Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 706: Witness

Chapter 706: Witness

Hermes was stunned.

Not only because someone had managed to approach him without him realizing, but also because of the contents of their words.

Veythalis World.

Age of Creation. Age of Chaos. Age of Magic.

He had never heard of these terms before. But for some reason, he felt as though they pointed directly to the true nature of this world.

Hermes hurriedly turned around.

A woman entered his sight.

With white hair and a pair of pale eyes, she looked strangely divine, as though she had descended from the Divine Plane.

She held a thick tome in one hand, while the other held a quill, writing elegantly on one of the pages.

Hermes’ expression shifted. He couldn’t sense any aura from the woman before him.

It was as if he were facing an ordinary person.

However, how could someone who had reached this place possibly be a mortal?

Sensing her divine demeanor, which made him feel as though he were facing the world itself, and remembering the rumors he had heard in the past, Hermes couldn’t help but think of those divine creatures now hidden outside the Mortal Plane.

“Your Excellency,” he greeted respectfully while runes flashed along the tower, ready to defend himself.

“Are you a member of the Dragon Race? Why have you come here today?”

Dragon Race!

A race that had long since been lost in the annals of history. At the very least, that was what ordinary people believed.

For high-level Mages like him, though, it was clear that these creatures had not disappeared.

They had merely hidden themselves. They were still controlling the course of the Mortal Plane secretly!

Now, faced with this white-haired woman, this divine race was the only thing Hermes could think of.

Ysset didn’t respond to his question. She continued writing solemnly for several seconds, only stopping after putting down a period.

The tome in her hand closed on its own. As its pages flipped, densely packed text could be seen on them.

Upon taking a mere glimpse at it, scenes of ancient times flashed through Hermes’ eyes. He became engrossed in the past.

It was only when Ysset spoke that he was forcefully brought back to reality.

“I’m not a member of the Dragon Race.” Ysset shook her head and said softly.

“I’m here under the orders of my Lord. If you have to give me a name, you can call me Witness…”

“I’ve come. I’ve seen. I’ve recorded.”

Ysset’s voice trailed off near the end, becoming inexplicably ethereal.

Before Hermes could say anything, she continued.

“My Lord has been pleased with your achievements. Besides sending me to record the change of times, they also ordered me to bring you this.”

Ysset waved her hand.

A massive skeleton immediately materialized in the room.

It appeared to have been compressed, as though the space around it had been shrunk down using extraordinary power.

If it were able to regain its true size, Hermes had the feeling that it would be bigger than the human kingdom itself.

He recognized the skeleton’s owner.

It belonged to a Dragon!

And, judging from the golden bones and ancient aura remaining on them, it was obvious that it was an ancient Dragon! Even stronger than beings who had just lit the Divine Fire!

“This is my Lord’s gift. It can be seen as both a blessing and a curse.”

“What you achieve will depend on you…”

Ysset’s words snapped Hermes out of his stupor. He wanted to ask something, to question what these words meant, but before he could react, Ysset suddenly changed.

Golden light burst out from her figure. When it faded away a second later, she had vanished.

Throughout the entire process, Hermes had been unable to trace her movements, much less stop her.

This let him know how terrifying the woman was. If such a being truly wanted to kill him, he would have no chance to resist.

A chill ran down his spine. His resolve to become stronger grew.

It took him several minutes before he regained his composure.

As Hermes stared at the Dragon’s corpse, a newfound determination flashed within his eyes.

“Master, I have carried out your orders.” Ysset’s voice echoed in a large hall.

Liora did not need her reminder.

The world had been built based on her Kingdom of God. Within it, she could manipulate anything, much less know what had happened.

Even so, looking at Ysset and sensing her increasingly ethereal aura, she couldn’t help but nod in satisfaction.

Ysset’s strength had not increased, but her aura had become more elusive and mysterious. This was the result of bearing the role of the “Witness”.

The more events she recorded, the more mysterious her aura would become. Until finally, she became a true Witness of times!

“For the next period of time, you shall stay here and continue recording the world’s history.”

“You don’t need to do anything else. Unless I ask you to, you shouldn’t interfere with the matters of the Mortal Plane.”

A trace of surprise flashed across the white dragon’s eyes. Ysset had originally believed that her master had asked her to take this role so that she could assist humanity.

The gift of the Dragon’s skeleton to Hermes only further reinforced that idea.

Now, however, she was being told that this was not the reason?

Ysset found it difficult to believe.

Liora sighed when she saw Ysset’s reaction.

She couldn’t possibly tell her that the Magic Network had greatly stabilized the Mortal Plane, allowing it to take another step forward on the path to growing stronger.

Liora had a hunch that as long as the Magic Network was perfected, the Mortal Plane would ascend in dimension.

At that time, giving birth to a large number of Gods was certain. By then, the desolate Divine Plane would finally gain some new residents.

As for giving Hermes the skeleton?

“I’ve already asked you to warn him. That thing is both a blessing and a curse. This is not a lie.”

“The result will depend entirely on his own choices.”

“Whether he can take that opportunity to become the first God or perish under the weight of his mission, fate shall decide.”

Liora’s eyes became increasingly profound as she spoke.

Staring into those bottomless eyes, Ysset couldn’t help but feel her heart tremble.

Liora had always been terrifying to her. But since the two met again a year ago and she let her enter the Cosmic Universe, that had only become even more obvious.

Standing before her, Ysset felt that she had no secrets. It was as though Liora was all-knowing. Omniscient.

Such a feeling made Ysset tremble with fear. At the same time, however, it also gave birth to unending admiration.

“My master is so powerful…” she whispered inwardly, her eyes flashing with undisguised adoration.
