Chapter 1265: Difference Between Natural and Artificial Awakening [1]
This was the first time Michael had personally come across something like this. From what he could tell, there was nothing stopping him from pushing Arianne’s spirits even higher in grade.
If he had been willing to spend the resources, he could have used a Legendary-grade Evolution Essence Crystal and attempted to raise one of them directly to Legendary Grade while it was still only Level 10.
A Legendary Grade creature at Level 10.
Normally, something naturally born with that kind of grade and potential would already begin life around Rank Two at the very least. It would then require comparatively little time to enter Rank Three and, depending on its race and bloodline, could naturally mature around Rank Four without encountering the kinds of barriers ordinary creatures struggled with.
Yet Arianne’s spirits were sitting at Level 10. That contradiction fascinated Michael.
Michael took the matter seriously. Anything capable of interacting with Infinite Evolution in an unusual way deserved his attention. His talent had already shown multiple times that the evolution could produce very different results depending on the circumstances surrounding it.
Arianne’s contracted spirits introduced another variable entirely.
One had to know that when a contracted creature advanced in Rank, classes such as Necromancers and Beast Tamers could receive a certain amount of feedback from that advancement. Even something as ordinary as a Common Grade ★★★ undead or tamed beast advancing to Rank One would still strengthen its master to some extent.
The higher the grade of the creature, the greater that feedback became. There was no perfectly accurate formula for it, but Michael had noticed a rough pattern. If a Common Grade creature gave one portion of feedback, then a Rare Grade creature could be seen as giving roughly twice as much, Extraordinary Grade around twice that of Rare, Epic Grade around twice that of Extraordinary, and Legendary Grade around twice that of Epic.
The actual result varied depending on race and individual foundation, but the general trend was about the same.
According to Arianne, Spirit Tamers also benefited from this mechanic. Arianne currently possessed three Epic Grade ★★★ spirits, all trapped at Level 10 only because she herself had not advanced.
Once she completed her Rank One advancement, they would be able to follow.
And when they did... the feedback she received from several Epic Grade spirits advancing together would be enormous compared to what an ordinary tamer experienced.
Her own racial foundation was already strong. Now her contracted spirits had also been forcefully evolved far beyond what someone at Rank Zero should normally possess.
Michael could already imagine how ridiculous her foundation might become after a single major advancement. The spirits themselves would benefit just as much.
An Epic Grade ★★★ existence fighting at the same Level and Rank as an ordinary creature was already naturally superior in nearly every fundamental aspect. Once Arianne reached Rank One and removed the restriction holding them back, Michael doubted many supernaturals at the same level would be able to compete with her spirits at all.
This included his cousin.
In fact, it was because of Lily that Michael had paid even more attention to this discovery. From her previous entry into the Origin Battlefield, Michael had already realized that no matter how much he strengthened the beasts she could tame, there was a limit.
It was similar to his own early days.
But Arianne’s situation offered Michael another possibility. If he could understand the principle behind the restriction placed on her spirits and reproduce something similar for Lily, then his cousin’s strength could take another enormous leap.
Fortunately, the past three days had not been without gains. Throughout the entire evolution process, Michael had repeatedly used the Eye of Truth.
Several ideas had already taken root in his mind. What Michael needed now was time to digest everything he had seen and determine whether he could create something similar.
If he succeeded, Lily would benefit immediately. And perhaps more importantly, Michael’s own understanding of Infinite Evolution would deepen.
His talent was still filled with mysteries. Every unusual interaction he understood brought him one step closer to truly controlling its possibilities instead of merely using whatever functions appeared before him.
Arianne’s eyelids slowly fluttered. For a few seconds, her green eyes remained unfocused as she stared at the shifting aurora above.
"I’m still not used to it."
Her voice was soft and slightly hoarse.
A moment later, Arianne finally noticed Michael crouching beside her.
"Michael?"
The surprise lasted less than a second. Arianne suddenly reached out, wrapped both arms around him, and dragged him down into the golden grass with her.
Michael could have stopped her easily, but there was simply no reason to. He allowed himself to fall beside her as Arianne pressed close, her arms tightening around him.
The familiar scent surrounding her reached him at once. Michael’s body relaxed almost subconsciously.
As he rested there, Michael couldn’t help thinking back to how awkward he had been around Arianne only a few days earlier.
He knew his feelings for her were deep.
Arianne was his first love. And from everything between them, Michael knew she felt the same.
Of course, their relationship was also unusual. Arianne’s current body had been reconstructed from something originating from Michael’s own flesh, blood, and soul.
That connection had inevitably influenced the closeness between them to some degree. Michael was aware of that. But he had never believed it completely explained what existed between them. Perhaps he was deceiving himself, but he loved this feeling. It was new and special.
Still, Michael could not deny that the time spent between them was not long. Three days ago, he had been bothered by something after Arianne returned from the trial.
Time.
From Michael’s perspective, she had disappeared for only five hours. For Arianne, five years had passed.
Five years was enough for someone to change completely. Anything could have happened.
Fortunately, those worries had disappeared after Michael properly understood how the Awakening Trial affected its participants.
