Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1278: Command

Chapter 1278: Command

Michael watched the scene in front of him with an odd expression.

For one, he still did not understand why something that felt almost like a performance was being presented before him.

If that was not strange enough, the unconscious one’s presence was unusually weak.

Michael’s senses could clearly detect a body. Even the faint fluctuations of life force were there.

Yet compared to the standing youth, the unconscious one felt almost hollow.

It was as if most of what made a person truly present was missing.

Michael’s gaze moved between the two identical faces.

His curiosity increased.

Perhaps this was some sort of strange constitution shared between the two? A rare bloodline ability? Some unusual soul-related phenomenon?

But even if that was the case, why had they brought this matter to him?

Michael’s fingers tapped lightly against the desk.

The empire was enormous. Something being abnormal did not automatically mean it required the Emperor’s personal attention.

Whatever this was, someone in the chain of command had apparently decided it was important enough to reach him.

His gaze shifted toward the Silver Guard.

Seeing Michael turn toward him, the Silver Guard stepped forward at once and saluted.

"Your Majesty."

Michael gestured for him to continue.

The guard straightened.

"There is a serious matter that concerns the empire and requires Your Majesty’s attention."

Something sharpened in Michael’s gaze.

"The empire itself?"

He paused briefly.

"Do you mean something under the direct control of the imperial administration, or does this extend to the kingdoms and forces that answer to the empire?"

"The latter, Your Majesty."

Michael’s fingers stopped tapping against the desk as he wondered if he had heard correctly.

His eyes moved back toward the two identical youths.

Surely this matter had something to do with them.

But no matter how deeply he observed either one, they were weak. Extremely weak.

Even the conscious youth was insignificant by the standards of anyone Michael normally dealt with.

So how could something related to these two somehow concern several kingdoms under the empire?

The Silver Guard noticed Michael’s confusion.

"It is difficult for me to explain properly, Your Majesty."

He glanced toward the standing youth.

"It would be better if he described what happened himself."

Michael looked toward Bok.

Before the boy could say anything, however, the guard added something else.

"All I know is that similar cases have already been detected in several kingdoms across the empire."

The office went silent, with both Michael and Bok showing a measure of surprise on their faces.

Michael’s eyes narrowed.

Similar cases?

His first thought was still that perhaps this was some strange twin-related phenomenon.

If this was indeed a case happening everywhere in the empire, then it was indeed something that should be brought to his attention. Thinking of it this way, the slight irritation Michael had felt at being disturbed during paperwork disappeared.

Bok’s reaction was completely different from Michael.

His eyes widened.

There were others?

Until now, he had believed whatever happened to him was unique.

Hearing that people in other places had experienced similar situations left him stunned.

A moment later, Bok felt Michael’s gaze settle fully on him.

A chill ran through his body.

Until now, he had been doing his best not to look directly at the Emperor.

Rumors had already spread far beyond the capital that the new ruler of the Eternal Crown was young.

Bok had heard them before.

He simply had not expected young to mean this young.

The person sitting behind the desk did not look more than three years older than him.

At first glance, that should have made the situation less frightening, but it didn’t. There was nothing about Michael’s demeanor that felt like that of an ordinary teenager.

Even the silence around him carried a strange pressure Bok could not explain.

From the moment he entered the office, Bok had unconsciously avoided meeting Michael’s gaze. But now that their eyes had met, Bok found that he could not look away.

The pressure was not physical. Michael was not deliberately releasing any aura either.

It was just an instinctive pressure Bok felt fall on him. Under this condition, he could only do as the other party wanted, and a few seconds later, he began explaining everything from four days ago.

The strange awakening in the forest. The invisible panels only he could see. The sudden ability to gain experience by killing. His first level increase while working at the butcher shop. The attributes. The Attribute Points. The skills that appeared without him understanding why.

Then came the discovery of the second body.

Bok explained how he had returned home only to find his original body lying unconscious inside. How he later discovered that only one body could remain active at a time. How moving his consciousness into one caused the other to fall into an unresponsive state.

He continued with the following days. The hunting. The goblins. The rapid increase in strength. His plan to become an adventurer.

Then the incident the previous evening. His master finding the original body. The villagers panicking after seeing two identical versions of him. The investigation that followed. And finally, the sequence of reports that brought him all the way here.

Throughout the explanation, Michael did not interrupt.

The more he listened, however, the more his composure slipped.

No one dared to speak after Bok finished.

A heavy pressure seemed to settle over the room.

It was not something Michael released intentionally, but the change in his expression alone was enough to make both Bok and the Silver Guard remain completely still.

Michael stared at the unconscious body for several seconds.

Then he suddenly stood.

Bok instinctively tensed.

Michael ignored him and walked toward the large window behind his desk.

From there, much of the imperial capital could be seen beneath the fading evening light.

For a few moments, he said nothing.

Then he turned his head slightly toward the Silver Guard.

"Pass down this command to those below."
