Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1218: Fate Treasure

Chapter 1218: Fate Treasure

One of the assassins took a step backward.

"Wait. We can talk."

Michael didn't respond.

"We were hired! We don't have any personal grudge against you. This was business!"

The other assassin quickly added, "We can tell you who hired us."

Michael's gaze remained lowered.

"We'll tell you everything!"

The first assassin seemed to become increasingly desperate as the ghost's aura continued pressing down on him.

"We've worked for hundreds of years. We have information. Treasures. Connections. Hidden bases. Anything you want."

The ghost's head turned and looked toward Michael, apparently waiting for instructions.

Michael wasn't looking at either assassin. His eyes remained fixed upon the pile of belongings scattered across the floor.

The longer he stared, the colder his expression became.

Michael had originally wanted them alive, since he wanted information, but the more he thought of the many possibilities that could have happened, he didn't even want to see these two breathing.

Michael finally raised his eyes.

"There's no need to keep them alive. Having them in one piece is enough."

"WAIT!"

The ghost raised one hand.

Crack!

Neither assassin had the opportunity to do anything else.

Cold exploded through the basement. Frost covered both men from their feet upward. Their defensive energy reacted instinctively, but against the ghost's power it accomplished almost nothing.

"No!"

In less than a second, both Peak Rank Four assassins had become motionless blocks of ice.

Silence returned to the basement.

The ghost did not immediately lower her hand.

Her silver eyes moved toward the formation beneath Michael's feet. Then she casually flicked one finger.

Crack!

The magic circle that had required an expensive treasure, countless materials, and an enormous amount of preparation shattered. Several runes went dark simultaneously.

The spatial lock disappeared, and the restriction suppressing Michael's perception collapsed immediately afterward, allowing his senses to spread beyond the basement for the first time since arriving.

Michael barely reacted. His expression remained cold as he walked toward the pile of belongings. He crouched beside them and placed them inside his storage space. He would sort through everything later.

Once he was done, Michael stood.

His gaze moved toward the two frozen assassins. The enormous blocks of ice remained exactly where they had been, with the two figures clearly visible inside.

Michael stared for several seconds, and his perception swept across them.

His eyebrow rose.

Their life forces were extremely weak, but they hadn't disappeared.

"They're still alive."

The ghost looked at him and shrugged.

"I can kill them now if you want."

The ghost continued casually.

"They'll die eventually, so no need to waste energy on something that just requires time."

"…"

Michael stared at her for several seconds, then he shook his head.

The more time Michael spent around this Demigod, the more he realized his first impression of her had been completely correct. She didn't merely look lazy. She was lazy. Painfully lazy. It seems if something could be accomplished with ten units of energy, she wasn't spending eleven.

Even following Michael around wasn't some sudden burst of enthusiasm for exploring the universe. All she wanted was his Evolution Essence Crystals.

She was a crystal digger.

The ghost tilted her head.

"What?"

"Nothing."

Michael looked away and placed the two in the Mausoleum.

With the two assassins safely stored inside the Mausoleum, Michael's attention returned to the ruined formation. Or rather, what remained of it.

The ghost's casual attack had destroyed most of it, but Michael could still sense something beneath the ground.

He walked toward the center of the ruined formation, crouched, and plunged one hand directly into the earth.

Crack!

His fingers tore through the stone and continued downward until they touched something solid. Michael grabbed it and pulled.

A circular disk emerged from beneath the floor. It was slightly larger than his palm and surprisingly thin. Its surface was dark grey, almost metallic, with countless tiny symbols arranged around several concentric rings. Michael could still feel a peculiar energy lingering within it.

"This should be the treasure they mentioned."

Michael immediately recognized what it should be. The two assassins had said they used an expensive treasure as the foundation of the entire formation. Apparently, they had buried it underneath the center.

Michael wiped away the dirt before activating Detect.

[Anchor of Entangled Fate]

[Grade: Epic ★★]

[Description: A fate-related treasure capable of establishing an artificial connection between a designated target and a prepared anchor through sufficient traces of their existence.] [The strength and stability of the connection depend on the quality and quantity of the target's traces, the difference in strength between the user and target, and the supporting formation.] [When sufficiently reinforced, the established connection can be used for tracking, restriction, and other effects.] Michael's expression became slightly serious.

"Two-Star Epic."

No wonder. He had wondered how two Rank Four assassins had managed to forcefully teleport him without warning and temporarily interfere with his ability to summon his undead. The answer was sitting in his hand.

Michael turned the disk over. The treasure might only be Two-Star Epic, but he had personally experienced its effects and could not underestimate it.

"This would fit Jester almost perfectly."

Jester's Law was already deeply connected to divination. His abilities allowed him to glimpse possibilities, interfere with probability, and obtain information that should ordinarily have been beyond his reach.

Michael had always intended to eventually equip his important undead with treasures suited specifically to their abilities. The problem was finding suitable ones. Powerful treasures weren't exactly lying around everywhere, and compatibility mattered almost as much as grade.

But this?

Michael turned the disk between his fingers. He could already imagine what Jester might accomplish with it.

Of course, Michael wasn't giving it to him like this.

His gaze settled on its grade again.

[Epic ★★]

Michael's lips curved slightly.

"Two Stars is a little ugly."

Since he was going to give Jester a fate-related treasure, he might as well improve it first.

Three-Star Epic. That sounded much better.

Michael placed the Anchor of Entangled Fate into his storage space. Once he had the time, he would evolve it and hand it over to Jester.

Considering the four levels Jester had recently sacrificed through his divination just to help Michael's trip through the Netherworld go smoothly, Michael felt he had more than earned it.

When all was done and he confirmed he didn't miss anything, Michael had the ghost inhabit his body again before making his way up from the dark basement.
