Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 732: Hermes' Decision

Chapter 732: Hermes’ Decision

Blood flowed everywhere, while corpses of humans and enormous divine creatures littered the ground.

Various powers permeated this place, clashing invisibly like two distinct armies.

Everything showed that a terrifying battle had broken out in the valley.

The participants were as clear.

On one side stood the recently emerging human race. On the other side were the oldest creatures and the ancient rulers of the Veythalis World—the Dragon.

These two forces, one that had ruled the world in ancient times and one that wished to rule it in the Age of Magic, had naturally clashed.

On one of the valley’s hills, a man could be seen with his back against a stone, impaled by a giant golden spear that held him in place.

Hermes couldn’t help but feel the fresh blood trickle down his lips, sensing the destructive power spreading through his body, threatening to extinguish his vitality.

Even the Divine Fire supporting him, which should have been indestructible and burned eternally, showed signs of fading away.

His own injuries weren’t what troubled Hermes the most, however.

When he raised his head, his face twisted with guilt and fury.

Everywhere he looked were human corpses.

These people, who had been infused with Dragon bloodline and had also become Demigods, faced the same situation as him.

Some struggled stubbornly. Others were already dead.

As for the reason…

Hermes looked toward the sky.

Two giant faces were etched across it.

One was golden and full of holiness, while the other was black, representing destruction and chaos.

Hermes recognized them immediately.

The two dragon races that had clashed at the creation of the world.

Now, these two mortal enemies had actually appeared in the same place. Not to fight one another, but to cooperate and suppress the human race.

Hermes showed a complicated expression.

He didn’t feel that his decision to hunt down dragons had been wrong.

Given another opportunity, he would have chosen to do the exact same thing.

After all, humanity’s rise was bound to clash with the other races and even the dragons themselves. It was only a matter of time before they attracted enough attention.

What Hermes regretted was not being more powerful!

If that had been the case, perhaps today’s battle would have had a different outcome.

Countless thoughts raced through Hermes’ mind.

In the sky, the two Dragon leaders did not know his thoughts, nor did they care enough to investigate.

At the moment, they were preoccupied with deciding what they were going to do next.

“Kill! Every human should be killed!”

“They dare to hunt down our descendants today! What is stopping them from doing the same tomorrow?”

“How long till they set their eyes on us too?” the Destruction Dragon spoke fiercely, murderous intent and chaos flashing across its pitch-black pupils.

On the other side, the Golden Dragon held a different opinion.

“Every race has a reason to exist. The human race must be the same. Killing them all will break the stability of the Mortal Plane.”

“As the first beings born during creation, we should take the well-being of the world into consideration.”

“Even if we want to suppress the human race, we should still leave a kindling of fire behind. With this lesson, they will surely never dare to oppose us in the future.”

Their opinions clashed.

One wanted to destroy the human race. The other wanted to leave a few humans alive to retain the stability of the Veythalis World.

Their opinions showcased their nature.

Evil Dragons were not necessarily evil, but were geared toward destruction and chaos.

On the other hand, Lawful Dragons were not necessarily kind, but were geared toward creation and life.

It made sense they had always competed. It could be said that they were fundamentally different.

No matter what their opinions were, though, the result was roughly the same.

Today, the human race would be on the verge of extermination!

Even if a few of them survived, they would become the weakest race, perhaps forced to become slaves of other races to survive.

Hearing their conversation, the remaining humans caught in battle despaired.

The one who had it the worst was none other than Hermes.

He stared at the two Dragons in the sky, then at the humans who were continuously being defeated even without the Dragon leaders’ involvement.

Then, he raised his head and looked at the azure web spreading throughout the Mortal Plane.

Other people, including the most powerful Demigods, could not see it.

But he, as its creator, could see the Magic Network clearly.

As such, he also knew some things that even the oldest beings did not.

“The world is not truly ‘complete’ just yet. Every action, every movement of living beings can help it become more complete.”

“The Magic Network achieved that in the past, which is why I was able to get the Witness’s attention.”

“Now…”

Hermes looked around him.

He had a hunch that a white-haired woman was perhaps watching everything that was happening and recording it silently.

After all, it could be said that today’s outcome was something the Witness, or rather her Lord, had expected when giving him the Dragon corpse.

Hermes seemed to have reached a realization.

“I see… I see…” he muttered in a low voice and chuckled before bursting into full-blown laughter.

As a Demigod, and one of the strongest beings at that stage, Hermes’ strength was obvious to all.

His laughter quickly spread through the battlefield, making Dragons and humans wonder if he had been driven mad.

The two Dragon leaders had the same reaction.

Until…

A powerful force arose from Hermes’ body.

To everyone’s shock, the sacred artifact restraining his movements suddenly fell to the ground.

Hermes’ injuries did not get any better. If anything, they grew even more serious.

He didn’t care.

Hermes stared toward the sky and slowly opened his mouth to speak.

“In the past, I established the Magic Network, giving weak creatures all over the world a chance to grow stronger and enter the realm of the divine.”

“Now, I wish to help the creatures of this world once more.”

He paused briefly.

“Throughout the Mortal Plane, millions of creatures die every day. Their souls either disperse or remain in the Mortal Plane in the form of evil spirits.”

“Today, I wish to give these poor souls a home, strengthening the stability of the Veythalis World in the process.”

“I ask the permission of Witness and the Dragon of Creation to do so…”

Hermes’ voice could only be heard in the valley at first, but soon spread throughout the Mortal Plane.

Every being in the Mortal Plane heard it clearly, whether they were powerful Mages and Warriors or ordinary people.

No one understood what was happening—save for the Demigods, who had been paying attention to the battle.

Still, only ones who actually knew the truth were the two Dragon leaders.

The two had completely opposite reactions.

The Evil Dragon wanted to strike at Hermes and stop him from succeeding in his attempt. Meanwhile, the Lawful Dragon wanted to help him.

Soon, however, the two realized that their opinions and actions didn’t really matter.

When the Evil Dragon’s claw drew closer to Hermes and was about to reap his life, it instantly vanished under the influence of an inexplicable power.

For a moment, it seemed as though the Will of the World had descended into this place and was paying attention to them.

Before they could process what this meant, a single word echoed in their ears.

“Allow!”
