Chapter 618: Gathering of Powerhouses
Chapter 618: Gathering of Powerhouses
Given the Cosmic Universe’s vast size and the overwhelming strength of its apex powerhouses, the universe effectively existed in two distinct states.
Most of the time, the universe remained calm, with the apex powerhouses hidden behind the scenes while letting their subordinates work as figureheads in their stead.
Although the war between the four Apex Civilizations never ceased and billions perished each month, such conflicts were considered minor by the standards of the Cosmic Universe.
This relative calm often lasted for millions—or even billions—of years.
The second state was far rarer and could be said to be the world’s “emergency state”.
Once something happened, whether it was a conspiracy of one’s enemies, the unearthing of a treasure, or anything that concerned Ranks 11 or 12, the top powerhouses would immediately spring into action.
At that moment, the readiness displayed by the civilizations would be truly shocking.
One moment, everything would be calm, as though they were a slumbering beast. The next, the entire civilization would be mobilized, with Awakeners rushing everywhere.
This appeared to be the state of the current Human Federation.
The previous war had already made them alert. Now, the new changes had caused even more unrest.
Countless messages were passed down from the higher-ups and even the federation as a whole, with instructions sent down to the lowest-ranked soldier.
These changes all stemmed from Extraterrestrial Battlefield XC33XTI.
And Liora, being in that exact location, immediately noticed their impact…
—
A massive black claw whistled through the air, its four sharp nails shattering the space along its trajectory.
Facing this blow, the army composed of hundreds of World Lord demons could offer no resistance.
Their defenses instantly crumbled.
Their bodies were torn apart by the mere aftermath, broken down to their purest essence and drawn by the black claw toward its owner.
Only a few moments later, the hundreds of Rank 7 beings were nowhere to be seen.
Only Liora remained where they had once stood as the Cosmic Sea within her trembled, working to digest their essence and convert it into nourishment.
Throughout the entire process, Liora didn’t even blink.
She didn’t find killing these demons noteworthy.
What she did find somewhat surprising, however, was something else.
“This is already the 23rd ‘army’ I’ve come across.”
“It’s no wonder that the Human Federation ordered that everyone should remain cautious, going as far as to advise them to evacuate if they are unwilling to stay here any longer.”
“In such a battlefield, a mere World Lord or King will suffer greatly.”
Liora had seen the changes in the extraterrestrial battlefield with her own eyes.
Initially, most of the enemies she encountered were loners like her, who were searching for a city fragment or other precious treasures.
Yet as time went on and these beings received news from their own races, they instinctively began to band together.
By now, even Kings would seldom move alone.
Most likely, they would lead a team of their race members, keeping together for warmth.
The fact that Rank 8 beings were afraid of acting on their own betrayed the danger of the extraterrestrial battlefield.
Moreover, Liora believed this was just the beginning.
“More and more beings have been pouring into Extraterrestrial Battlefield XC33XTI. By now, the number of soldiers has far surpassed that of several galaxy clusters—combined.”
“Since they dare to come here, these beings have to be at least World Lords. A large portion of them are Venerables and Emperors.”
Liora could already imagine the result of this.
Once these teams of World Lords and Kings cooperated to kill the more powerful Venerables, these Venerables would also be forced to team up.
Then in turn, Emperors would start to gather.
Outside this battlefield, this was a tactic that would seldom be used, as a Rank 11 Awakener could simply take action and wipe out all of them in a single move.
But in here, where Awakeners above Rank 10 were forbidden from entry, these teams of Emperors would be invincible.
“It seems that reaching the ancient city is not as easy as it seems. Moreover, the eventual battle will be extremely fierce.”, Liora concluded.
Just as she waved her hand, erasing the traces of the earlier slaughter and preparing to resume her journey, a chime echoed within her mind.
It was a messaging device.
Surprisingly, it did not belong to the humans. Rather, it came from one of Liora’s many victims within the city fragment.
Liora’s eyes narrowed.
With curiosity, she disguised her aura according to the device’s original owner and poured her consciousness into it.
Instantly, a message rang directly within her mind.
“Request for assistance at coordinates X: 28769867,3346 Y: 5465,284!”
“Every nearby race member is ordered to rush here!”
A soft voice echoed.
Liora had no time to respond to the message.
The next moment, the voice repeated the exact same words as though it were a recording.
Seeing this, Liora understood that this message was not sent to her—or rather, to the original owner of this device.
Just like the message she had received previously within the Information World, this was a large-scale message.
Anyone near the stated coordinates would receive it.
Realizing this, Liora only hesitated for a brief moment.
Then, she turned around and shot forward.
While on the way, her body rapidly transformed, gaining some nonhuman characteristics.
—
As expected, a few light-years away, a fierce battle was going on.
Liora’s guess that the battlefield would escalate had been proven.
Both teams had several Venerables dictating the war zone.
On one side were humans. On the other, Zerg.
Every Zerg Queen was already considered an army of her own.
Now that dozens had gathered together, the outcome could already be imagined.
Thousands of Zerg Servants charged recklessly towards their opponents, while the Zerg Queens’ soul attacks rendered them unable to fight back.
Although the Zerg Queen had sent a summoning call, it was clear they were in control of the battlefield.
Humans constantly collapsed, torn apart by the insect claws of the Zerg Servants.
On the other hand, they, the Zerg Queens, suffered no damage at all.
Even the Zerg Servants fared well.
Every time one of them perished, a Zerg Queen would immediately give birth to its replacement, keeping their numbers exactly the same.
Slowly but surely, the human soldiers started to fall, their blood dyeing the endless void crimson.
As Liora arrived at the battlefield, this was the scene she came face to face with…
