Chapter 645: Conspiracy
Chapter 645: Conspiracy
The impact of the War God’s words was truly massive, felt by nearly every Emperor in the entire Cosmic Universe.
If one had to say who the person least impacted by this news was, it would be the woman who started this all.
Liora.
Standing on the second floor of the Heavenly Armor Pavilion, Liora had to face neither the ancient powerhouses in the city nor the impact of the Mechanical Race’s betrayal.
Despite this, she could guess some things. She looked thoughtful.
There was something she hadn’t told the War God. The identity of what could very well become another traitor.
She hesitated whether to tell it too.
However, she ultimately shook her head.
“There is no reason to point it out at the moment. Perhaps, this is finally an opportunity to deal with that lingering… problem.”, she whispered, her face breaking into a smile.
Then, she no longer lingered.
Summoning the Immortal Token, she swept it across the fragile space in front of her.
With a tearing sound, the space shattered into countless fragments. An entire world appeared to exist on the other side, peeking through the opening.
Seeing this, Liora stepped inside without any hesitation.
The world around her rapidly shifted.
The dark void that had surrounded her for so long disappeared.
In its place… was an entire demi-plane. Or rather, an entire secret realm.
—
Loud voices echoed in Liora’s ears.
What entered her eyes was neither a dark void nor a floor that could be explained through the Heavenly Armor Pavilion’s identity as a shop.
Not even the many practice rooms she had seen in the city fragment could be seen.
What Liora saw was a giant city of uneven and complicated structures.
Aside from its reduced size, it very much resembled the ancient city in the outside world, as though someone had copied it.
However, there were also key differences.
For example, this city’s buildings were uniform, with neither pavilions nor courtyards being found among them.
Another difference, and perhaps the most important one, was that the city was full of people!
Yes!
The moment Liora entered the “third floor”, the thing that caught her off guard was the sheer number of people.
Thousands. Tens of thousands. Perhaps even more!
Humans in ancient attire could be seen everywhere, flying from building to building atop swords and other weapons. It looked like a scene straight out of a novel or movie rather than reality.
Even Liora, who had already seen this in the remnant soul’s memories and had expected it, was surprised.
After all, learning about a thing and seeing it with one’s own eyes was a completely different matter.
It took her several seconds to snap back to reality.
Once she did, her eyes subconsciously turned sharper.
She immediately came to notice that all these people were rushing from building to building, as though preparing for something important.
As for what that “something” was, she had no idea.
However, the city’s identity let her make an educated guess.
According to the remnant soul’s memories, this was a military stronghold.
And all these people were not carefree cultivators, but mighty soldiers!
“Is this one of the most crucial backups the cultivation civilization left behind?”, Liora muttered, feeling it was both expected and not.
Expected because clues about this had already been discovered.
Unexpected because of the so-called backup’s actual power.
Each of these cultivators was at least a World Lord.
Thousands were Venerables. Hundreds were Emperors.
Such a force was terrifying, higher than the strength displayed by every one of the Apex Civilizations.
Combined with the Mechanical Race’s betrayal…
Liora shook her head.
It seemed that the plan of these ancient beings was not as simple as reclaiming a territory for themselves and reemerging in the present Era.
It was more likely that they wished to completely overturn the Cosmic Universe’s structure, becoming its new overlords.
Countless thoughts raced through Liora’s mind. However, she didn’t waste much time.
She had already erected several concealment barriers around her the moment she had landed, slipping into a deeper and more hidden space.
With her strength, even Rank 12 Awakeners would find it difficult to detect her.
With such insurance, she felt confident enough to further investigate this place.
Pressed for time, she didn’t try to do so by visiting what appeared to be the soldiers’ residences.
Rather, she rushed straight toward the barracks’ center, where the most powerful auras were concentrated.
Likewise, it was also where the city’s most imposing building was located. An enormous golden palace.
—
The palace’s structure was quite familiar.
It very much resembled the City Lord’s palace Liora had visited in the past, albeit it was several times more vast.
More importantly, unlike the dead palace that only housed Alice and the lifeless knight puppets, this one was full of life.
Guards were patrolling the perimeter. People were rushing in and out of it. Voices echoed from inside.
Like the rest of the city, the palace looked fully inhabited rather than the desolate place that was the actual cultivation city.
It was a surreal experience for Liora. The sudden change from absolute desolation to a bustling city rendered her speechless.
Still, this rapid shift didn’t lessen her interest in the slightest. If anything, it made it even more intense.
For a moment, she didn’t even care whether the final inheritance all Emperors were after was true or not.
She was more interested in uncovering the plans of these ancient cultivators.
… And how she could use it to her benefit.
With that thought, Liora approached the golden palace, strengthening her own concealment abilities in the meantime.
She proceeded in a somewhat unexpected but familiar manner.
Locating a lone guard, she knocked her unconscious and used her abilities to replace her. With the Cultivation Star to mimic the ancient aura, doing so was relatively easy.
As she looked down at herself and the ancient robe that perfectly matched the surrounding cultivators, Liora nodded her head in satisfaction.
Then, without any hesitation, she stepped into the palace.
The moment she crossed the palace’s threshold, Liora finally discovered the source of the overwhelming aura everyone had sensed since the pavilion first appeared.
