Chapter 614: "Stolen" Law
Chapter 614: “Stolen” Law
As Liora reached out, the item that had previously been concealed by the formation flew toward her before settling into her palm.
As it rested on top of it, she was finally able to see its true appearance.
It was a sphere.
Made from a peculiar, part brown and part black, wood that she failed to recognize, its surface was covered in intricate patterns that glowed brilliantly and dispersed the surrounding darkness.
Just as Liora moved past its appearance and was about to investigate it further, however, she felt Alice’s struggle suddenly become more intense.
Or rather, her body moved on its own.
A strange expression was written all over her face, one that Liora was somewhat familiar with.
Liora was confused at first.
However, she quickly understood what was happening.
Alice had previously claimed that her true form was actually the inheritance itself rather than her being a puppet.
Since there was nothing else inside this formation, it meant that her true form was the sphere she was currently holding.
In that case, it made sense why she would feel strange to be grabbed and examined this closely.
Although Liora knew of Alice’s grievances, she didn’t stop her examination.
Had it been in the past, she might have pitied this little girl.
However, following their conversation, during which Alice had tried to lay several traps for her, she was no longer as sympathetic to her plight.
Moreover, she strongly suspected that everything was still a ploy, a way to create an opening for her escape.
Ignoring her struggles, Liora shifted her attention back to the sphere, and she began to study it seriously.
Silently, her consciousness reached out and touched the patterns that were carved along its surface.
Almost instantly, a torrent of information poured into Liora’s mind.
Each pattern contained its own information, seemingly a part of a bigger thing.
Like puzzle pieces, the complete content would only be revealed once they had all been examined and digested.
Ordinary people would struggle to do so.
The information contained within a single pattern was massive, enough to keep a Greater Devil occupied for several years.
Thankfully, Liora was no ordinary person. The entire process only took her a couple of seconds.
As the snippets contained within the last pattern were digested, the complete information was revealed before her.
“As expected, it’s the inheritance of a puppet master…”, Liora whispered, having already expected that much from Alice’s earlier words.
Even so, she was faintly surprised.
The inheritance did not explicitly mention how to build puppets or other mechanical creations, but instead focused on the Law of puppetry itself.
Having come into contact with many Laws, Liora should not have been surprised to see this, especially since she had just devoured the Rank 11 Law contained within the Myriad Dao Board.
But in reality, she was.
Not because of the Law itself, but because of the accompanying information.
“According to its creator, this Law can serve as a key. Or rather, like one of the tokens I had previously obtained.”
“With this Law in hand, one can enter the real ancient city, instead of only being able to access the city fragments.”
As Liora read through this information, she came to realize something.
Clearly, the shattering of the ancient city had not been an accident.
Rather, these ancient cultivators had deliberately severed several pieces of it, wanting to use them as testing grounds for later people.
Liora could be certain that at that moment, several other city fragments were also being explored by other beings.
“No wonder there were rumors that everyone who entered the city fragments benefited greatly. Just this Law is enough to create a powerful Awakener.”
“As for it being the key to enter the true ancient city, no one would be stupid enough to reveal it. It makes sense it would be kept a secret.”
Liora could sense that the Law contained within the inheritance was ownerless.
That meant that it wouldn’t require much effort to truly integrate it with oneself.
As long as an Awakener spent some time, they would very quickly reach Rank 10.
Emperor! This gift was enough to create an Emperor!
“It’s highly likely that there are different grades for the inheritances.”
“It’s almost certain that there are lower-ranked inheritances, where the Laws can only allow one to become Venerable.”
“As for whether there are strong ones…”
Liora shook her head.
She had no answer to this at the moment. Even if she were to ask Alice, this Spirit had already displayed that she would not answer.
Realizing this, Liora didn’t go through the effort.
Taking her consciousness back, Liora snapped back to reality.
By now, Alice’s face had turned completely crimson, looking ready to call Liora a “pervert” for having examined her so intently.
Liora ignored her gaze. Staring at the sphere, she looked thoughtful for a few seconds before finally tracing her finger along its surface.
Immediately, a cracking sound echoed.
The sphere seemed to be separated into two.
One part was the mechanical object itself, while the other was something immaterial, similar to an energy yet not one.
As the two parts were divided, Alice no longer had any time to feel embarrassed.
Her entire body began to tremble violently, as though she were suffering a stroke.
Her eyes rolled, revealing their white part as foam started to continuously flow out of her mouth.
Although she didn’t say a single word, it was obvious that she was suffering great pain, enough to make an ordinary person break down.
Fortunately for her, the process lasted only for a split second.
Moments later, Alice’s state turned back to normal.
She showed no change at all compared to before.
If anything, from the blank gaze in her eyes, which made her look somewhat confused, it was relatively clear she had not realized what had just happened.
It was only a while later, when her eyes fell onto the mechanical sphere, and then onto the “energy” beside it, that she realized what was going on.
“You… You!”
“You stole my Law! Give it back! Give it back to me!”
Alice immediately screamed. Her struggle, which had stopped for some time, started once more. This time, it was even more intense.
She waved her arms continuously, her hands turning into claws and trying to attack Liora like a cat.
