Chapter 3209 Beginning Preparations
Chapter 3209 Beginning Preparations
The dragon's tone grew somber. "There is something inside me that compels me to do that. If such a situation arises, I won't be able to make the choice I want to make. And I don't want that. I want to make a choice right now, when I can."
"But you have a choice," Pearl said. "You have autonomy."
The dragon scoffed. "Autonomy? There's no such thing. What you see is a lie. A fake sense of autonomy. The only reason I can speak so openly is because he wants me to. The moment he tells me to stop, I will never be able to say a single word again."
"Brother is a good person, Father. He won't ever-"
"Son, do you still not understand? I can never be your father. Not the way I am. Not the way you want me to be."
Pearl's eyes filled with tears. "What if I still don't care?"
"Then, do you really believe I'm your father?" Qing Tianchui, the blood beast, asked.
"Yes!" Pearl shouted.
"And do I have a choice?" he asked, turning toward Alex.
"Always," Alex said.
The dragon nodded and turned back toward Pearl. "Then as your father, I will make the best choice I can for my son. I will help with the evolution. I will help my son, even if I die. And I will be happy I was given the choice to make a decision I can be happy about."
The dragon finally turned fully to look at Alex and Bai Jingshen. "How long before we can get started with evolution? If you don't mind, I would like you to delay it for at least a few more days so I can spend some time with my son."
Alex looked at Pearl, wanting to leave this decision to him, but he
knew Pearl did not have the capacity to make the decision right now. If he did make a choice, he would hate himself for it.
Alex couldn't let that happen.
"2 years," Alex said. "I will need 2 whole years before I am done with the preparations. Please spend every second you can of that time with Pearl."
The dragon sucked in a deep breath when given such a long period. "Thank you."
"No need to thank me," Alex said. "You're Pearl's father. So, in a way, you are my father too."
"We should be leaving now," Bai Jingshen said. "Don't let your father out of this palace. We don't want anyone else to see him out there."
"And my mother?" Qing Tianchui asked.
"I'll see what I can do about it. This sort of information is hard to deliver without rousing suspicion. I can't just go there and say your son wants to meet you, you know?"
"What if you said his grandson wants to meet him?" the dragon asked.
"Uhh..." Bai Jingshen struggled to think of a way to tell the dragon that his mother hadn't been the kindest grandmother. "I'll try that. Let's hope it works."
Worst case scenario, he would just kidnap her. "That would be a headache and a half!
Ren Xiao smiled at the group and walked away.
Alex walked out with Bai Jingshen. "Are you sure you want your
grandkids to go through the evolution process? Testing on your own family is dangerous, isn't it?"
"Not as much as you think," Bai Jingshen said.
"If we fail, that child will die."
Bai Jingshen smiled. "Not really." A golden ball floated before him, with golden rings encircling it. "We have this."
Alex's eyes narrowed for a moment before he realized what was happening. "There's a White Tiger's soul in there. No wonder you're not as worried."
Bai Jingshen smiled. "And if this doesn't work, I'll just toss those kids into the ancestral pool. If they still die, then I don't know what else I can do."
Alex chuckled. "Alright. I have a few more things I need help with. Mostly alchemy ingredients that I want to purchase."
Bai Jingshen gave a blank stare. "And you want me to help you with that?"
"I was hoping you could ask Senior Beihan to accompany me. She's a well-known alchemist in the palace from what I've heard. She could get me deals I couldn't get myself."
Bai Jingshen nodded. "Anything else?"
"Yes. Can you check when we can go to the Sun's Talon Realm? I don't want to be ready to leave, only to have to wait another 10 years because they used the teleportation formation just a few days ago."
Bai Jingshen laughed this time. "That you don't have to worry about. With the patriarch's words, even if you missed the teleportation by seconds, they will still help you go again."
"That's great. Then... I think I only need your blood from now on. Gather as much blood as you can in the next few months, and I can get started on condensing it, preparing it for your grandkids."
Bai Jingshen nodded. "Is that all?"
"That's all."
Once the White Tiger was gone, Alex returned to his room as well. He wasn't sure how long it would take for his requests to be fulfilled, but he had no doubt it would at least take a few days, if not more.
That gave him ample time to absorb both of the Black Tortoise blood he had been wanting to absorb for quite some time now. The process wasn't one that Alex liked very much, filling his body with so much pain every moment of it was miserable, but once it ended, it made him the happiest he had ever been.
Both his Water and Earth Spirit roots were now as Superior as a grade they could get. He wondered if there was a way to help them reach
the Supreme grade, but he hadn't the faintest clue for now.
Regardless of that, what he had right now was good enough. Alex wondered if that changed anything. Did his Unity improve by any chance? Could he cultivate faster now?
Wanting to know the answer, he began cultivating.
