Chapter 2269: Battle Against The Last Fragments Of Ragnarok
-----
(A few minutes ago...)
While Drake confronted Sangre, Surtr and Emerald battled two Chaos Dragon Fragments that Sangre had enslaved and transformed into enhanced Vampiric Chaos Dragons. These were formidable adversaries, compelling Surtr and Emerald to approach the fight with greater seriousness to secure victory.
"ROOOAAARRR!"
The bulkier of the two Chaos Dragons, encased in an exceptionally hard shell, generated a powerful Domain Barrier around itself, composed primarily of twisted chaotic energies. This barrier nullified numerous abilities and techniques and weakened magic of nearly every element, forcing Surtr to strategize more carefully to devise an effective counter.
"GRYSHAAAA!"
The more agile and nimble Chaos Dragon moved with astonishing speed, darting from one location to another and relentlessly attempting to inject Emerald with deadly miasmic venom that could liquefy his internal organs within a minute. Consequently, Emerald could not afford to be complacent and unleashed both his Celestial Winds and his Demonic Alter-Ego, a power born from serving as the vessel for a Legion, an amalgamation of thousands of demon souls.
Though each dragon had forged a distinct path, Surtr and Emerald were not only friends but also disciples of Drake.
"Alright, let’s do this!"
Surtr roared, charging at the bulky Chaos Dragon. Its impervious shell shattered his claws as he attempted to pierce it, his eyes widening as the beast retaliated, swiftly retreating into its shell and spinning toward him with tremendous force.
CRAAASH!
"Ugghhhh?!"
Surtr felt the beast’s overwhelming power. Its chaotic miasmic aura relentlessly sapped his strength, cursing his body and soul, extinguishing his flames, and leaving him feeling increasingly colder.
"ROOAARR!"
The creature opened its jaws, poised to bite his neck, but Surtr grinned, touching the beast’s shell and channeling his powers. A large section of the shell cracked and broke off, swiftly reshaping into a massive black spear.
"GRYAARR?!"
The beast roared in disbelief as Surtr thrust the spear, crafted from its own shell, into its open jaws before the flame dragon kicked him away.
CLASH!
"Haaa... Damn it, he almost got me!" Surtr exclaimed. "That thing can nullify my power somehow?! Or... well, not really. At least not fully... there must be a limit. That thing can’t possibly be that strong, or we could use it to defeat everyone and end this, right? So..."
"GROOOAARRR!"
As the Chaos Dragon roared and charged back toward Surtr, spinning like a giant black sphere studded with sharp spikes, Surtr swiftly inspected his sword, infusing it with his flames, blood, and scales, transforming it into an enormous crimson and gold metal baseball bat.
"Come at me!"
CLAAANK!
At the precise moment, he struck the Chaos Dragon with his massive bat, sending the beast soaring upward at lightning speed. He briefly sensed its power, but its range was remarkably short and failed to affect him this time.
"I see, it’s short, right? Okay, I get it now."
Surtr wasted no time, leaping into the skies and flapping his massive wings, ascending rapidly while leaving a trail of flames.
The Chaos Dragon detected him, spinning downward before rushing back toward him. This time, to avoid being repelled, it manipulated its aura.
FLUOSH!
The aura transformed into thousands of dragon heads formed from chaotic and blood energies, each opening its jaws and firing hundreds of element-nullifying beams.
"You’re not as dumb a beast as I thought. That’s quite clever."
Surtr nodded, charging forward and deftly dodging each beam. When evasion was impossible, he swiftly summoned large spheres of concentrated Origin Flames and launched them toward the beams, causing premature explosions.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Surtr reached the Chaos Dragon as it charged toward him. The creature halted its spin in midair, opened its jaws, and unleashed a devastating breath attack of chaotic flames.
However, Surtr nimbly adjusted his trajectory with his wings, climbing higher to evade the beam, which followed a second later.
TRUUUM!
The beam surged upward, pursuing him.
Yet Surtr promptly summoned a shield crafted from Tiamat’s scales, using it to fully deflect the beam and harnessing the impact’s force to propel himself toward the beast, poised to land on it.
The beast’s aura expanded, attempting to weaken Surtr as before and catch him off guard.
Surtr, however, grinned. His baseball bat swiftly morphed into a spinning tool for digging earth—a giant drill—which he used to bore through the crack he had created in the shell.
CRAAASH!
"GRYYAARR?!"
The Chaos Dragon let out an anguished and irritated scream, realizing its powers were not hindering Surtr as anticipated.
The trick? It was straightforward. Surtr maintained a safe distance and, instead of relying on his elemental aura, employed pure divine power, which was less affected by the beast’s nullification abilities.
"I discovered your little trick. It’s not much... but your ability seems to nullify everything, though that’s not entirely true. You can significantly weaken elemental energies by warping them with chaos. However, that won’t work against a tool fueled by non-elemental power and large enough to keep me at a distance, right?"
"SHAAAAAHHH!"
The beast hissed furiously, conjuring hundreds of chaotic flame spheres and launching them at Surtr. Yet the young Venerable gripped the Tiamat Shield and infused it with his powers.
He had grown powerful enough to wield such valuable material with ease.
"{Heavenly Smith}: {Tiamat Scale Armor}!"
A temporary armor of glowing scales enveloped his body, enabling him to withstand the chaos flames effortlessly, allowing his drill to pierce the monster’s shell and then its inner body in time.
CRAAASH!
"GRAAAAARRRR!"
The Chaos Dragon screamed as its black and red blood swirled around its wounded form, coalescing into several smaller, monstrous draconic beasts that rushed toward him, attacking from all angles.
Surtr, undeterred, swung his claws, extending them into sword-like lengths. He sliced the creatures apart, igniting them with Origin Flames that reduced them to ashes.
Such minor threats required little effort.
"It’s over."
Surtr drove his drill into the Chaos Dragon’s chest from behind. As the beast screamed and thrashed, a massive surge of Origin Flames engulfed it. Its aura, now significantly weakened, could no longer effectively negate elemental energies, giving Surtr the chance to finish it.
"{Primordial Origin Nova}!"
BOOOMMM!!!
