Chapter 1208: Taboo Creature
Chapter 1208: Taboo Creature
The moment Michael appeared beside the newly transplanted Nether Soul Tree, something cold slammed against him.
"…!"
A pale face appeared directly against his own.
Michael's heart nearly jumped out of his chest.
The ghost had practically flown into him. Her translucent body pressed against his front while both hands rested on his shoulders. Her silver eyes were wider than usual, and there was none of the lazy calm she normally carried.
Michael recovered quickly.
"What happened?"
The ghost didn't immediately answer. Her head turned sharply toward one direction. Then another. Her spiritual perception seemed to sweep across the surrounding region repeatedly, but the expression on her face only became more confused.
"I don't know."
Michael's brows furrowed.
"You don't know?"
The ghost slowly released him but remained unusually close.
"Something is happening."
Michael's expression became serious.
"What?"
She shook her head.
"I don't know. All I know is it's something amazing."
After a bit more communication between them, Michael figured out that the ghost seemed to be sensing something taking place somewhere within the Mausoleum.
Something significant enough that even without seeing it, it had disturbed her. Yet strangely enough, she couldn't identify where it was coming from.
Michael raised an eyebrow.
Lucky's evolution was taking place extremely far from here. The Heavenly Enlightenment Incense was even farther away.
Michael had deliberately separated the major evolutions specifically because he didn't know what kind of phenomena they might produce. The Mausoleum wasn't some small spatial storage treasure either. It was an enormous independent world.
Yet the ghost had still sensed something.
"As expected of a Demigod."
The ghost looked at him. Michael didn't explain.
This was another reminder of just how different Rank Five beings were. At
Rank Five, the connection Demigods possessed was far deeper than that of a being like Michael.
Perhaps what the ghost was sensing was the rules of the Mausoleum reacting to the two Legendary-grade evolutions.
Fortunately, it was happening here and not in Aurora. Compared to the Mausoleum, where he was like a god, in Aurora he would have had to pray he wasn't ambushed by Demigods from the demonic supernaturals' side, since hiding evolutions of this level would be difficult for him right now without a storage treasure.
Michael's gaze remained on the ghost for several more seconds before he finally looked away.
Only then did he remember someone else was supposed to be here.
His perception spread across the surrounding region, and it didn't take long to find Isabella, who was standing near the edge of the prepared basin, partially hidden behind one of the black stone formations surrounding the Nether Soul Tree.
Michael's expression became strange as she wasn't simply standing there but was shivering.
The Skeleton Chief's entire frame trembled faintly. Her violet soul flames had shrunk considerably, and both hands were wrapped tightly around her staff as though it were the only thing keeping her upright.
Michael turned toward the ghost.
"What did you do to her?"
The ghost blinked in confusion.
"Nothing."
The ghost's expression remained completely innocent.
"She was like that after you left."
Michael's eyes narrowed slightly, and he looked back toward Isabella before he started walking up to her.
The Skeleton Chief noticed him approaching almost immediately. Her violet flames brightened slightly, though the trembling didn't completely stop.
Michael examined her carefully. There were no obvious injuries. Her soul flame was stable. Her bones were intact apart from the minor damage from earlier.
"Are you fine?"
Isabella looked at him.
"Yes, Senior. I'm just glad you're back."
"…"
Michael gave her a strange look before ignoring her. His attention returned to the ghost.
She had already floated back toward the Nether Soul Tree and was resting against one of its branches, but her silver eyes still occasionally shifted toward the distant horizon.
Michael shook his head and waved one hand.
Space distorted directly in front of him. The next moment, a figure appeared, and a boy stood before Michael.
He appeared somewhere around sixteen or seventeen years old. Long black hair fell loosely past his shoulders, framing a refined face that looked strikingly similar to Michael's own, though noticeably younger.
His eyes were bright green. A long green coat rested over his body, tailored neatly enough to give him an almost aristocratic appearance despite his apparent age.
The moment his form stabilized, the boy looked toward Michael. He immediately straightened before placing one hand across his chest and giving an elegant bow.
"Master."
Michael nodded. Before he could say anything else, the ghost disappeared from beside the Nether Soul Tree and reappeared directly between him and Jester.
Whoosh!
Michael's eyes twitched.
Jester remained bowed for another moment before slowly raising his head.
The ghost floated inches away from him. Her silver eyes moved across his face before she started circling him. Jester's green eyes followed her calmly.
The ghost stopped directly in front of him and leaned closer. Her spiritual perception swept across his body. Jester didn't react.
Michael watched silently as the ghost's expression gradually changed from curiosity to confusion, then something resembling mild disgust.
Her silver eyes narrowed.
"What a taboo creature."
Michael's eyebrow rose while Jester only gave a simple smile.
The ghost floated around him once more, examining him from another angle.
"So wrong. Very wrong."
The ghost continued studying Jester for several more seconds before losing interest and disappearing.
Whoosh.
A moment later, she was back beside the Nether Soul Tree. Her body floated upward until she settled among several of the pale-blue Soul Flames surrounding its branches.
She leaned against the trunk, rested one cheek on her hand, and stared blankly into the distance.
Just like that, she returned to daydreaming.
Michael gave her a glance before looking at Jester.
Jester's expression remained perfectly composed, though there was something slightly strange in his green eyes.
Michael did not think the ghost's assessment was entirely wrong. Among every undead he had ever created, Jester had always been the strangest.
Whether it was his existence, his abilities, or even the way he behaved, Michael had encountered a good number of powerful beings by now. Yet very few had ever managed to reproduce the same subtle eeriness Jester possessed.
