Chapter 600: Myriad Dao Board
Chapter 600: Myriad Dao Board
“It is because certain conditions must first be fulfilled before the final stage of the Trial can begin.”
“Under normal circumstances, it would only activate after the first person reached this chamber. However, there are also several rarer conditions capable of producing the same result.”
As it spoke, its gaze briefly swept across Liora and Elaouthr.
No one noticed. No one except Liora.
She immediately understood what they were implying. The Immortal Token’s appearance happened to be one of those conditions.
Once someone activated it, every previous challenge would immediately end, and all remaining participants would be brought here.
“Is this Elaouthr’s luck?”
“Had he activated it the moment we entered the palace, everyone would still be alive, making it difficult for him to obtain anything valuable.”
“Instead, he only chose to use it after many people had already died, including the two Zerg Queens and a Venerable.”
Thinking of this, Liora couldn’t help but shake her head.
It was the first time she had encountered someone so lucky.
She had met many people favored by the Will of the World before. Yet none of their situations was so outrageous.
She could only attribute it to this world’s extraordinary nature, as well as its high enough level.
While Liora pondered these matters, the figure continued speaking without pause.
“I’m sure everyone here has already uncovered some clues regarding our so-called ancient civilization.”
After seeing everyone nod, it continued.
“So you should also have realized that a great catastrophe once occurred, forcing the people of this city to flee in a hurry.”
“Whether they survived, I do not know. Perhaps they perished long ago and have turned into distant legends.”, the figure shook its head.
“However, they did not leave without making preparations. This palace is one of them.”
As it spoke, the figure waved toward the massive screen behind it.
Immediately, lights flickered across its surface, as though the screen was turning on.
“The ancient cultivators understood that their chances of survival were slim. But they also knew never to place all their hopes in the same basket.”
“Thus, these palaces were left behind as beacons of hope.”
“The cultivators hoped that one day, someone would inherit everything they had left behind and that person would rebuild the lost cultivation civilization.”
The figure’s tone carried deep nostalgia, as though countless ancient memories were resurfacing. The images of unfathomable beings leaving their inheritances subconsciously appeared in everyone’s mind.
Liora did not doubt that part.
The ancient city was divided into thousands of districts.
Each district possessed its own City Lord. If each palace was the same, then the inheritances left behind should be well beyond her expectations.
As she listened, Liora nodded secretly.
Although she didn’t believe the figure’s words one hundred percent, she knew that such people would not lie entirely.
At worst, they would mix truth with falsehood until the two became nearly impossible to distinguish. Only then would it be difficult for someone to find loopholes in their words.
“For example, this palace may truly contain an inheritance. But its purpose is far from simply selecting their successor…”
Leaving behind an inheritance to ask for someone to rebuild the cultivation civilization?
Liora found that difficult to believe. She was more inclined to believe something else:
“Leaving an inheritance can help these ancient cultivators revive or awaken from their deep slumber.”
That conclusion came not only from the clues in the palace, but also from her conversation with the phantom inside the Heavenly Armor Pavilion.
Soon, however, she pushed those thoughts aside. Her eyes shifted back toward the screen.
By now, it had activated.
Yet no images appeared upon it.
Instead, countless patterns of different colors and shapes filled its surface.
Every pattern was unique. There were billions, if not more, of them.
Despite their differences, however, they fit together perfectly.
Like pieces of an incomprehensibly vast puzzle, they formed a single complete whole, coexisting perfectly while being distinct.
Just looking at this puzzle was enough to give anyone a headache.
Even with Ancient Devil soul strength, Liora felt a wave of dizziness wash over her.
The pressure was far greater than when she faced the Zerg Queen’s soul attack.
If Liora was like this, the others’ condition could easily be imagined.
The two Emperors’ bodies trembled violently as their complexions turned pale. Yet neither could take their eyes away from the puzzle, as though they had become completely mesmerized by it.
The Kings and Venerables fared even worse.
Demons like Elaouthr began bleeding from every pore as their auras fluctuated violently. It looked as though their souls were being forcibly dragged from their bodies and they would soon turn into mere physical vessels.
The figure did not attempt to intervene. It allowed everyone to endure the puzzle for several more seconds.
Only when the first demon showed signs of complete collapse did it finally wave its hand.
A gentle power swept throughout the hall. Everyone instantly regained their senses.
At the same time, a warm current flowed into their wounded souls, soothing the damage they had sustained.
Watching the fearful expressions on everyone’s faces, the figure nodded with satisfaction.
“This is the Myriad Dao Board.”
“It was originally a game created by one of our civilization’s apex powerhouses. It is said that he designed it to entertain his children.”
“However, people soon discovered that this seemingly ordinary game possessed extraordinary effects. Among them, one ability stood above all others.”
“This game can measure a person’s comprehension and Dao Heart.”
“You’ve already experienced it yourselves. A single glance is enough to begin tearing your soul apart. Now, imagine solving the entire puzzle while enduring that pain.”
The figure allowed the silence to settle for several seconds. Then, it raised its hands.
“The method to pass this trial and obtain the inheritance is quite simple. All you have to do is solve the game.”
“The first person to do so will inherit everything. As for everyone else…”
The figure did not finish the sentence.
There was no need, as its meaning was obvious.
The moment those words fell, it gave no time for anyone to think. It pointed toward the giant screen behind it.
Immediately, the completed puzzle began coming apart, as though an invisible hand was dismantling it piece by piece.
Soon, the patterns had completely disassembled.
Billions of puzzle pieces floated through the air.
Following another wave of the figure’s hand, they flew toward each challenger, stopping before them.
Then, the figure’s body started becoming transparent, like a candle flame that was about to be extinguished. Moments later, it dispersed completely.
Only its voice lingered throughout the hall.
“The rules are simple.”
“The first to succeed wins. As for whatever happens inside this hall before then…”
“Neither I nor my master care. I shall not intervene in your matters.”
