Chapter 644: Betrayal
Chapter 644: Betrayal
The methods used to stop the War God’s blow differed.
Spells. Weapons. Even barriers materialized in order to stop him.
No matter what their form was, however, they were all means rare in the current Cosmic Universe. Although they existed, one would seldom find them being used.
Combined with the aura these figures exuded and their hermit-like appearances, their true identity became apparent.
“Beings from previous Eras!”, the War God couldn’t help but exclaim, the surprise in his voice abundantly clear.
Although Liora had previously mentioned that this was the case, he was still shocked upon personally confirming it.
At the same time, he felt a chill run down his spine.
If they hadn’t learned of these people’s true conspiracy, the Human Federation and the Cosmic Universe as a whole would have suffered greatly.
Glancing at the dozens of Rank 10 Emperors with an ancient aura that could contend with his, the War God was about to launch another barrage of attacks.
But just then, several figures appeared.
This time, their auras were familiar, as was their appearance.
Zerg. Demons.
Standing not far away from the War God, placing the ancient beings between them, they frowned.
“What’s going on? How could so many ancient beings suddenly appear?”, the Cosmos Emperor, a Rank 10 demon, questioned, his words obviously addressed to the War God.
He was the one who had just taken action after all. If there was anyone here who could answer that question, it would be him.
Indeed. Faced with the Cosmos Emperor’s questioning, the War God didn’t choose to keep things a secret.
This matter did not only involve the Human Race. Everyone in the Cosmic Universe ought to be a part of it.
“You should have already seen it. These beings are survivors of the previous Era.”
“I don’t know what method they used to maintain their power till now. However, just this makes it obvious that their survival was not a coincidence.”
As he spoke, the War God stared at the unknown figures for several moments. Then, he shifted his attention toward outside the city, where the humans and the Mechanical Race were currently fighting.
Although it was a large-scale battle, with everyone using their respective means, the two sides were in a stalemate. No one had been injured, much less suffered.
Once one reached their level, it was hard to decide the winner.
The War God continued:
“A human Emperor inside the pavilion made a shocking discovery. It seems that these beings have been preparing for our arrival for a very long time.”
“The entire city is under their control.”
“I suspect that even the barrier that required the sacrifice of so many people was part of their conspiracy, all in an effort to gather more energy for their awakening.”
In response to this answer, neither the Cosmos Emperor nor the Heaven Emperor showed any surprise.
This was something all the Apex Civilizations had anticipated.
How could the ancient city appear without a reason all of a sudden?
They had known someone was controlling it long ago.
The reason they dared to come was not that they were foolish, but because they were confident in their strength.
How many people had tried to conspire against the Apex Civilizations? Yet no matter who they were, what their background was, or what their Era was like, they all had met the same ending.
The Cosmic Universe belonged to the powerhouses of the present Era! No one could stop their rise!
The War God saw their reactions but wasn’t surprised. Humans had made that connection long ago as well.
However, things didn’t end there.
“I know what you’re thinking. Faced with the survivors of the previous Eras, we’ve long had an agreement to cooperate and prevent their emergence.”
“With the four civilizations working together, we indeed have no reason to fear these people’s methods.”
“However…”
The War God paused, his eyes growing sharper.
“What if one of the four Apex Civilizations has decided to betray the Cosmic Universe and cooperates with them instead?”
The moment his words fell, the expressions of all Emperors present shifted.
The War God didn’t explicitly state who the “traitor” could be.
But based on the humans’ sudden outburst and the events of the Heavenly Armor Pavilion, they knew very well who the most probable suspect was.
The Cosmos Emperor and Heaven Emperor looked shocked. They glanced at the ancient beings and then at the Mechanical Race, somewhat unwilling to believe it.
“War God, there is no need to make such accusations without any evidence. How about we all work together to capture these beings first?”, the Heaven Emperor suddenly proposed, looking for peace.
“As long as we search through their memories, the truth will come to light.”
His words seemed good-natured, as though he was unwilling to have a conflict with the Mechanical Race without any evidence.
Yet what met his words was a barrage of attacks.
Similarly to the native Emperors, the ancient cultivators had also been listening to the War God’s words.
Their reaction, however, was far more violent.
Instantly, several blows were unleashed, targeting all the Emperors surrounding them. They didn’t spare the demons or the Zerg, making it clear they were targeting them too.
At the same time, the Mechanical Emperors outside the city increased the force behind their attacks.
As though they were parts of a giant machine, their bodies fused together, forming an enormous mecha.
Even though they were individually weaker than their opponents, the created amalgamation instantly suppressed the group of human Awakeners.
Chaos instantly spread. The reaction of these forces had already revealed everything:
The Mechanical Race had truly betrayed the Cosmic Universe, siding with the ancient civilization.
The impact of such information could not possibly be contained here.
Using whatever means they had, all the powerhouses spread the news to the higher-ups.
As a result, the chaos intensified even further.
Not only in the ancient city, but in the Cosmic Universe as well. The already fragile situation between the warring civilizations deteriorated even further.
