Chapter 1064: Success
Chapter 1064: Success
A tall boy stood up. Compared to the others, he appeared unusually calm. The moment his hands touched the orb, silver light erupted again.
The classroom instantly straightened.
"It happened again!"
Inside the orb, silver currents swirled rapidly. Then an image appeared. A long wand, floating above Ethan's right hand. Several water orbs revolved around it.
The teacher's eyes brightened.
"Water Mage class."
The classroom exploded once more.
A second awakener. Ethan himself looked stunned. Unlike Adrian, who had appeared overjoyed, Ethan simply stared blankly at the floating wand.
The teacher smiled.
"Congratulations."
The young man nodded mechanically before moving to stand beside Adrian.
Two awakeners. Out of twenty students. The ratio wasn't terrible. But it wasn't good either.
Unfortunately for everyone else, luck seemed to run out immediately afterward. The next student failed. Then another. And another. The classroom became increasingly silent. The pressure continued to build.
Eventually the teacher glanced down at her list again. Then called the next name.
"Lily…"
The moment the words left her mouth, every eye in the classroom turned toward Lily. Including Adrian, Ethan, and the teacher herself. After all, whether they admitted it or not, everyone was curious.
This was Lily. Michael Norman's cousin. The sixteen-year-old Knight. Many wondered if she'd awaken a class.
Lily slowly stood. Her heartbeat thundered inside her chest.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Taking a deep breath, Lily walked toward the Awakening Orb. The entire classroom watched her approach. Soon she stopped before the sphere. The orb reflected her face.
For a brief moment, silence completely consumed the room.
Then Lily slowly raised both hands. And placed them against the orb.
Outside the school grounds, Michael, who had also been paying attention, swept away his lazy expression and grew more alert.
However, before he could continue, a sharp pain flared across the surface of his palm, and the mark of origin appeared before vanishing again.
If not for the pain, it would have seemed like an illusion.
Michael didn't seem particularly surprised, though. This situation was strange, but it wasn't the first time it had happened.
The earliest instance had been two months ago. Michael hadn't expected a second occurrence to show up today.
"What's actually happening? Should I just ask the Origin Will?"
Remembering the effect of a certain title of his, Michael was tempted, but soon shook the idea from his mind.
Not only had this strange thing happened to him, but for some reason it had appeared to a large number of fellow awakeners as well.
When the signs had first appeared, since they were tied to the mark of origin, Michael had immediately logged into his Supers Association forum account to see if he could find anything, only to realize the signs had already been appearing on others a few days before his own.
Unfortunately, no one had any explanation to give.
Still worried, Michael had sought out the directors at his academy, only to discover that some of them had experienced the same signs. Unfortunately, like him, they had no explanation either.
It had been a troubling issue at first, but it was soon forgotten and pushed to the back of many people's minds once the situation didn't repeat itself and everything seemed fine again.
"For something that's probably affecting all awakeners, I doubt the Origin Will would even answer me. Since I only have a chance of being answered in the first place, not a guarantee, there's no reason to waste it."
Michael thought, when suddenly something caught his attention.
"Huh?!"
Back in the classroom, Lily remained completely still. Both hands rested against the surface of the Awakening Orb.
The entire classroom watched.
One second passed. Then two. Then five.
Nothing happened.
The orb remained completely silent. A few students subconsciously relaxed. Some looked disappointed. Others weren't surprised. After all, this was the reality of awakening.
Even with Lily's reputation, there was no guarantee she would succeed.
The teacher's expression remained calm. She had conducted enough ceremonies to know that expectations of personal power meant very little before the orb.
Thirty seconds passed. Still nothing.
Lily's heart slowly sank. Had she failed? Though Michael's words echoed in her mind, disappointment still began creeping into her chest.
The classroom grew increasingly quiet. Even Adrian and Ethan exchanged glances.
The teacher finally sighed inwardly. It seemed this was the result.
"Alright, Lily. You can ret—"
She never finished her sentence.
The Awakening Orb suddenly trembled. A faint pulse spread through the room. Everyone froze.
The teacher's eyes widened.
Then the orb erupted.
A brilliant emerald light exploded from its surface.
"W-What?!"
The classroom instantly erupted into chaos. Unlike the previous awakenings, the light did not remain confined to the orb. Instead, countless green particles spread outward like fireflies.
Leaves began materializing from thin air. Vines. Flowers. Tiny motes of life energy. The entire classroom was suddenly filled with the scent of forests and fresh rain.
Several students stared in disbelief. Some of the flowers even bloomed before their eyes.
At the center of everything stood Lily. The emerald light gathered behind her. Slowly. Gradually. A translucent image began taking shape.
First came roots. Then branches. Then a massive ancient tree appeared behind her, its canopy stretching toward the ceiling.
At the same time, countless vines wrapped around Lily's arms and shoulders like living ornaments. Several glowing butterflies landed upon the branches.
The scene looked beautiful. Almost sacred.
The teacher completely forgot her professional composure.
"Druid…"
Her voice barely escaped her lips.
The image behind Lily became clearer. The ancient tree radiated vitality. The butterflies danced. The flowers bloomed. Life energy filled every corner of the room.
Then blue panels appeared before Lily's eyes.
[Awakening Successful.] [Class Obtained: Druid] [Skills Acquired.] [Nature Sense Lv1] [Spirit Bond Lv1] [Taming Lv1] [Minor Healing Lv1] For a moment, Lily simply stared.
She had awakened. She had really awakened.
The realization struck her like lightning.
The next second the classroom exploded.
"So cool!!!!"
"She awakened!"
"I knew it!"
"Oh my god!"
The reactions were even louder than when Adrian and Ethan had awakened. After all, Knight and Mage classes appeared somewhat often.
The teacher took a deep breath before forcing herself to calm down.
"Silence!"
The classroom gradually quieted, though excitement still remained visible on every face.
The teacher looked at Lily. For the first time that day, genuine envy appeared in her eyes.
"Congratulations, Lily."
Only then did Lily finally recover from her shock. A smile slowly appeared on her face.
"Thank you."
The teacher pointed toward Adrian and Ethan.
"You may stand with the other awakened students."
Still feeling slightly dazed, Lily obeyed. As she walked over, many students looked at her with admiration. Others looked jealous. A few looked depressed.
Such was the nature of awakening ceremonies. Some lives changed in a single moment. Others remained exactly the same.
However, Lily wasn't focused on any of this. Her attention stayed fixed on the panel that had appeared before her eyes.
