Several minutes later, Liora slowly walked out of the courtyard, watching as the gap in the formation behind her rapidly closed.

Unlike the excitement Rex had displayed earlier, imagining the many treasures inside, Liora’s face was filled with disgust.

Her mind was full of complaints.

“They are both purple tokens. Even if the items inside weren’t as valuable as those of the Heavenly Armor Pavilion, they should at least be somewhat similar.”

“How come everything inside is worthless? Was the original owner a pauper?”, she cursed, her contempt toward the courtyard’s owner clear.

But this was only natural.

The so-called inheritance they had left behind was not any better than the first courtyard she and Elaouthr had entered, with only a few weapons and jade slips left behind.

Taoist Everflow’s courtyard at least led toward the Heavenly Armor Pavilion.

This courtyard… was absolutely worthless.

Liora repeatedly shook her head, her eyes filled with disappointment.

Ultimately, though, even if she was saddened not to have obtained anything within the courtyard, her gains were already substantial enough.

The Immortal Token that Rex possessed was more than worth her trip.

Thinking of this, Liora’s consciousness descended into the Cosmic Sea, and her gaze settled on the token.

Having fused with its third part, the weapon prototype’s extraordinary nature had grown even more apparent.

The crimson color along its surface had deepened even further.

Through a quick scan, Liora judged that its power had increased by more than ten percent.

This appeared to be a small enhancement, barely worth her effort.

However, one had to take into account her current level and the effort required to improve any further.

For the current Liora, hunting a single Rank 10 demon was extremely easy. On the other hand, improving her strength further was extremely difficult.

Even if she could use the Cosmic Sea to devour external energy and concepts, it would have taken her a long time to increase her strength by a similar percentage.

This alone was enough to demonstrate the Immortal Token’s value.

With that thought, Liora circulated the technique taught to her by Alice.

She watched calmly as an illusory map materialized in her mind, its lights scattered across a radius of several light-years.

Then, she didn’t waste much time.

After selecting the closest token, she transformed into a stream of light and disappeared into the horizon.

Only a few hours had passed since the barrier enveloping the ancient city shattered.

Initially, many of the Emperors gathered here had made the same decision:

Knowing that their strength was not high enough to compete for the real inheritance, they had chosen to stay near the outskirts, searching for inheritances in the “ordinary” courtyards and shops.

Yet something quickly became evident to everyone.

The city’s outskirts were far less safe than anyone had imagined.

In just a few short hours, dozens of Emperors had perished.

What made everyone feel apprehensive was that all these beings had left little information.

The messages they left before their death only made the situation even more complicated.

Some died at the hands of humans, others at the hands of Zerg.

Mechanical beings, demons, and members of the other races had also joined the hunt, killing many of their enemies.

Even the city itself and its formations had slain a lot of people.

In short, everyone seemed to have gone crazy. They hunted each other down, seemingly unafraid of the consequences those actions would cause.

“Liora, you should also be careful. I don’t know what’s in everyone’s mind.”

“Wouldn’t it be smarter to simply search for an inheritance to improve our strength?”

“Why fight among each other when the final inheritance will be none of our business no matter what?”

Liora heard a sigh in the other person’s voice, as though he truly could not understand what was happening.

This man was another human Emperor, someone Liora had encountered once over the past few hours and with whom she had exchanged their communication information.

He had called to inform her of the recent changes, asking her to be cautious.

His intentions were genuine. After adding a few more words, he severed the connection.

As the voice lingered in her ears, Liora’s expression appeared thoughtful.

“As expected…”

“It seems that my hunting of the Emperors has already been brought to light.”

According to the human Emperor, most people had decided to team up with their respective race members, afraid that they would be next.

Although Liora knew this, she didn’t feel much disappointment.

To be honest, it had taken longer than expected for them to discover it.

Moreover, the fact that no one suspected her proved that disguising herself had been the right decision.

Everyone simply thought that people had become greedy. No one guessed that behind everything was a single person.

“Fortunately, I’ve already gathered most of the Immortal Tokens near the outskirts. After all, those possessing them are either lucky and weak, or powerful and daring. Most are the latter.”

“It’s time to venture deeper into the city.”, Liora decided as her consciousness landed on the token and witnessed its soaring power.

Just as she was about to take her consciousness back, however, her movements suddenly halted.

Her gaze subconsciously moved toward one of the many worlds within the Cosmic Sea.

It was ordinary, without any defining characteristics.

Yet there, an aura was soaring toward the sky.

An aura that Liora was very familiar with.
