Chapter 1268: Difference Between Natural and Artificial Awakening [4]
Chapter 1268: Difference Between Natural and Artificial Awakening [4]
Yin and Yang.
The thought appeared in Michael’s mind as he looked between the twins.
The concept itself was ancient and incredibly broad. Yin and Yang were not simply opposites.
They represented two contrasting forces that existed together, restrained each other, and in many cases completed one another.
Yang was often associated with activity, heat, strength, vitality, expansion, and the physical.
Yin leaned toward stillness, cold, spirit, energy, perception, internal force, and the immaterial.
The exact meaning changed depending on the system using it, but the principle was usually similar.
Opposites. Yet connected. Separate. Yet complementary.
Looking at Cael and Miki, Michael could see that idea almost perfectly reflected in them.
Cael had black hair and represented Yang, yet his ability sacrificed mana to strengthen the body.
Miki had white hair and represented Yin, yet her ability did the opposite, sacrificing physical vitality to strengthen mana and magical output.
Even their appearances felt like mirrors of one another. One dark. One light.
Their abilities did not merely contrast. They balanced each other.
"The abilities are good," Michael praised.
"You’re not wrong. Their special abilities are worlds away from what they could do. I’ve not tested it yet, but I know the effect will be much stronger!" Arianne agreed, but there was a trace of concern on her face.
"However, it seems like what used to be a normal skill has now turned into a trump card, though."
The strength of both skills was obvious. The cost was just as obvious.
Compared to their old versions, the new abilities were much more extreme. Michael understood where Arianne’s concern came from.
"Even though the skills changed, you two should still be able to use the old versions, right?"
Before Arianne could answer, the twins did.
"Master, yes." Cael stated.
Miki nodded beside him.
"We’ve become much stronger, but we can still use all of our previous abilities."
Arianne’s expression brightened at once.
The twins explained that evolution had not erased their old enhancement methods. The original physical and mana boosts still existed.
They could still use the weaker twenty-five or fifty percent enhancement styles when needed, with far lower costs. The new Extreme abilities were simply another level above them.
With this, Arianne could use the old skills for ordinary battles. And when something truly dangerous appeared, she could use the evolved versions as trump cards.
Michael nodded slowly. This was a very good enhancement to Arianne’s combat potential.
Arianne seemed to come to the same conclusion. She reached out and playfully rubbed both twins on the head.
Cael accepted it quietly, while Miki leaned into her hand with a faint smile.
Liora, who was lying by Michael’s side, noticed this right away, and the little crimson lion pushed forward between them, clearly unwilling to be left out.
Arianne laughed and used her other hand to scratch beneath its chin.
Seeing the scene, Michael couldn’t help but smile.
Although the entire trial now felt like an extremely vivid dream to Arianne, the three spirits had come back with her. More importantly, they had inherited the memories of those five years too.
If the spirits had vanished when the trial ended, perhaps those feelings would have settled into something distant a few hours after the trial. But their presence changed this.
What might otherwise have remained a surface-level attachment formed inside a trial had become something much deeper and more real.
As the five of them continued playing around, Michael shifted his attention toward Liora’s information. The little lion had changed just as much as the twins.
[Name: Liora]
[Race: Crimsonflame Lion Spirit]

Like the twins, one of this lion’s core skills had also mutated.
[Crimsonflame State]
[Effect: Upon activation, physical attributes are increased by 100%.]
[Fire affinity and fire magic output are increased by 100%.]
[Fire resistance, physical resilience, and recovery speed are significantly enhanced.]
[All fire-based attacks gain increased destructive power while the state is active.]
Compared to Cael and Miki, Liora’s ability was much more straightforward. There was no complicated conversion between mana and vitality.
No tradeoff between the physical body and magical output. It simply made Liora, or Arianne while possessed by Liora, far stronger in both close combat and fire magic.
[Name: Arianne Evermoon]

Arianne herself was not bad either. In fact, when Michael looked over her current panel, he had to admit that her foundation was already far better than his had been more than a year ago when he had just awakened.
Her individual stats might still look small compared to what Michael was used to seeing now, but that was only because his perspective had become distorted after reaching his current level.
For a Level 10 Awakener, Arianne was very strong.
The same could be said for Lily. Thinking about how his cousin also possessed a ridiculous foundation while still at Level 10, Michael could not help but feel that background truly mattered a lot.
Talent, luck, and effort mattered as well. But having someone powerful behind you could completely change your starting point.
With a tall enough tree shielding you from the wind and rain, one person’s beginning could already be another person’s ending point.
Michael had started with almost nothing. He had needed to struggle for resources, information, undead, and every small advantage he could get.
Arianne and Lily were different.
They had him.
This was what having a background meant.

A/N: Two Chapters left! A certain misconception has been going on about the author for months. Many accuse him of doing four Chapters a day and then taking a day off, when in reality this author hasn’t missed a single day of updates in close to two years. This misconception comes from different time zones and a bit of inconsistency on the author’s part.
It’s been three days since I said I’d start doing at least four Chapters a day, and with the remaining two Chapters to upload, that’s a total of twelve Chapters. Readers can go verify. This author might be a bit unreliable, but he tries his best. Please vote to motivate the author, and thanks for the continued support!
