Chapter 568: War
Chapter 568: War
In another place, millions of miles away from the Blood Forest Realm and the ruins of the colossal fortress, a fierce battle was currently underway.
The battlefield was occupied by several different races, each with their own unique characteristics.
Humans, Zerg, members of the Mechanical Race, and demons.
Even some other species that didn’t fit any of these categories appeared and could be seen fighting fiercely against one another.
The battlefield wasn’t divided into opposing sides.
Instead, each of the four Apex Civilizations fought independently, leading their subordinate races to fight against the other three all at once.
The resulting chaos was beyond imagination.
Lifeless corpses constantly fell while blood sprayed in every direction.
With each passing second, thousands of creatures lost their lives, making this place look like a slaughterhouse.
Amidst this ongoing slaughter, a lone woman barely stood out.
With only Rank 4 strength and no particularly outstanding status among the soldiers, she was little more than another face in the bloody meat grinder.
All she could do was try her best to protect herself, weaving through the battlefield as cautiously as she could.
Inwardly, Elena couldn’t help but curse.
She didn’t know what had gone wrong.
She had merely followed a talented student to one of the Super Academies, hoping to use the opportunity to grow stronger and earn resources for Nova Terra Planet.
Unfortunately, everything changed halfway through.
Not long after that student was assigned a Trial and entered one of the many secret realms, upheaval spread, not only throughout the War Academy, but across the entire Human Federation.
Given her low status, Elena naturally didn’t know the exact details.
All she knew was that the four Apex Civilizations had seemingly gone insane.
Each had mobilized massive armies composed of millions of Awakened beings, waging war on every front.
Even then, Elena had remained unaffected at first and was able to enjoy safety at the heart of War Academy.
It wasn’t until a week ago, when the conflict seemed to intensify even further and more soldiers were called, that she received an urgent summons.
As a member of the Human Federation, she had neither the right nor the desire to refuse.
However, no matter how willing she might once have been to sacrifice herself for the betterment of humanity, that resolve shattered the moment she faced the cruel reality.
Looking at the countless creatures around her, the weakest of whom were her equals while the strongest could shatter entire galaxies with a wave of their hands, Elena nearly burst into tears.
How could she, a Rank 4 Awakener and someone powerful enough to rule over several planets, end up as cannon fodder upon coming here?
Had times changed so quickly?
Unfortunately, Elena didn’t have the luxury of dwelling on such thoughts.
Soon enough, another barrage of attacks descended upon her, and she was forced to defend. Letting out a roar, she lunged at the opponent with all her strength.
—
“Has a major war broken out across the Cosmic Universe?”
Liora couldn’t help but raise her eyebrows as she listened to Alpha’s explanation.
She was not pretending. She was really surprised.
After all, although the Apex Civilizations had always been at war, the fights had primarily taken place within the extraterrestrial battlefields near the borders.
There hadn’t been a conflict on this scale for millions of years. At least, not one capable of affecting the entire universe.
“Is it a coincidence? Or does it have something to do with my arrival in this world?”, Liora wondered.
In truth, the question she wanted answered the most wasn’t whether it was related to her, but whether it was connected to her archenemy, the Hollow Ancestor.
In her view, if there were anyone capable of causing such turmoil, it would be that Ancient Devil.
Had that man finally begun to make moves, too?
Countless thoughts flashed through Liora’s mind, but in the end, she suppressed them all.
After letting Alpha finish her explanation, she didn’t rush to return to the Academy.
Instead, her eyes narrowed as she took the initiative to connect with the illusory world that overlapped with reality.
While she had remained within the Blood Forest Realm, she had been unable to access humanity’s greatest achievement—the Information World.
Though it was omnipresent, she simply lacked the authority to enter it.
Only now, after she returned to the universe and was deemed to have completed her Trial, did she finally regain that privilege.
She immediately noticed the difference from the last time she had interacted with it.
In the past, the Information World had been little more than an abstract concept. Although she knew it existed, she could hardly perceive, much less locate it.
Now, however, she could clearly sense its aura permeating throughout the entire universe.
Liora narrowed her eyes.
Her consciousness spread outward, establishing contact with those faint traces.
Instantly, a foreign power enveloped a small part of her consciousness, causing it to “ascend” into a higher dimension.
Darkness soon swallowed her vision.
When she opened her eyes again, she found herself no longer in the real world, but within a realm composed entirely of information.
Her residence inside the Information World remained exactly as before. Without Liora’s explicit permission, no one could enter it.
Even so, she had no time to pay attention to the mansion itself.
Her focus was immediately drawn to the countless flashing alerts filling the edge of her vision, chiming one after another without end.
As she pressed the messages button, an enormous list unfolded before her. The messages numbered in the hundreds, if not thousands.
Some of them came from her War Academy classmates, others from the professors, while there were even some from people she could not recognize.
Judging by the distinctive crimson outline surrounding the last messages, Liora realized that their senders possessed an unusual status, a status high enough to grant them a special authority within the Information World.
Liora didn’t read them immediately. Her gaze first settled on the message pinned at the very top.
As she concentrated on it and let it open, her eyes instinctively landed on the sender’s name.
Anna Kasperin.
