Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 304: Secrets Inside the Mountain

Chapter 304: Secrets Inside the Mountain

The disciples of the Heavenly Sword Sect could only see crimson lights flickering in the otherwise blue sky.

Even the strongest among them, those who had reached the peak of the Blood Refinement realm, could not take a peek at the fight between Liora and the Masters, much less participate.

They could only judge the outcome of the fight based on the terrified screams of the Elders, causing their faces to slowly turn grim.

On the other hand, Liora did not care about what these weaklings were thinking.

Only a few seconds after the fight started, she gently descended from the sky, landing on the platform made out of the mountain’s peak.

With a faint, almost inaudible click, the saber returned to its sheath, while her feet landed on the flat surface.

Not much had changed compared to before.

Although the bloody rain had made the mountain look grim and terrifying, not a single drop of it had fallen on Liora.

Her body was still intact and devoid of injuries, while her appearance was completely spotless.

Many souls were floating silently within her palm, each representing a now-dead Master.

"More Masters than I initially expected. I should be able to recover some of my Evolution Points.", Liora whispered secretly.

She didn’t show much happiness in having killed these people so easily.

Even when she had not become a Lesser Devil, dealing with these people would have been a walk in the park.

After all, a Grandmaster was equivalent to a Lesser Devil, while Masters were merely ranked Young Devils. The gap in strength between them was massive and could hardly be bridged.

Moreover, Liora was not an ordinary Grandmaster.

While still a Master, she had been able to make the Blood Devil Sect part of the Seven Great Sects single-handedly.

This was evidence of her immense power and her status in the Northern Lands.

Shaking her head, Liora did not contemplate these things for long.

She looked at the half-destroyed platform and the fragments of swords, and, ignoring the fearful screams of the disciples outside, approached the wooden hut.

The building had been left open earlier, so Liora did not face any difficulty.

Without any resistance, she stepped into the hut, and its interior fell into her eyes.

A small-sized bed, a wooden chair, and a table with a cup of freshly-brewed tea on top of it.

Besides these, there was nothing else for Liora to see.

No rare treasures, no legendary pills, not even any book containing a secret technique.

Initially, she was a little dissatisfied. But she soon shook her head and dispelled her disappointment.

"It makes sense. What valuable item can a Master possibly have?"

"Even if there are any treasures or Warrior techniques, they would be in the warehouse of the sect rather than in this wooden hut.", she judged and was about to turn around and leave.

However, just then, her footsteps suddenly halted.

A faint frown appeared on her face as her consciousness swept around several times.

Under her investigation, the wooden hut had no secrets.

Or at least, that was what Liora initially thought. But then, she discovered something surprising.

She lowered her head and stared at one of the seemingly ordinary wooden tiles along the floor.

There was nothing special about it, as it blended perfectly with the rest of the hut.

But its lack of uniqueness was exactly what piqued Liora’s interest.

After all, in her consciousness, this wooden tile was invisible. It didn’t block her investigation, but instead seemed not to exist.

"Interesting...", Liora couldn’t help but mutter as she slowly approached it and stopped before it.

Once there, she conducted several experiments. After many attempts, she arrived at a conclusion:

This floor tile did not exist. It was an illusion, a means to hide the thing behind it.

"Is there anything in a Warrior sect that can escape my investigation?", Liora wondered as she stepped onto the wooden tile.

Immediately, her foot passed straight through it, and her body lost its support.

As if she had suddenly teleported in the sky, she started to fall.

The corners of her vision blurred, as darkness soon filled her vision and the wooden hut disappeared.

--

The mountain’s interior was empty. This was something Liora understood instantly as she sensed herself falling endlessly.

With her strength, she could have stopped her descent at any time. However, she didn’t.

She allowed gravity to do its thing, only putting an end to it when a faint light emerged a few seconds later.

With a surge of her demonic energy, Liora controlled herself and gently landed on the ground.

With the end of her free fall, she found herself in a vast underground room, carved into the mountain’s interior.

Stone walls made out of the mountain itself encased it, while several giant torches hung on them and dispelled the darkness.

The trembling fires reflected off Liora’s face and allowed her to take a look at her surroundings.

Or rather, to take a look at the thing within the mountain.

It was a mountain of lifeless, cold corpses.

Stacked on top of each other, blood flowed from the mountain’s top to its bottom, creating a large blood pool right beneath it.

There were thousands, if not tens of thousands, of corpses making up this mountain, and judging by their state, it was apparent that a portion of these people had only recently died.

Although Liora had seen such scenes hundreds of times before, she was inevitably surprised.

Not only because of how gruesome this scene was, but also because she noticed several familiar auras.

They belonged to the Masters whom she had killed earlier, as their traces could be found on every single one of these corpses.

"The Heavenly Sword Sect is considered a righteous sect and is famous for upholding justice. Even in the previous city, people praised it and wished to be accepted as disciples."

"But now, it seems that things are far from that simple."

"Sure enough, this world is different from that of the Knights. Without an organization suppressing everything, chaos has spread everywhere."

"And... the ones who suffer the most are not the Warriors themselves, but ordinary people."

Liora had long seen the truth of the world and was not surprised by such a fact. The strong ruled over the weak, especially in a world with extraordinary power like this.

Suppressing those thoughts, her gaze drifted off the corpses, and she continued investigating the mountain’s interior.

Soon, the colossal serpent painted across the floor got her attention.

It was covered in black scales which shone with a unique brilliance, and surrounded the mountain of corpses, as if protecting them.

No! Upon taking a closer look, Liora discovered that the serpent’s open maw seemed ready to devour the mountain of corpses instead.
