Chapter 1077: Confrontation [2]
Chapter 1077: Confrontation [2]
A few seconds after Michael disappeared, three terrifying presences arrived where the battle had just taken place. They stopped in midair.
The lingering storm of wind blades was still carving deep scars into the surrounding mountains, while wounded awakeners slowly regained their bearings.
None of the three newcomers paid any attention to those around them.
The first was a man. Or rather, he looked human. Towering well over seven feet in height, his physique possessed proportions no ordinary human could ever achieve.
Every muscle appeared perfectly sculpted, giving him the imposing build of a miniature titan rather than a mortal man.
Behind his back spread four pairs of enormous white wings. Each feather shimmered with a faint silver radiance. Golden hair flowed to his shoulders, while a pair of sapphire-blue eyes calmly observed the battlefield beneath him.
He wore white armor engraved with countless holy runes that seemed to pulse with living light. Simply standing there caused a gentle pressure to descend upon the surroundings. He gave off an indescribable sense of dignity.
An Angel. A genuine member of one of the universe's higher races.
Beside him floated a much younger-looking woman. She appeared to be in her early twenties. Unlike the male angel, she possessed only three pairs of wings. Her silver-white hair reached her waist, while her emerald eyes remained emotionless.
She too possessed the same inhumanly perfect physique, hidden beneath elegant white armor. Although considerably smaller than the man beside her, her aura wasn't weaker than many of the other awakeners around.
Anyone foolish enough to judge her by appearance alone would undoubtedly regret it.
Neither angel spoke. Their expressions remained cold from beginning to end.
Not far away stood another figure. She was a middle-aged woman dressed in flowing azure robes embroidered with clouds and mountains. Her black hair was tied into a simple bun using nothing more than a wooden hairpin.
Beneath her feet floated a jade-colored sword. Its blade emitted faint ripples through space every few seconds, as though the sword itself breathed. Her hands remained folded behind her back.
The surrounding spiritual energy instinctively gathered around her without needing conscious control.
Every movement she made carried the natural elegance unique to a profession belonging to one of the universe's high civilizations.
Even before she spoke, one could immediately recognize her as a sword cultivator.
Finally, several dozen meters away floated a broad-shouldered man with burning crimson hair.
Unlike the other three, he wore no armor whatsoever.
His upper body remained bare, revealing skin covered in fiery red patterns resembling flowing magma. The air around him continuously distorted. Heat poured from his body in visible waves.
Every breath he exhaled raised the surrounding temperature.
Even the lingering storm left behind by Michael gradually weakened under the scorching heat surrounding him.
Without another word after failing to see their target, all four immediately disappeared.
They had only stopped because Michael aura had briefly halted here. Now that it was moving again, there was no reason to remain.
Within moments, all four terrifying presences vanished completely.
…
Only after they had disappeared did the dozens of awakeners trapped within the valley slowly release the breaths they had been unconsciously holding.
"…They're finally gone."
A stone-skinned giant wiped blood from his shoulder before sitting down heavily on a broken cliff. Another awakener laughed bitterly.
"I thought we were dead."
Several people nodded in agreement.
No one doubted it. If Michael had thrown away the Heavenly Enlightenment Incense during that brief confrontation, those four monsters would have descended directly into the middle of everyone present.
At that point, whether they survived or not would have depended entirely upon luck.
The six-eyed awakener carefully stored away his bronze compass before sighing.
"It's a shame though."
Silence followed.
A beastkin suddenly frowned.
"…Wait."
He looked toward the direction the four had disappeared.
"Wasn't that…" He hesitated before continuing. "…Fairy Sword Immortal Qing Yue?"
Several people immediately turned toward him.
"The cultivator?"
"Yes."
A bird-winged awakener slowly nodded.
"…I'm fairly certain it was her."
Another person looked toward where the angels had vanished.
"And wasn't that…" He swallowed unconsciously. "…Lord Seraphiel?"
The atmosphere immediately became strange. Even those who had remained relatively calm until now couldn't hide their surprise anymore.
"…Those two?"
"But…"
A horned giant frowned.
"Aren't the Celestial Dominion and the Azure Sword Realm supposed to be at each other's throats?"
One would normally assume supernaturals, or in this case awakeners, originating from different realms would remain strangers to one another. Reality, however, was very different. After all, not everyone was like Michael.
Among the Rank Four awakeners gathered here, many had lived for several centuries. Some were already approaching a thousand years of age, and others had long surpassed that milestone.
Over such vast stretches of time, countless awakeners had traveled between realms, explored special dimensions like hell, participated in inter-realm tournaments, joined large organizations, or simply wandered the universe in search of opportunities.
They had met countless races, and countless civilizations had interacted with one another across the ages.
Naturally, the truly famous figures among those civilizations were known far beyond the borders of their own realms.
The male angel was one such existence. Likewise, the sword cultivator's reputation had spread throughout numerous star regions.
Neither had reached the Demigod Realm. Yet both had long been acknowledged as standing only a single step away from it.
A burly beastkin suddenly burst into laughter.
"Hahaha! So what if their realms are at odds?"
Several people looked toward him. The beastkin shrugged.
"Don't tell me you've lived this long and still think a civilization is the same thing as the people living in it." He scratched one horn casually.
"The Celestial Dominion and the Azure Sword Realm may dislike one another, but Lord Seraphiel isn't the Celestial Dominion. And Fairy Sword Immortal Qing Yue isn't the Azure Sword Realm. They're individuals. Watch your mouth and be careful what you say. The two of them may not care. But if someone hears you speaking so casually about existences like them…"
