Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1264: Spirit Tamer [2]

Chapter 1264: Spirit Tamer [2]

Once his frustration settled, Michael was able to learn far more about the Awakening Temple than he knew before.

It also revealed more about the nature of the Awakening Trials themselves.

Externally, Arianne had only been inside for around five hours. For her, however, five years had passed.

Fortunately, despite several difficulties and more than one close brush with death, Arianne had managed to complete two of the three Trial Tasks.

The final evaluation had been Exceptional, granting her a tamer class as she wanted, fifty Attribute Points, a maxed-out Rank Zero, and a trait. There were a few more rewards, but these were the major ones.

Squatting beside Arianne, Michael cast Detect on her.

[Spirit Tamer Level 10]

Even with his prejudice against the Hell difficulty, Michael had to admit that its rewards were very good.

He had no idea what someone would receive from Normal, Hard, or Extreme difficulty with the same Exceptional evaluation, but he highly doubted it would be comparable.

Arianne had gotten almost exactly what she wanted. A taming-related class.

More specifically, a variant class Michael had never heard of before. From everything Arianne had told him, it was clearly superior to the ordinary Beast Tamer class.

The easiest way to see that was through her attributes. The trial had directly pushed her to Level 10, the maximum of Rank Zero, and had also rewarded her with fifty free Attribute Points.

Her total attributes now reached 170. Michael only needed a thought to understand the division.

Arianne’s new body had been created using his blood. Because of that, her racial foundation was already comparable to a High Human, granting six Attribute Points per level.

Across ten levels, that accounted for sixty points. Removing the fifty points directly rewarded by the trial left another sixty points.

That meant her class itself had also been providing six Attribute Points per level. Only special classes had that kind of growth.

An ordinary Beast Tamer class gave four Attribute Points per level while Spirit Tamer gave six. Just from that alone, there was already a considerable gap between the two classes.

And attributes were usually only the most obvious difference. The mechanics of the class only made that difference more obvious.

A Beast Tamer was simple enough from the name alone. They formed contracts with beasts, strengthened them, fought alongside them, and developed abilities centered around controlling or supporting those contracted creatures.

Spirit Tamers were different. According to Arianne, they could contract not only beasts, but also spiritual beings obtained from the Spirit Realm or created through artificial means.

Michael knew a little about the Spirit Realm. It was another separate dimension with its own laws, much like the Netherworld.

But unlike Hell, which was closely associated with demons, or Heaven, which was associated with angels, the Spirit Realm remained far more mysterious, like the Netherworld, and wasn’t easy to gain access to.

Arianne’s trial had revealed much more to him. Spirit beings could generally be obtained in two ways.

The first was through a ritual. During the ritual, a portion of the Spirit Tamer’s consciousness or spirit would enter the Spirit Realm and search for a compatible spirit to contract.

The Spirit Realm itself was divided into two known layers: the Dark Layer, and the Light Layer.

The Dark Layer was chaotic. The difference in strength and potential between spirits there could be enormous.

A weak Spirit Tamer with poor talent might still enter the Dark Layer, but they would have very little control over what happened afterward. In many cases, they couldn’t even properly see the spirits around them.

They could only release their presence and intent, then wait for something compatible to respond. Only after a contract was successfully completed would the true form of the spirit become visible to them.

The Light Layer was completely different. It could almost be considered the true world of the Spirit Realm.

Rare spirits that would be considered treasures elsewhere could be encountered naturally. There were even terrifying existences such as Elemental Kings and other high-ranking spiritual beings.

The stronger and more talented the Spirit Tamer, the greater their chance of accessing the Light Layer during a ritual.

Michael was left in awe while listening to Arianne explain all of this. The trial world was absurdly detailed.

Its power system was not some shallow imitation created only for a test. It had history, culture, and so on, just like any other real place. Even information about dimensions that existed in the real universe.

That made Michael realize another major advantage the Awakening Temple possessed over natural awakening.

Experience. A naturally awakened person might receive a class and several skills, but they still had to learn how to use everything afterward.

Arianne had spent five years living with the foundation of her future profession before returning. Even ignoring the rewards, that alone was valuable.

There was also the suspected lack of an age restriction. If the Awakening Temple truly allowed anyone who met its requirements to undergo a trial regardless of age, then its value was even greater than Michael had originally believed.

It didn’t simply awaken people. It could produce experienced Awakeners from the moment they emerged.

As for why Arianne was currently unconscious, it was because Michael had just finished evolving her contracted spirits. Spirit Tamers were closely connected to their spirits.

Unlike a necromancer’s undead or a beast tamer’s tamed creatures, contracted spirits could not simply advance on their own. Their growth was tied to the Rank of their tamer.

This was Michael’s first time encountering such a restriction. Still, grade evolution was different from Rank advancement.

Over the past three days, Michael had sacrificed several Evolution Essence Crystals on Arianne’s spirits. By the end, however, the results were more than worth it.

All of Arianne’s currently contracted spirits had been pushed to Epic Grade ★★★ at level 10.
