Chapter 1272 Segment
Chapter 1272: Chapter 1272 Segment
A month later, Ross and his group were traveling toward a particular castle.
The journey was not especially long, requiring only a little more than a day’s travel. Because of that, Ross chose to use ordinary carriages instead of his flying boat.
The slower method of transportation was intentional. It gave his children a chance to experience some of the minor hardships and inconveniences of life in the cultivation world.
After all, they were starting from the very bottom of the ladder.
Although the majority of his children were already grown, with the eldest having reached twenty-five years of age, Ross still had several younger sons and daughters born from the women he had acquired during the zombie apocalypse.
Unlike him, they possessed no memories of Earth. They had never seen modern cities, automobiles, electricity, or the countless conveniences of his former world.
To them, this cultivation world was the only reality they had ever known.
Ross believed it was important to slowly integrate them into society rather than sheltering them forever behind his protection. Fortunately, he was not worried. His children carried his bloodline.
Every one of them possessed immortality just as he did. As long as they avoided doing something truly foolish, their futures would be far brighter than those of ordinary cultivators.
The convoy continued forward for several more hours before finally reaching its destination.
“Stop!”
The command rang out.
Dozens of carriages gradually slowed before coming to a complete halt. The horses snorted as they stamped their hooves against the ground while servants and guards immediately became alert.
A moment later, a respectful voice sounded from outside Ross’s luxurious carriage.
“Master, we have arrived,” Brandon said.
“Hmm.” Ross gave a slight nod.
The carriage door was opened almost instantly. Brandon stood outside with his head lowered, performing his duties with the efficiency of a servant who had long since perfected his role.
Ross stepped down from the carriage. The moment his feet touched the ground, his gaze landed on the enormous structure standing before him.
A smile appeared on his face. The castle looked as though it had come straight out of a medieval legend. Massive stone walls rose high into the sky.
Towering watchtowers overlooked the surrounding land, while banners fluttered proudly in the wind. The entire structure radiated authority, history, and power.
Behind Ross, carriage doors opened one after another as his wives, children, guards, and attendants began emerging.
Many of the younger children stared at the castle with wide eyes filled with curiosity and excitement.
“It’s huge!”
“I’ve never seen a castle this big before!”
“Can we explore it later?”
Their excited chatter caused several adults to chuckle. Ross merely smiled.
“We’ll take the last part of the journey on foot.” His calm voice immediately silenced the crowd. Without waiting for a response, he began walking toward the castle gates.
The others quickly followed behind him. Like a king leading his vast family and loyal followers, Ross strode toward the grand entrance while the enormous castle loomed before them, awaiting their arrival.
Ten minutes later, they arrived before the enormous gates of the fortress.
The gates were tightly shut, and a tense atmosphere hung over the entire stronghold. Guards could be seen patrolling the walls while archers stood ready at their positions.
Even from outside, it was obvious that Hidden River Fortress was not enjoying a day of peace. Fortunately, that was not Ross’s problem.
“Halt!” a voice suddenly shouted from atop the massive gatehouse. “Hidden River Fortress is not accepting visitors today! Turn around and return to whence you came, or be shot dead by our arrows!”
The threat caused some of Ross’s younger children to look up in surprise.
Ross merely smiled. He stepped forward and looked toward the fortress walls.
“Open the gates. The new owners of this castle have arrived.” His calm voice was not loud, yet it somehow echoed throughout the entire Hidden River Fortress.
The fortress fell silent. The guards stared at one another as if wondering whether they had heard correctly. Then laughter erupted from the walls.
“The new owners?”
“Has this fool lost his mind?”
“Perhaps he wishes to die!”
The mocking voices continued for several moments before a sharp command was issued.
“Fire!” A rain of arrows filled the sky. Thousands of arrows descended toward Ross and his entourage like a dark cloud. Not a single one reached its target.
The moment the arrows entered a certain range, Brandon and his men moved. To ordinary eyes, they seemed to vanish. The next instant, every arrow froze in midair before falling harmlessly to the ground.
Ross did not even bother looking up. Instead, he turned toward Brandon.
“Make it clean. I don’t want any blood.”
Several of his younger children were present, and he had no desire for them to witness a bloody massacre at such a young age.
“Understood, Master.”
Brandon bowed respectfully. Then he disappeared. His men behind him followed. What happened next could only be described as a nightmare for the defenders of Hidden River Fortress.
Screams echoed throughout the fortress. Men vanished from walls. Archers disappeared from towers. Captains ceased to exist in the middle of issuing commands.
Entire squads simply evaporated as though they had never been there in the first place.
King Ji Canghai’s loyal soldiers attempted to resist, but the difference in power was simply too great. To Brandon, mortals were little different from ants. Within the fortress, a silent slaughter unfolded.
Yet outside the gates, Ross’s children saw nothing. There was no blood. No severed limbs. No corpses. Brandon and his men followed their master’s instructions perfectly.
Every enemy they encountered disappeared completely, leaving behind no evidence of their existence. Even King Ji Canghai himself vanished without a trace.
One moment he was issuing frantic orders from within the fortress, and the next he was gone forever. Less than three minutes later, the massive gates of Hidden River Fortress slowly creaked open.
The fortress had changed owners. Ross smiled faintly.
“Let’s go.” As if nothing unusual had happened, he led his wives, children, servants, and followers through the gates.
Behind them stood a fortress that had just experienced a complete change of rulership in less time than it took to drink a cup of tea.
