for reasons unknown, that punch reached him, hitting his chest with the force of a speeding truck.

Reverse Alex looked calm on the surface, but deep inside, he was trying to understand what just happened.

As if reading his thoughts, Charles raised his fist once more.

“Still don’t know what happened?” Charles asked coldly. “Here. Have one more.”

The moment those words left his lips, Charles punched out once more.

Reverse Alex hurriedly dodged to the side, but a second later, he was once again sent flying, crashing against several trees in the distance.

Reverse Chuck, Reverse Vaan, and the rest of the fighters from Reverse Arcana looked at this scene in shock.

They also paid close attention to what was happening. Yet, even they struggled to understand what just transpired before them.

Only Reverse Latifa managed to figure out what kind of attack Charles had used against her lover.

“He has the power to control space!” Reverse Latifa shouted. “Be careful, Alex!”

Charles gave Reverse Latifa a side-long glance before shifting his attention back to Reverse Alex, who had stood up once more.

“You were saying earlier that a shield cannot protect anyone,” Charles said calmly. “But it seems that you need one if you are going to fight against me.”

Reverse Alex wiped the blood seeping from the corner of his mouth. For the first time ever since he arrived in this world, there was a trace of seriousness in his eyes.

His previous attacks had been enough to overwhelm almost anyone.

Yet this man had stopped his attack with a single punch.

Worse, Reverse Latifa had already figured out the reason.

Space manipulation.

Reverse Alex narrowed his eyes at the thought. He had fought countless powerful opponents throughout his existence, but there was something strange about Charles’ ability.

To him, it wasn’t just that he could manipulate space.

If anything, it felt more like he could make the space between himself and his target cease to exist.

That was why his punches could reach an opponent without physically traveling the distance between them.

It was a troublesome ability.

But not impossible to overcome.

“Shield?” Reverse Alex slowly raised his blazing sword. Then, a sinister smile appeared on his face. “I don’t need a shield.”

Soon, flames began to erupt from his body.

The surrounding trees immediately caught fire, while the ground beneath his feet melted from the intense heat.

“I just need enough power to destroy everything between us,” Reverse Alex declared.

The flames surrounding him suddenly condensed.

They no longer spread outward, but gathered along the blade of his sword.

With that, the blazing weapon began to change.

Its flames gradually became darker.

The blue flames made way for black flames, giving Reverse Alex a sinister presence.

“I’d like to see you try.” Charles sneered in return.

“Before I kill you, tell me your name,” Reverse Alex said. “So that I know the name of the person who forced me to get serious.”

“Ganelon,” Ganelon replied. “That is the name of the person who will teach you your place in this world.”

The two stared at each other for a few more seconds before both took a step forward.

Space distorted and flames erupted at the same time.

A moment later, a thunderous explosion that made the earth tremble spread in every direction.

A ring of black flames collided against a transparent ripple in space, creating a shockwave that flattened everything within a kilometer.

The remaining trees were uprooted.

Boulders were pulverized into dust.

Even Everdawn City’s barrier rippled violently from the collision, seeming as if it would collapse at any moment.

Those who couldn’t hold their ground were blown away, while those who managed to remain were forced to retreat on their own because a massive swirling tornado made up of black flames had materialized before them.

This tornado threatened to devour everything in its surroundings, showing the scale of devastation that the two fighters had unleashed upon the world.
