Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1219: Sneaky

Chapter 1219: Sneaky

Michael's head emerged from the ground first.

He remained there for several seconds, his body still buried beneath the earth as his senses spread outward.

Above the basement stood an old, unimpressive house surrounded by several similar buildings. Beyond that were narrow roads, patches of undeveloped land, scattered houses, and considerably more vegetation than urban areas.

Was he in a rural area?

Though Aurora was developed, it wasn't like the concept of rural areas or villages had disappeared.

Michael expanded his perception farther to fill capacity, and his expression gradually changed as familiar roads and sights entered his perception.

Michael finally pulled the rest of his body from the ground.

"You've got to be kidding me."

He was actually in Brightgate City.

Technically, he was near its outskirts, in one of the less developed areas, but there was no mistaking it.

Upon entering Aurora, he had chosen another country, since he figured his home country would be quite the center of attention now. He didn't think he'd be brought here.

Not only had those two broken into his family's home and taken their belongings, they had actually stationed themselves not that far away.

Michael felt another wave of irritation.

"What the hell is the Federation doing?"

The two assassins were Peak Rank Four. That wasn't weak. Rank Four beings were already important figures even on the scale of the universe, much less within an individual territory. Two foreign Peak Rank Four supernaturals entering Federation territory shouldn't be something that went completely unnoticed.

At least, Michael didn't think so.

The question was whether the Federation genuinely hadn't noticed them. Or whether they had been permitted to enter.

Michael couldn't confirm anything yet, but given his relationship with them, Michael felt the possibility wasn't low.

"I should also consider the fact that they underestimated me far too much."

At first, Michael had assumed they had underestimated him because of his age and Rank. That wasn't exactly strange, as he was indeed young and only Rank Three, and most of his publicly displayed strength came from his undead. But there was one enormous problem with that reasoning.

Michael had beaten a Demigod to death.

Yet two Peak Rank Four assassins still thought he wasn't special.

"That's weird."

Surely as assassins they weren't stupid, right? Michael couldn't help but wonder if it was because the Federation had controlled the situation afterward.

"Did they suppress it?"

He felt the possibility was high, since after exposing the Undead High Drake, he had expected his Rank Advancement Quest to also see some progress. But it got nothing, just like the case with Jester, even though this time they knew the undead belonged to him.

Michael stared at the sky for several more seconds before eventually shaking his head.

There were too many possibilities he could think of if he wanted. He didn't have enough information to decide which was true, since some were indeed just nonsense theories caused by his lack of trust.

"I'll find out eventually."

For now, there was somewhere else he wanted to visit.

Michael hadn't planned on staying in Aurora for particularly long, especially with the Origin Battlefield reopening soon, but since those two assassins had already dragged him back to Brightgate City, he might as well inspect his family's apartment personally.

This entire situation had taught him a lesson. He had always known Jester's abilities were strange and dangerous, but experiencing a fate-related method personally had made him realize just how vulnerable Aunt Mia and Lily could be to similar means.

"I'll have Jester check them when I return."

Michael was about to move when a familiar voice suddenly sounded inside his head.

"My payment."

Michael stopped. He had almost forgotten this ghost's greed.

The ghost continued from inside him.

"You said if I…"

"Let's calculate everything when we get back."

Michael continued before she could protest.

"We're not finished here yet. Something else might happen before we leave Aurora, and you might need to help me again."

The ghost remained quiet for a moment.

"…Fine."

Michael could practically feel her reluctance.

Michael shook his head. He ignored her and looked toward the distant city.

His family's apartment wasn't particularly far from his current location with his present abilities.

Space distorted faintly around him. The next instant, Michael disappeared from the spot.

A few moments later he reappeared several streets away from his family's apartment. His perception first swept across the neighborhood before settling on the familiar building.

After discovering no visible traps, Michael disappeared again.

This time, he appeared inside the apartment.

The moment his feet touched the floor, his expression darkened.

"As I expected. This place has been tampered with."

The apartment was already in a somewhat ragged state, just like many buildings throughout Brightgate. The female Demigod's actions a few days earlier had affected an enormous portion of the city. Although the worst damage had been concentrated elsewhere, the shockwaves alone had left their mark.

Cracks ran along several walls, and parts of the ceiling had fractured. From the outside, the entire building looked as though it had suddenly aged several decades. But Michael could distinguish that damage from everything else.

His eyes slowly moved through the apartment, and he could tell several places had clearly been searched and then deliberately arranged to make it seem as though nothing had happened.

He was currently in Wisdom State, so his senses were in an absurd state where even the smallest actions could be seen, and with his memory of a few days ago still very much clear, he discovered quite a few things.

Michael stood silently for a while before finally deciding that there was indeed no reason to leave anything behind.

He had first thought of maybe dropping a few undead to stand guard, since he had many Rank Four undead doing nothing or just keeping the house clean. But now he felt it was better to do the job properly.

Michael's power spread throughout the entire building, and the entire apartment shook.
