Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 599: Hall & Figure

Chapter 599: Hall & Figure

The moment Liora opened her eyes again, the long corridor, the sounds of battle, and the dense black mist had all disappeared.

In their place stretched a vast golden hall.

Countless pillars rose toward the ceiling, supporting its immense weight, while a gigantic screen-like structure hung upon the far wall.

A majestic aura permeated the entire room, making the atmosphere both tense and majestic.

Just as Liora was about to inspect her surroundings more carefully, several lights flickered.

Golden gates that had not existed a moment earlier suddenly materialized before they swung open.

Then, figures stepped through them.

There were not many. Only a handful in total.

Yet Liora recognized every one of them.

They were all part of the demons who had entered the city fragment alongside her, as well as the last remaining of the three Zerg Queens.

Together with Liora and Elaouthr, there were only seven people in the hall.

Five demons. One Zerg Queen.

… And a Devil.

Just like every powerhouse who was suddenly transported into an unfamiliar place would do, everyone instinctively surveyed their surroundings.

The Zerg Queen’s gaze swept across the hall with astonishing speed.

It lingered for a split second on every demon before seemingly searching for something else.

When she failed to find what she was looking for, her expression visibly darkened.

The next instant, she acted without hesitation.

A piercing wail spread throughout the hall.

One of the original three Venerable demons stiffened in shock.

Turning his head to look at his companion, he found the latter’s eyes devoid of any emotions.

More importantly, one of their limbs had entered his torso, piercing through his heart and crushing his eternal organs.

“Soul Slave!”, he couldn’t help but exclaim, realizing that unknowingly, this person had been enslaved by the Zerg Queen.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have the time to do anything with that realization.

A moment later, his body exploded. It transformed into pure essence.

Before the surrounding world could reclaim it, the Zerg Queen opened her mouth and swallowed every last trace of it.

Within her body, her bloodline abilities immediately began refining the essence to give birth to new Zerg.

She showed no happiness, though. The trace of gloom remained within her eyes.

“Erissa!”

Only then did the tentacled Emperor recover from his shock.

Originally, he had believed he held the advantage in any future confrontation.

After all, numbers were on his side. With the Zerg Queen alone and his subordinates to help him, victory almost seemed certain.

However, he had never expected the Zerg Queen to be so ruthless.

He had long suspected she had planted a Soul Slave among the demons.

But he had never imagined it would be a Venerable, much less that they would suddenly attack and kill one of his subordinates.

With a single move, Erissa had completely overturned the balance.

One of the Venerables under his command had never reached this place. Now another was dead, while the last had become his enemy.

The tentacled Emperor’s face turned ugly.

His gaze swept across his subordinates, the four remaining King demons, and silently evaluated his chances of victory.

The Zerg Queen did the same.

Yet strangely, despite one Venerable’s death and another one’s betrayal, neither side made another move.

Elaouthr looked puzzled, eager to rush toward the enemy.

Liora, however, immediately understood why.

“These people weren’t brought here of their own accord like Elaouthr and me. Someone else must have summoned them.”

“The Zerg Queen was desperate enough to gamble on eliminating a Venerable the moment she arrived. But taking any further action now would be unwise.”

“After all, the mastermind behind everything has yet to appear. No one can guess their thoughts.”

The moment that thought surfaced, Liora’s sweeping gaze suddenly paused at the center of the hall.

There had been nothing there just moments ago. But somehow, an illusory figure now stood there silently.

The others quickly noticed it as well.

The instant everyone’s eyes landed upon the figure, it was as though a mechanism had been activated.

The figure gained life and slowly turned around before opening its mouth.

“Welcome, everyone, to my humble abode.”

“I’m very pleased to see that all of you have managed to remain alive thus far.”

“Reaching this place means that you have the opportunity to enter the Hall of Wishes…”

As the figure spoke, most people’s expressions changed.

Those few words alone revealed that everything they had experienced until now was similar to a test.

Liora had been correct before.

It was not that the Zerg Queens had been especially unlucky. Rather, she and Elaouthr had been exceptionally fortunate.

Everyone else—including both Emperors—had suffered greatly just to survive until this point.

One piece of evidence was that one of the Venerable demons was nowhere to be seen.

Another one was the Zerg Queen herself.

Despite the complete disappearance of the weaker Zerg Queens, the Rank 10 Zerg Queen displayed no surprise whatsoever, as though she had already accepted the possibility long ago.

While everyone silently processed the figure’s words, the first to recover was none other than the Zerg Queen.

Looking at the seemingly ordinary figure, whose aura resembled that of a mere mortal, she spoke.

“Your Excellency is the master of this place? Then the appearance of this palace must have been under your instructions.”

“If that’s the case… Why?”

“Why go through all this trouble when you could have simply transferred us here from the beginning? You should possess the power to do so.”

The Zerg Queen’s tone was polite and plain.

Yet her heaving chest betrayed the fury hidden beneath it.

She had sacrificed far too much!

To reach this place, she had lost the majority of the Zerg army she had built over the past million years.

More importantly, the two Zerg Queens she had brought alongside her had already died.

Ordinarily, she would not have cared much about their deaths.

However, one of these two women possessed an extraordinary background.

If she failed to uncover the reason behind that Zerg Queen’s death—or at least obtain sufficient benefits from this palace to justify it—she would face severe consequences after returning.

Because of that, among everyone present, the person most desperate to obtain this inheritance was neither the tentacled Emperor nor Liora.

It was actually the Zerg Queen.

Faced with her barely concealed anger, the figure remained indifferent.

Only after several moments did it shake its head and deny her words.

“I’m not the master of this palace. I’m merely a spirit, created to obey my creators’ commands.”

“As for why I didn’t bring you here from the beginning…”
