Chapter 1065: Conclusion and Future Plans [1]
A smile immediately appeared on Michael's face as he sensed Lily's awakening.
The seriousness that had occupied his expression vanished almost instantly. His shoulders relaxed, and he leaned back into his chair once more.
It would be a lie to say he didn't care whether Lily awakened or not. Of course he cared. She was family.
Though even if Lily never awakened, Michael possessed more than enough resources to forcefully push her to incredible heights and turn her into a powerhouse regardless.
Still, he considered that external help. Who didn't want the people close to them to achieve great things through their own efforts and talents?
Now Lily possessed both. Her own path. And his support.
Thinking about it made Michael's mood improve considerably. The future suddenly looked much more interesting.
With his mind at ease now, Michael's thoughts naturally drifted toward Lily's class.
Among awakeners, there were hundreds upon hundreds of classes. Possibly thousands. No one truly knew the exact number. Unless it was someone's primary area of research, it was impossible to know every class that existed.
Awakeners had existed for an absurdly long time, long enough for entirely new classes to emerge and become permanent parts of the system. For example, the Gunner class.
Originally, it hadn't existed. It had evolved from the Hunter class after generations of awakeners adapted their abilities toward firearms.
Eventually the Origin Will recognized the path. After that, Gunner became a legitimate class capable of being awakened naturally.
Countless similar examples existed. Classes created by civilization. Classes created by accidents. Classes born from evolution. Classes born from entirely new paths. The longer history progressed, the larger the list became.
Michael naturally didn't know everything. However, he did know quite a bit, and Druid happened to be one of the classes he was somewhat familiar with, because it shared similarities with two classes Michael understood very well.
Beast Tamers and Necromancers.
Yes, the Druid class also possessed contract slots, and unlike the Beast Tamer and Necromancer classes, it was classified as a Special Grade Class.
However, while all three classes shared the concept of contracts, the way those contracts functioned was very different.
Among the three, Necromancers possessed the greatest number of contract slots. As they grew stronger, their available slots increased at an astonishing rate.
Beast Tamers came second. Though the gap between them and Necromancers was significant, Beast Tamers still possessed far more contract capacity than most other classes.
Druids, meanwhile, were different. Unlike the first two classes, whose contract capacity continued expanding throughout their growth, Druids possessed a fixed number of slots per rank.
The exact amount depended on the individual's talent and potential. Some Druids started with as little as one slot per rank, indicating limited talent in that regard, while others started with far more.
Yet regardless of the starting number, the growth pattern remained relatively stable.
In that regard, their contracts functioned more like a support system than a primary source of strength, at least when compared to Beast Tamers and Necromancers.
However, that didn't make them weaker. Far from it.
Michael wasn't just happy that Lily had awakened. The class she had awakened added much to his excitement.
This was because the Druid class was arguably one of the most complete classes in existence. A true hybrid. A class that borrowed strengths from multiple paths while avoiding many of their weaknesses.
They possessed decent physical combat ability. Strong magical affinity. Excellent support capabilities. Powerful healing. Natural affinity with beasts. Natural affinity with plants. High adaptability. And respectable contract abilities.
There were very few situations where a Druid became completely useless.
Against undead? They had life energy.
Against beasts? They could communicate with and influence them.
Against warriors? They possessed crowd control and support magic, and they could hold their own in close combat too.
Because of this versatility, Druids could be described as a class without obvious weaknesses. Of course, that description wasn't entirely accurate.
Every class had weaknesses. But compared to specialized classes, Druids had very few glaring flaws. They might not surpass specialists in their own fields. A pure healer would heal better. But their versatility alone made them dangerous.
Michael's gaze suddenly turned thoughtful, and he muttered to himself.
"I wonder how many classes she awakened."
Awakening wasn't always limited to a single class. Individuals who already possessed an established profession before awakening often had a high chance of receiving that profession as an additional class.
Such people were commonly referred to as Dual Awakeners. They were uncommon but far from unheard of.
Triple Awakeners also existed. However, those individuals were genuinely rare.
Some people became unlucky enough to awaken a class identical to their existing profession. Instead of gaining something new, their awakening merely strengthened what they already possessed.
Others were even more unlucky, as despite possessing a profession beforehand, they wouldn't awaken a second class at all. No one truly understood why. The process remained one of the universe's countless mysteries.
