Chapter 390: Reincarnation Fruit
Chapter 390: Reincarnation Fruit
Liora’s consciousness was divided into two.
One half was focused on her real body, while the other half was following the clone made from her flesh, controlling it as if it were a puppet.
The moment the clone touched the formation and tried to pass through it, Liora understood that her previous worries had been meaningless.
Just like the body part of the Tree Devil before it, the clone easily passed through the formation as if it didn’t exist.
Only a few steps later, the clone disappeared, concealed by the formation’s brilliance.
Since the two shared vision, Liora was able to see what the clone was seeing.
The interior of the formation led to a different world. Or to be more accurate, it led to a demi-plane.
However, compared to the demi-planes she had encountered in the past, this one was completely barren, looking more like an empty field than a world.
The only thing as far as Liora could see was a colossal tree dividing the sky into two, as well as a small square stone right beside it.
The eyes of Liora’s clone only stayed on the square for a brief moment before they quickly shifted onto the tree.
She first took a look at its massive trunk before focusing on one of its many branches.
She could sense that this branch was different from the rest. It was unique.
Not only because it carried a powerful aura of life, as if the Goddess of Life had descended here, but also because a plump, appetizing fruit was growing on it.
Even though the person seeing it was merely a clone and not her real body, the soul of the real Liora outside the formation was also affected.
She had an instinctive yearning for the fruit, as if obtaining it and devouring it would grant her great benefit.
A whisper rang in her mind, telling her to rush in and grab it.
Liora, however, did not rush to take action.
It was only after controlling the clone and investigating the demi-plane several times, confirming that there was no danger, that her real body finally rose to its feet.
Just like the clone before her, Liora’s real body also took a step forward and easily passed through the formation.
Soon, the clone and the real body met within the demi-plane, one standing beside the other.
"It’s good that I can take it back. Each clone consumes a large amount of Indestructible Matter."
"If they die, this Indestructible Matter would be lost forever, and I would have to work hard to recover.", Liora breathed a sigh of relief and controlled the clone to disperse.
Instantly, the clone exploded, transforming into blood, skin, and flesh that flew towards her broken palm and wove into a new one.
The Indestructible Matter that Liora had previously consumed was quickly replenished, only losing a small part of it in the process.
Liora was not heartbroken, though. Or rather, she didn’t care to pay attention right now.
Her focus was on the fruit growing on the tree’s branch, as its mere smell had caused both her body and soul to tremble violently.
It was only when Liora came in person that she understood the true value of this fruit.
Most likely, it was an earth-shattering treasure, one worthy of even Archdevils fighting over.
Liora’s mind moved, and she began combing through her memories, trying to find any mention of the fruit.
A couple of seconds later, she had an answer.
Surprisingly, the fruit’s information was not contained in her bloodline memories, but in the intelligence she had previously purchased from the Astral Pavilion.
"Reincarnation Fruit.", Liora muttered its name subconsciously.
Little was known about this fruit, and it was only briefly mentioned in the intelligence, merely in passing.
The reason why it was even mentioned was not because of the fruit itself, but because an Archdevil of Hollow City had devoured one in its youth.
Since it was mentioned only in passing, the function of the Reincarnation Fruit was difficult to discern.
All that was known was that devouring it could improve the quality and strength of a person’s soul.
This tidbit, coupled with the extreme yearning emanating from her soul that was urging her to move forward, let Liora know that she was not mistaken:
This fruit was indeed the Reincarnation Fruit, a supreme treasure that fitted her future plans perfectly.
Unfortunately...
"Such treasures have a very long gestation time."
"Although the Reincarnation Fruit has already formed and looks about to be born, it’s in fact very far from truly blossoming."
Liora sized up the fruit and concluded:
It would take at least tens of thousands of years for it to be born.
In fact, such a time was relatively short for a treasure of this level.
After all, the total gestation time of a Reincarnation Fruit was numbered in millions of years. For it, tens of thousands of years were nothing, and it could be considered to have reached its final stage.
Unfortunately, not to mention whether Liora was willing to wait or not for such a long time, even if she were, she wouldn’t have had the chance to make a choice.
She was not in a safe location at the moment.
Even though this demi-plane was covered in a powerful formation, she didn’t believe that she would be able to stay in here forever.
Sooner or later, she would be forced to leave, whether as a result of the Zerg Queen’s plans or because of the Universe Chamber of Commerce.
Thinking of this, a trace of reluctance arose within Liora.
She stared at the Reincarnation Fruit hanging from the branch, and hesitated whether she should just pick it off.
Although doing so was bound to decrease this fruit’s value and its effects would deteriorate significantly, this was still better than getting nothing.
Liora contemplated for a while, trying to think of ideas to deal with this predicament.
A few minutes later, her eyes lit up.
Glancing at the tree and then at the Greater Devil remains outside the demi-plane, she soon had an idea.
"It’s fine if it works. If it fails, I will lose a couple of Greater Devil remains at most.", she thought secretly.
Having decided to give it a try, she did not hesitate any longer.
Her hand reached out and bypassed the formation, leaving the demi-plane and grabbing the remains of the elderly Devil and the undead creatures lying outside.
Once she took her hand back and brought them into the formation, she took a step forward and approached the tree.
The ring coiling around her finger shook as she did.
The black serpent’s maw opened wide, and it suddenly gained life, flicking its tail before becoming bigger.
Soon, the serpent surrounded Liora and transformed into an illusory, translucent river.
Liora stared at the river, and a faint fluctuation flashed inside her crimson eyes.
The river’s flowing waves were reflected in her pupils, and each droplet seemed to contain scenes that had already happened or were destined to occur in the future.
For a moment, Liora was immersed in those scenes, causing her body to also become illusory, as if she were about to integrate with a river.
Fortunately, her body suddenly trembled and jolted her awake, clearing her confusion away.
"The power of time is indeed incredible.", Liora couldn’t help but let out a sigh with some sweat on her forehead.
"Snake of Time is created through my own technique, yet I almost lost myself and became part of it."
"Fortunately, my will is strong enough and the Snake of Time is only at the first level."
"Otherwise, it would have been difficult to wake up."
The Snake of Time was not the real River of Time after all.
Liora understood that the scenes contained in its droplets were all fake, merely the result of her own imagination of what the future would be.
This was why she was able to wake up at the end.
If she were to meet the real River of Time, let alone Liora, even the strongest Archdevil would have instantly perished.
Having had this experience, Liora didn’t dare to look at the illusory river any longer.
Taking a deep breath, she stretched out her hand and let her skin trace along its surface before lightly flicking it with her fingers.
Instantly, several drops of water shot out and rushed towards the tree.
Once they fell onto its surface, an invisible light flashed, and time around it blurred.
