Chapter 2211: A Talk With The Moonlight Dragon Mother

"I was wrong..." Midga muttered. "Nobody had ever confronted me like you did... your words are like magic, young king... You’ve won my power. You deserve it for opening my eyes to the truth... I came to realize I was living a life filled with bitterness because I regretted not spending more time with those I cared for... I once protected an entire kingdom in Midgard. I was their Queen... millions of people I loved so deeply."

"And yet, as the years passed, my friends died one by one... their children replaced them, but even then, some had no children of their own, and new people emerged... I tried my best to love them, to forge connections, but as time wore on, they were all gone. I realized time was truly cruel. But I still... remember them so fondly, my people... and even now, though that kingdom is long gone, their descendants live throughout Midgard... I cannot deny them their joy... I see why Celene does what she does. She lives in the present and does not dwell on what may come, however soon it may be."

"It’s important to care for the world and its future... but not so much that you deny yourself the present," Drake said. "You’re wise, Midga. I knew you would understand."

"I thank you, young king..." Midga said. "It happened so quickly, how you convinced me... your words are truly magic, a divine power. I am amazed. Perhaps... perhaps this was all I needed? To speak openly about what I felt... oh, how foolish I’ve been..."

"You weren’t foolish. You were simply depressed," Drake said. "I’ve gone through the same myself... your family here loves you dearly, and like you, they will endure as long as this Realm stands. Love them too, Midga, cherish them as if every day were their last. Only by living like mortals can we truly appreciate our longevity and the gift it is."

"There," Midga said, touching Drake’s head with her tail. "Take it."

"Thank you..." Drake said. "And about Celene... she’s doing fine. She’s caring for several orphaned children she found on the streets. She raises and loves them as a mother would."

"I see..." Midga sighed, gazing downward. "I wonder if she’ll ever forgive me..."

"I’ll tell her you’ve changed your mind," Drake said with a smile. "Maybe she’ll visit one day... be kind to her. She’s a truly good person."

"I know... I know..." Midga nodded, her smile faint but warm. "Thank you..."

Drake’s consciousness, momentarily dispersed, fully returned to the body he had crafted to meet Celene, who still awaited him.

Children were climbing his body, poking his face with their fingers, testing how long it would take him to stir.

"Ah! Yeah, right, I’m awake. Sorry for being away so long. How much time has passed?" Drake asked.

"Not much, just ten minutes or so," Celene said. "W-What happened? Did you meet her? I felt your power rising out of nowhere..."

"Yeah, it went well," Drake nodded. "I spoke with your grandmother... and I think it worked. She has changed her mind."

"Wait, what? How... you changed her mind?!" Celene asked, confused.

"It wasn’t easy, but I confronted her," Drake said. "I pointed out the flaws in her ideals and shared other insights... Turns out, she once loved mortals deeply too. She even oversaw her own kingdom but losing them all made her bitter. To avoid losing those she loved again, she closed her heart and passed those teachings to her children and grandchildren... but they were clearly misguided."

"D-Drake..." Celene was shaken. "You really told her all of that? And she told you about that too?"

"Indeed," Drake said, nodding. "It wasn’t easy, but I’m glad we reached an understanding."

"I’m... speechless..." Celene said. "I really don’t know what to say other than... impressive? You’re really amazing... to think you would convince her of all people..."

"Sometimes talking things out is all it takes, Celene," Drake said. "I know you were afraid to do that, and I can’t blame you... but I’ll never shy away from challenging someone’s ideals if I believe they’re wrong. And I think you shouldn’t either... be brave. You’re already very strong."

"T-Thanks..." Celene muttered, blushing slightly, flattered. "If only I could have met you earlier..."

"Hm?" Drake didn’t grasp her meaning. "Why?"

"A-Ah!" she blushed, covering her face. "N-Nothing... please don’t mind what I said!"

"Okay," Drake laughed, finding her endearing when she shed her seriousness. "Anyway, I suppose I can stay here a bit longer. My true body is at the dwarven castle with my family and friends. We’re investigating some human refugees from the distortions in the sky. Apparently, they fled a zombie-ridden city."

"Y-Your true body?" Celene asked, puzzled. "Am I talking with some illusion then?"

"No, this is an extension of my body," Drake said. "I can split off fragments and reshape them into my true form. They aren’t clones since they share the same mind and soul."

"Interesting... your magic and abilities never cease to amaze me," Celene said, nodding. "And you mentioned the distortions in the sky? What’s that about?"

"Indeed, I’m here to fix them..." Drake said. "Their occurrence is partially my fault..."

"Eh?!" Celene gasped.