Fortunately, Michael wasn't worried about the first possibility. Lily had never been a Druid before awakening. The real question was whether her previous professions had become secondary classes.
Months ago, Lily had already stepped onto the path of a Knight. Though her energy reserves remained limited, her talent had allowed her to enter the cultivation path through her spirit root as well. In theory, both paths had the potential to be recognized by the Origin Will.
If she was lucky, she might possess three classes. Druid. Knight. And whatever class her cultivation path evolved into.
If she was less fortunate, she might only possess the Druid class. Or perhaps Druid and Knight. There were simply too many possibilities.
Michael rubbed his chin.
"I'll find out soon enough."
Initially, he had planned to return home immediately after confirming Lily's awakening. Now he changed his mind. There was no hurry.
After awakening, every successful student was required to register with the Supers Association. The entire process was mandatory. That meant Lily would be leaving the school before long. All he had to do was wait.
Thinking this, Michael leaned back in his chair and relaxed. A smile still lingered on his face. No matter how calm he appeared, he couldn't completely hide his satisfaction.
Lily had awakened. Not only that, she had awakened an excellent class. The Druid class was among the strongest hybrid classes in existence.
A class capable of healing, supporting, fighting, controlling beasts, controlling plants, and forming contracts. Its versatility was indeed an advantage.
More importantly, it suited Lily surprisingly well. Michael had always felt Lily lacked a clear direction, partly because of him. She possessed talent in many areas but didn't overwhelmingly dominate any single path.
The more he thought about it, the more satisfied he became.
Back inside the classroom, the Awakening Ceremony continued. Unfortunately, Lily's success marked the end of the class's good fortune. The orb remained silent again and again.
The excitement that had erupted when Lily awakened gradually faded, replaced by a much heavier atmosphere.
By the time the final student finished, the results had become clear.
Out of thirty-plus students, only three had successfully awakened.
Adrian Walker. Ethan Brooke. And Lily. That was all.
Three awakeners.
The ratio wasn't unusual. If anything, it was considered relatively normal. Yet knowing that fact did little to comfort the students sitting in the classroom.
Many of them stared at the floor. Others stared blankly at their desks. Some looked as though they had expected this outcome. Others looked devastated.
The homeroom teacher silently observed the scene before letting out an inward sigh. She had seen it countless times before. Still, there were things she was required to say.
"The ceremony isn't over for you."
Several students looked up.
"This is only your first attempt." Her voice remained calm. "You will have another chance next year." Then she paused. "And another the year after that."
No one responded. The classroom remained quiet. The students weren't stupid. Everyone knew the truth. The first awakening attempt possessed the highest success rate.
The second year was lower. The third year was lower still. After that, there were no more chances. In fact, rather than saying one had three chances to awaken, one could say that for most people, it was really only one.
From this one could see how unusual Michael's awakening last year had been, and why the principal had been so happy.
The teacher knew what she was saying was mostly sweet nonsense. The students knew it as well. Still, tradition demanded she offer encouragement.
"As long as you haven't given up, there is still a possibility."
A few students nodded weakly. Most simply remained silent.
Truthfully, the teacher wasn't particularly optimistic. Based on experience, if even one of the failed students awakened next year, it would already be considered excellent news. If none awakened, nobody would be surprised. That was simply the difficulty of awakening.
Eventually, seeing there was nothing more she could say, the teacher closed her notebook.
"Awakened students, follow me."
Immediately, countless envious gazes landed on Lily, Adrian, and Ethan. The difference between them and everyone else had already begun.
The teacher led them from the classroom with the awakening orb by her side. As they moved through the school corridors, Lily noticed groups of students from other classes doing the same.
Teachers escorted awakened students toward the administrative building while the unsuccessful students were dismissed for the day.
Curious, Lily began counting. Including her class, the entire school had only produced five awakeners this year.
Five.
The realization weighed on Lily. She had always known awakening was difficult. Seeing the actual numbers made it feel much more real.
"Only five?" Ethan quietly muttered beside her.
The teacher overheard him and nodded.
"Five is already a good result."
The three students immediately looked surprised.
The teacher smiled bitterly.
"You'd be amazed how many schools finish with one or two."
Nobody spoke after hearing that.
Soon they arrived at the principal's office. Several teachers were already gathered there. Beside them stood the other newly awakened students from the remaining classes.
