Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 389: Treasure

Chapter 389: Treasure

Liora stared silently at the item in her hand.

It was a map made from the skin of a Chaos Beast, on which a labyrinth-like place was painted.

Thousands of long corridors made up the labyrinth, making it look like a maze with no end.

Among these long corridors, only a few dozen places stood out.

Several locations were circled and marked with an ’X’ shape, while a large Devil Rune had been painted at the center of the maze.

If Liora had obtained this map in the past, she would not have known what it represented.

However, having gone through several hours of exploration, she instantly understood that this was the map of the maze she was in.

"Judging by the traces, my current location should be right... here.", Liora’s finger traced through the leather-like surface of the map before finally landing on one of the marked areas.

Recalling the formation she had previously seen and the several undead creatures guarding this place, her earlier guesses were fully confirmed.

The Universe Chamber of Commerce indeed knew of this place.

In fact, not only were they aware of this maze, but they might have explored this place in the past.

"It makes sense."

"Before the Zerg Queen invaded this world, it had already been fully controlled by the Universe Chamber of Commerce."

"With the organization’s strength, they should have discovered nearly every secret of this world."

This realization, though, led to another question:

If the Universe Chamber of Commerce had already known about the maze and had specifically come here for it, then what was their purpose in requesting help from them?

Or was it that they had found this place but hadn’t expected the Zerg Queen to use it?

Countless thoughts raced through Liora’s mind, but she ultimately shook her head and pushed that matter aside for now.

She had to deal with the situation at hand before she could find an answer to all these questions.

Thinking of this, Liora quietly approached the formation.

She had only taken a glimpse of it from afar before and had no time to fully inspect it.

Yet, as she stepped near and stared at the unknown runes running across the floor and squirming along the walls, she understood that this formation might be more extraordinary than she originally thought.

A crimson rune flashed within Liora’s eyes. It glowed with a deep light as she attempted to decipher the formation’s secrets.

Unfortunately, the crimson rune shattered the very next moment.

Liora’s face grew pale, and her aura fluctuated considerably, making it obvious that she had suffered backlash.

Still, though she was injured, a smile couldn’t help but appear on her face.

Though her attempt had ultimately failed and she hadn’t found a way to break it, she had managed to discover some of its secrets.

"Indeed. Judging from the aura inside the formation, there should be a powerful treasure being gestated within it."

"No wonder this place was specifically marked on the map."

Her resolve to break through the formation intensified.

After all, a treasure specifically marked by the Universe Chamber of Commerce was bound to be precious.

Moreover, considering the current situation, every bit of extra strength might very well save her and Alpha’s lives.

Despite this, Liora did not lose her composure and attack the formation. She understood that it was impossible to break it with her current means.

Rather, her consciousness dove back into the space ring and went through the elderly Devil’s belongings.

There were Devil Techniques, precious weapons, and even the coordinates of other worlds among these items.

However, Liora’s eyes remained as calm as a lake.

These things might have interested her in the past, but she had already become a Greater Devil.

The treasures carried by someone at the Indestructible Body stage were now worthless in her eyes.

The reason Liora went through the space ring was not to look for treasures, but for a method or item that could help her break the formation.

Unfortunately, she found nothing even after searching for a while.

For a moment, Liora began to doubt whether she had been mistaken, and the Universe Chamber of Commerce was not as prepared as she thought.

But suddenly, she recalled the strange composition of its team, and a suspicion formed in her mind.

She didn’t hesitate to put it to the test.

Demonic energy shot out of her body and wrapped around the elderly Devil’s palm in the distance before it brought it closer.

Then, she tossed it into the formation.

According to the results of her earlier investigation, such an attempt to go through it would result in the formation’s counterattack.

Yet, even as the palm came into contact with the formation, the expected attack didn’t arrive.

As if the two existed in a different dimension, the palm easily passed through the formation, only causing a faint ripple across its surface.

The palm’s outline quickly blurred, and it became increasingly hazy before fully disappearing into the secret place.

Liora was delighted upon seeing this. This confirmed that her suspicion was correct.

"To go through the formation, one has to be a certain type of person. Or to be more accurate, they have to possess a certain kind of bloodline."

Obviously, the elderly Devil possessed that bloodline, though it remained to be seen if this was a coincidence or the plan of the organization behind him.

Liora’s eyes narrowed, and several thoughts went through her mind.

Even if other people were to find of this function, they wouldn’t be able to do anything. At most, they could only look for people with a suitable bloodline and bring them here.

After all, no one could change their bloodline.

However, Liora was different.

Grabbing one of the remaining parts of the elderly Devil, she stared at it for a brief moment before activating one of her seldom-used, but very valuable, abilities: Overwrite.

Bloody tentacles grew out of her body and quickly devoured it.

As more and more of the elderly Devil’s essence was devoured, Liora’s body began to transform.

Not only in appearance, but in a deeper, more fundamental way.

Her skin became rough and full of wrinkles, while her body elongated.

Her neck and legs had become extremely long in a short period of time, as if they had transformed into the trunk of a tree.

Coupled with the rest of her changes and the abilities that the elderly Devil had displayed during the fight, Liora immediately understood her current state.

"Was that guy a Tree Devil? No wonder he was so easily suppressed by a bunch of undead."

"Sure enough, Tree Devils are the shame of Devils.", Liora couldn’t help but shake her head.

Tree Devils were an infamous Devil race. Not because of their strength, but because of their weakness.

Becoming a Greater Devil was already a nearly impossible achievement for them, and considering their lack of powerful abilities, they would be quite weak even if they managed to advance to this point.

Though disdainful, Liora did not think about this matter for long.

After becoming familiar with her current body, she turned to the formation once again.

Judging from the previous experiment, there was a high chance that she would be able to enter it in her current state.

However, a "high chance" was not enough for Liora.

The next moment, her right hand flashed across the left, and her palm was neatly separated.

The blood and skin across the separated flesh squirmed eerily and, before long, landed on the ground and transformed into Liora.

Sensing the consumption of Indestructible Matter, the real Liora couldn’t help but shake her head. Creating a clone was not worth it.

She had consumed a large amount of Indestructible Matter, yet the clone only had the strength of a True Devil.

Fortunately, the clone’s strength did not matter. What she wanted to do next did not require a high combat power.

Thinking of this, ignored the loss and took action.

The two bodies exchanged a glance without speaking a word before the clone moved.

Taking a step forward, it appeared in front of the formation, and with another step, walked through it.
