Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 723: Tribulation

Chapter 723: Tribulation

Her gaze pierced through the Cosmic Universe’s membrane and moved outside.

It landed on the three—or four, including herself—beings.

Then, it shifted toward the crimson cloud towering above them.

“Tribulation!” she whispered, a term both familiar and unfamiliar to her.

It was familiar because every Ancient Devil had to experience it once in a while so that they could continue their lives. It could be said to be a restriction placed by the Demon World.

It was unfamiliar because, despite being an Ancient Devil herself, it was the first time she had witnessed it.

She had already prepared herself.

Yet even with that preparation and Liora’s ability to retain her composure, she felt a shiver run down her spine.

The Tribulation was too powerful!

She could be certain that even if she were to step into it, she would likely perish by the end!

Not only the “present” her, but the imprints she had left along the River of Time as well. Struck by the black lightning, everything about her would be destroyed!

Under its might, a weaker Ancient Devil would die instantly! Even Antiquity Devils would face the same fate.

“No wonder the Hollow Ancestor was so desperate in the Demon World, setting up an entire scheme to kill me and the Four Elements Devil.”

“It was not only because he wanted to increase his strength.”

“He was about to experience a Tribulation! One he knew he could not possibly survive!”

The Hollow Ancestor had lived for an unknown amount of time. It was at least millions of years.

Therefore, it made sense that his Tribulation would be terrifying.

Likewise, this also explained why he had taken the risk of suffering backlash from the River of Time to try and possess the Cosmic Universe.

It was because he was truly desperate! If he hadn’t done so, he might have already perished under the Tribulation long ago!

“The method he used to conceal his Ancient Devil aura would never have worked without the layer of the Cosmic Universe’s identity.”

“The Demon World would have sensed him long ago. It’s only because his will has integrated with the Will of the Cosmic Universe that he has lived for so long.”

At that moment, Liora understood everything.

Although she had already made guesses beforehand, she had now confirmed most of them.

However, she didn’t have much time to contemplate these thoughts.

The entire Cosmic Universe was shaking violently.

If someone didn’t step forward to save it, it would soon die. Countless creatures would perish alongside it, as would their entire civilizations.

Fortunately, Liora was here.

Although she could not withstand the Tribulation head-on, defending against its aftermath was possible and easy to do.

Even… she could use it to her advantage.

With that thought, her demonic energy boiled.

A gluttonous Devil mask appeared on her face, terrifying yet equally beautiful.

With a wave of Liora’s hands, countless whirlpools formed along the membrane of the Cosmic Universe, dense like parts of a honeycomb.

As they revolved, a large devouring force was created it.

The black lightning that escaped the “battle” and rushed toward the Cosmic Universe was instantly swallowed up.

From here, Liora could choose to disperse it back into the Origin Sea or even store it away.

However, she didn’t.

Her eyes flashed. She knew this was a rare opportunity.

Without any hesitation, she urged the Gluttony Avatar to transfer these black lightning strikes into her body.

As they were drawn back to her, they instantly lashed out, striking everything within her.

Part of her body melted.

Yet as silver runes flashed, the missing parts rapidly regenerated, as though time had turned back.

Although her body melted again only a few moments after, the same silver runes flashed and helped her recover.

Perhaps because her physique was being tempered, the time it took the lightning to destroy her body became longer and longer.

Soon, the black lightning and her reached a temporary stalemate.

The Cosmic Universe regained its “peace.”

The only one who had to suffer to protect it was Liora.

Of course, she was far from the person affected by the black lightning the most.

Outside the Cosmic Universe, the screams of three people had never ended. The wailing cries alone carried extraordinary power.

Had it not been for Liora’s protection, many creatures within the Cosmic Universe would have exploded, turning into blood mist!

Under such a condition, time slowly passed.

Seconds turned into minutes. Minutes turned into hours.

The black lightning in the outside world seemed unending, as though it would not rest until the three beings who had offended it perished under its wrath!

This was the power of the Demon World!

A world that could allow the birth of Princesses of the Demon World and could sustain beings beyond that!

An apex world!

Even the complete Cosmic Universe was nothing before it, much less now that it had been divided into three parts.

This was further demonstrated not long after.

Much to everyone’s shock, a wailing cry echoed throughout the Cosmic Universe.

The space cracked. Blood rained down from the sky, dyeing countless galaxies and planets crimson.

No one paid any attention to these phenomena. They had no time to do so.

As the crimson droplets streaked through the sky, a powerful emotion had arisen in their hearts.

Sorrow.

Every being felt an incredible amount of sorrow, as though they had watched their own parents die in front of them.

The weakest among them did not realize where that feeling came from.

The Zerg Hive and the Demon Sovereign were among the few that did.

Terror flashed across their faces. They recognized what the blood rain represented.

The Will of the Cosmic Universe was dead!

“The world has changed!”

Before the Zerg Hive could finish that thought, the blood rain suddenly disappeared. Space returned to normal.

Moments later, the entire universe cheered loudly, welcoming its new master!

A new Will of the Cosmic Universe had been born!

Yet even that phenomenon didn’t last long either.

Soon, another blood rain emerged.

The new Will of the Cosmic Universe was dead!

Again!
