Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1275: Awakeners In The Land Of Origin [4]

Chapter 1275: Awakeners In The Land Of Origin [4]

Everyone stopped what they were doing.

The villagers carrying buckets turned toward Bok. The men handling the pigs stared. Even the chickens in the nearby cages began making more noise after being startled by his cry.

Garr’s expression darkened.

"What ghost?"

Bok staggered backwards and pointed at the floating panel.

"That!"

Everyone followed the direction of his finger.

There was nothing there from their perspective.

One of the temporary workers looked toward the wall behind the panel.

"A hook?"

"No!" Bok said. "The blue thing!"

"What blue thing?"

"The words!"

The workshop fell silent.

Garr stared at him for several seconds before reaching out and waving one thick hand through the panel.

His hand passed through it without resistance.

Bok flinched, but the panel did not react.

"There’s nothing here," Garr said.

"There is! It says I killed a pig and received four experience!"

Several of the workers exchanged looks.

Someone near the entrance began laughing.

"Did the forest spirits replace his skin and steal his sense?"

Another villager snorted.

"Maybe becoming fair made him stupid."

Their laughter spread through the workshop.

Bok’s face burned.

He looked at the panel again.

It remained directly in front of him, its letters perfectly visible. Yet Garr’s hand had passed through it, and no one else appeared capable of seeing it.

This was not helping his situation.

He had already returned from the forest looking completely different. If he continued shouting about floating words no one else could see, the villagers might genuinely conclude that something had possessed him.

Worse, Garr might decide that he was no longer fit to work.

Bok could not allow that.

He bent down, picked up his knife, and tried to calm his breathing.

"I must still be tired," he muttered.

Garr narrowed his eyes.

"Tired?"

"I woke up on the wrong side of bed today. Maybe I hit my head without realizing it."

His master continued staring at him.

Bok forced an embarrassed smile.

"It was probably nothing."

The laughter gradually stopped as everyone returned to work, although several villagers continued glancing at him.

Garr leaned closer.

"If you see another ghost, tell it to pick up a knife. We need every hand we can get."

More laughter erupted.

Bok lowered his head.

"Yes, Master."

The panel disappeared a few seconds later.

Bok tried to convince himself that he had imagined it.

Perhaps Garr was right. Maybe he had struck his head before waking up in the forest. The strange changes to his body could have left him confused.

That explanation was difficult to believe, but it was better than accepting that an invisible ghost had begun speaking to him.

Another pig was brought forward.

Bok gripped his knife.

He could feel several people watching him.

They were probably waiting to see whether he would shout again.

Bok ignored them.

He concentrated entirely on his work and repeated the process he had performed hundreds of times before.

The second pig died.

Ding!

[You have killed a Domestic Pig.]

[Experience gained: 4.]

The notification appeared again.

Bok’s body stiffened, but this time he did not scream.

His fingers tightened around the knife as he stared at the floating words.

It had happened again.

This was no exhaustion-induced illusion.

A second panel appeared beneath the first before he could gather his thoughts.

[Status panel unlocked.]

[Name: Bok]

[Race: Human]

[Level: 1]

[Experience: 8/100]

[Class: Hunter]

[Strength: 2.5]

[Agility: 3.2]

[Constitution: 1.8]

[Intelligence: 2.8]

[Attribute Points: 0]

[Skills]

[Basic Dagger Arts{Basic Mastery}, Basic Shot {Basic Mastery}]

Bok glanced around carefully.

Everyone else had already returned their attention to the enormous order. Garr was preparing another animal, while the temporary workers continued carrying water and cleaning the equipment.

No one reacted to the large panel floating in front of him.

They truly could not see it.

Bok swallowed.

He wanted to touch the panel, but doing so in front of everyone would only make him look foolish again. Instead, he stared at it while pretending to inspect his knife.

Level one. What did that mean? Also, what was this class? What did experience points mean?

If the pattern continued, killing one more pig would give him enough experience to exceed the requirement.

What would happen then? Would his level increase?

Bok felt both afraid and curious.

The sudden awakening in the forest, the changes to his body, and the strange panels were undoubtedly connected. He did not understand how, but this was the first real clue he had received.

"Bok!"

Garr’s voice pulled him from his thoughts.

He dismissed the panel from his attention at once and looked up.

Another pig had been brought forward.

"Are you planning to stare at that knife all day?"

"No, Master."

"Then move."

Bok hurried forward and resumed working.

As time passed, his initial fear gradually gave way to curiosity.

Each time he killed a pig, the same notification appeared.

[You have killed a Domestic Pig.]

[Experience gained: 4.]

Bok carefully watched the number increase.

The notifications were real, but no one else could see them. Even when one appeared directly between him and Garr, his master continued working without the slightest reaction.

Bok did his best to behave normally.

He dismissed every notification almost immediately and only opened his status panel whenever Garr turned away. Fortunately, everyone was too busy fulfilling the order to pay much attention to him.

The work was exhausting. Pigs had to be moved from the pens, slaughtered, cleaned and separated into appropriate cuts. Buckets of water travelled constantly between the fire and the workshop, while prepared meat accumulated on the tables.

Despite the labour, Bok noticed that he was not tiring as quickly as expected.

Whether that had something to do with the changes to his body or the strange panel, he could not tell.

He continued working.

[Experience: 48/100]

[Experience: 64/100]

[Experience: 80/100]

The closer the number came to one hundred, the more difficult it became for Bok to control his anticipation.

He still did not understand what a level represented, but the panel had placed him at Level 1. If the experience requirement was completed, he could only assume that his level would increase.

When his experience reached ninety-six, Bok stared at the next pig.

Only four more points.

He tightened his grip on the knife and completed the task with particular care, doing his best not to attract Garr’s attention.

The instant the animal died, a louder chime rang inside his head.

[You have killed a Domestic Pig.]

[Experience gained: 4.]

[Congratulations! You have advanced to Level 2.]

[You have received 4 Attribute Points.]
