Esper Harem in the Apocalypse

Chapter 1079: Right and Wrong

Chapter 1079: Right and Wrong

The sun was about to set, yet people were busy with their lives, completely devoid of their surroundings. They were lost in their own world.

Maybe that's what made Rudy feel confident of flying openly without a single worry. After all, it was a normal occurrence. People were used to seeing all types of things and the heroes who made it possible.

Rudy no longer had to feel out of place. He could freely use his powers without worrying about people seeing him.

Rudy landed on a busy street near the parking area of the central park of the city.

"Flying while watching the sunset from the sky is an otherworldly feeling that I would never get used to, no matter how many times I see it." He muttered to himself and glanced around.

'She asked me to meet her at the central park since she was worried that we might not find each other in other crowded places. But this is the central park. Thousands of people come here daily.'

If it weren't for Rudy's vision powers, Rudy would have wasted hours finding Kaguya. Of course, they could meet up at the mentioned gate numbers, but none of that mattered.

Rudy activated his supervision and found Kaguya within a second.

"There she is."

Although she was nearby, Rudy decided to fly instead, and landed in front of her.

Surprised, she stared at him for a moment before glancing around with an anxious look on her face.

"What are you doing?!" She yelled in whispers.

"Huh?"

"This park is a no-fly zone! Pray that no one has seen you, or you might get into big trouble."

"How big are we talking?" she asked sarcastically.

"This is not a laughing matter! You could get your hero license suspended!"

'I don't even have one.' He scoffed.

"Anyway, shall we get going?" Rudy pointed at the street clock and said, "I have got to get home before dinner."

"Is that so?"

"Nah, I am kidding. Let's go." Rudy took the initiative and began walking.

While walking with Rudy, Kaguya inspected Rudy from top to bottom and bit the corner of her lower lips.

'What's with him? I put so much effort into getting ready and he didn't even say anything. I thought he was asking me out on a date. Was I mistaken?'

Kaguya shook her head. 'He is in casual wear and doesn't seem nervous at all. Maybe it was really a misunderstanding.'

She let out a sigh and walked with Rudy, feeling ashamed of herself.

"Hey, I know I already asked you this, but is your friend really a spiritualist?"

"You are still not convinced?"

"That's not it. It's just I don't understand. A spiritualist is someone who deals with soul-related stuff, right? So what has that got to do with memories?" he asked with a confused yet curious look on his face.

She gripped her purse tightly. "Well, I am not knowledgeable about this topic, but as far as I am aware, everything that happens in the body is somehow related to the soul."

"Like?"

"It is said that when someone receives a wound, the soul also gets wounded. The same with the CNS."

"Uhm… central nervous system?"

Kaguya nodded. "Looks like someone paid attention in their classes."

Followed by a chuckle, Rudy said, "That's like common knowledge. Anyway, isn't it ironic that the doctors and scientists who didn't believe in magic and stuff are now heavily relying on them?"

"Yeah, everything has changed. The entire world got affected. The common understanding of the phenomena and the doctrine of life has broken and left incomplete. It would take decades to have a strong foundation of new knowledge."

'I wonder if I can discover the reason for the apocalypse. It didn't randomly just happen. Something or someone must have caused it. Still, what intrigues me is that whatever caused the apocalypse didn't want humanity to suffer and go extinct. It's like they are being tested. A game of survival.' Unbeknownst to him that it was his doing.

After walking for a few minutes, they reached the designated area.

"Are you sure this is the place?"

It was a rundown area with less population and traffic. It was as though they had stepped into a different city. Until a few hours ago, that part was considered one of the wealthiest areas. Until a portal appeared and the monsters swarmed out.

The gap between the buildings was non-existent, filled with cracks and even abandoned buildings. Nonetheless, there were people living in the area, although one couldn't vouch for their safety.

"It's hard to find a place to operate in the city. The rent is expensive and not many people are willing to consult a spiritualist to solve their problems." Kaguya responded in a down tone. "Normal people avoid this type of stuff, while most of the awakened people already belong to guilds that have their own spiritualist."

"If it's not a consistent business, why would they still do it?" Rudy asked curiously.

"Because that's their specialist. They can't have another job." She remarked with a frustrating look on her face.

One might think that the awakened humans had it easy, but there were also many downsides. Once awakened, having a normal job was difficult. Employers wouldn't hire the awakened humans in the context of them misusing their powers or putting other's life in danger.

They had also formed an organization that was against the idea of awakened humans having the job of a normal human.

'I don't know whose side I should take. Heroes save the normal civilians, yet there are people who discriminate against them. How is this any different from the hero organization wanting everyone to be a hero? At least, that would be a safer option for everyone.'

"I don't know who is on the right and who's on the wrong…" he muttered with a sigh.

"Hmm?"

"Let's go."

"Okay. I will lead the way."

Rudy followed Kaguya into the alley and entered an underground facility with no boards. It seemed like it was a club that was abandoned.

'I wouldn't come to a place like this, at least not willingly. It's eerie and disgusting at the same time.'

Rudy spotted a few people on the way, their stares demanding dominance. However, it had no effect on Rudy.

"We are here." Kaguya stopped in front of a room.
