Chapter 413: True Inheritor & Giving Up Without a Fight
Chapter 413: True Inheritor & Giving Up Without a Fight
Having taken full control over the inheritance and the palace itself, Liora now understood why the Commander and the Zerg Queen were fighting and what the clashing symbols above them represented.
According to the information she had obtained upon refining its core, the inheritance gave several different "positions" to people according to how they performed during the trial.
Among them, the rank of ordinary challengers was at the bottom, and they were considered people not worthy of cultivation.
No matter how powerful such people were at the moment, the inheritance considered them mere cannon fodder. Such people had little potential and had only a small chance of ever becoming an Archdevil.
Right above the ordinary challengers were what the inheritance referred to as "judges".
Such beings had the potential to become Archdevils in the near future, and, in the opinion of the inheritance’s owner, could prove useful to the true inheritor, potentially serving as their subordinates and underlings.
Judges had partial control over the inheritance and the palace.
Within certain limits, they could control the trials, provided that the reason they did so was to find the true inheritor.
Finally, the last rank of challengers was the "true inheritor".
These were the people who would obtain the complete inheritance and the palace, fully inheriting the mantle of its previous owner.
Only one such person could exist at the same time, and it was a process of first-come, first-served.
Since Liora had refined the core of the inheritance palace, it was obvious that she had been categorized in the third type of challengers, becoming the true inheritor.
On the other hand, the Commander and the Zerg Queen might have passed the trials, but the difficulty and the way they achieved this did not allow them to obtain the full inheritance.
They could only obtain some less precious rewards and techniques, not much better than the first type of challengers.
As for the other Greater Devils? Such people were purely cannon fodder.
Not only Liora, but even the Commander and the Zerg Queen could control the marks they bore upon entering the palace and manipulate them at will.
Although such information went through Liora’s mind and she analyzed everything, her movements didn’t pause for even a second.
As her will communicated with the palace, its size began to shrink.
Then, under her control, it moved.
The many Greater Devils outside could not guess that Liora had already discovered the plans of the Zerg Queen and the Commander, nor that she had been observing them for a while.
Everyone, including Assira and Alpha, could only watch the fight between the two parties, unable to do anything.
The clash of the peculiar symbols was reflected in their eyes, as well as the brilliant lights created during their confrontation.
Although most people could see the terror in these lights, some of them were immersed in them, captivated by their extraordinary beauty.
That was, until suddenly, the inheritance palace in the distance trembled violently and woke them up.
No one noticed its changes at first, as most had lost control over their bodies, while the free ones were immersed in their battle.
Yet, as the inheritance palace began to rapidly shrink, someone soon discovered something amiss.
Then, the rest of them also noticed.
The Commander and the Zerg Queen quickly frowned.
Although they didn’t know whether someone was manipulating the palace behind the scenes, this unexpected event was already enough to make them alarmed.
The two subconsciously exchanged a glance.
As if they had reached an agreement beforehand, they both retracted their respective symbols into their bodies and were about to step back.
However, just when they were halfway through that motion and before the symbols could retreat within their bodies, the figure of a red-haired woman emerged from the palace and landed beside it.
Then, she stretched out her hand, allowing the now-miniature palace to land on top of her palm as if it were a toy.
If the arrival of the Zerg Queen had surprised the Commander, then the appearance of this woman had shocked him and left him stunned.
Not only him, but the other Greater Devils were as shocked as he was.
In particular, the Zerg Queen and the Commander were caught off guard. Not by her sudden arrival, but by the methods the woman utilized.
Instantly, they both understood: this woman must have mastered the inheritance and refined the palace’s core!
Unbeknownst to everyone, someone had become the true inheritor while the two "Judges" were fighting.
A wave of terror washed over the two people.
As the "Judges" selected by the inheritance, they understood what the status of the true inheritor meant.
Just like they could control the challengers who were deemed to have failed, the true inheritor could also control them in turn.
Even if this person couldn’t do so at the moment, it would only be a matter of time.
The first to react was the Commander.
Surprisingly, he didn’t choose to fight against Liora but instead took a miniature boat and coughed a mouthful of blood on it.
The boat grew bigger.
Once it was large enough to contain him, the Commander jumped in and urged it to fly away.
Clearly, he had decided to escape.
Unlike him, the Zerg Queen made a different decision. Yet, it was no less surprising.
Perhaps because of the different environment of the Zerg Race, which favored the strong and thought of the weak as mere slaves, the Zerg Queen was quick to act.
She immediately bent and knelt down, bowing respectfully.
"My Lord! Please accept me as your subordinate!"
"I believe that my status as a Judge is enough to show my potential!"
"I can greatly help Your Excellency!", she spoke all at once, her voice soft and polite.
Their respective actions might have been shocking, but they did not catch Liora off guard.
She knew that this was the natural reaction of people when facing an unknown terror.
Some would choose to flee and try to escape far away, while others would give up and plead for mercy.
Unfortunately, Liora was not planning to let either of these parties go.
She didn’t reply to the kneeling Zerg Queen nor motioned her to get up, but instead shifted to the Commander.
Although a mere moment had passed, the opponent had already escaped far away.
Judging from his speed, the boat that was carrying him was a precious treasure.
Perhaps it was something he obtained in one of the Commander’s own adventures, or perhaps it was the reward given by the inheritance palace.
Utilizing such a treasure, if the Commander was given one more second, he would escape into the maze outside, making it nearly impossible for anyone to locate him.
However, Liora did not show any anxiety. Her eyes remained calm, and she stared in his direction without as much as frowning.
Just when the Commander believed that he had finally escaped and a relieved smile appeared on his face, though, she finally took action.
Her right hand moved.
