Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1284: Entering The Zeroth Layer [2]

Chapter 1284: Entering The Zeroth Layer [2]

Michael watched the girl for a moment before reaching toward the stack of documents beside him.

He pulled out a fresh sheet of paper and placed it neatly on the desk.

Normally, work like this should never have fallen to an Emperor, as there were more than enough officials, scribes, ministers, and administrators in the Eternal Crown capable of recording information for him.

However, Michael had deliberately chosen to handle the confirmed cases personally for now.

He still wanted information about Awakeners to remain as restricted as possible. It was impossible to keep it secret forever; with so many cases surfacing, it had already begun turning into something of an open secret. Still, a bit of delay before the storm would be nice.

Besides, the work itself was not difficult. It was just extremely boring.

Michael picked up a pen.

"Name?"

The girl’s shoulders tightened slightly.

"Rina Vell, Your Majesty."

Michael wrote it down.

"Age?"

"Sixteen."

"Where do you live?"

"The southern district, on Moon Market Street, Your Majesty."

Her voice was quiet as her trembling body seemed to relax a bit.

Michael continued filling the sheet.

"What do you do?"

Rina hesitated for a moment.

"I help at my aunt’s laundry shop."

Michael nodded and wrote it down.

The questions continued one after another.

They were basic and simple. However, Michael couldn’t help but still feel a bit of irritation.

Since the Land of Origin was sooner or later going to start merging with the outside, he should really bring his empire into a technological era. What the hell was this primitive documentation process?

While Michael was grumbling inwardly, the silence in the office made Rina start to panic again.

Is this the Emperor? He’s truly this young?!

Her fingers pressed together nervously.

Just like many in the capital, she had never seen Michael before, but she had heard rumors of his youth.

If there was something the capital gossiped about regarding the new Emperor, it was either his rumored godlike appearance, suspicions about his true identity, his personal strength, or his true age.

Before meeting him, Rina had many expectations, but seeing him in person was different.

Much different.

The Emperor looked younger than she expected.

However, it somehow made him more intimidating rather than less.

Rina swallowed nervously as she took several secret peeks at his face.

The rumors indeed do not lie! The new Emperor is truly annoyingly handsome!

The thought appeared in her mind without permission.

Rina’s nervousness worsened at once.

What sort of stupid thoughts am I really thinking in a situation like this?! Rina berated herself, but couldn’t help taking several more glances at Michael’s appearance.

Too bad he’s completely out of my reach.

Rina couldn’t help but compare their standing in life, and felt some strange sense of loss in her heart.

The ancients indeed did not lie. Women obsessed with novels had wonderful minds capable of thinking of anything.

Michael, completely unaware of the ridiculous thoughts passing through the girl’s head, continued.

"Tell me exactly what happened when you awakened."

Rina took a breath.

She explained how she had gone to sleep normally several nights ago and found herself lying beside a dirt road several kilometers outside the capital upon awakening.

Michael’s pen moved steadily across the paper as he listened to the girl’s recount.

When he was done, he had Rina stop talking, then took several glances at her appearance before reaching out to draw a pencil from his desk and turning the sheet of paper over.

Michael took several more glances at Rina before lowering his gaze to the blank side of the paper.

The pencil in his hand swept across the surface at a speed no ordinary artist could hope to follow.

Lines appeared almost at once on the paper.

The shape of a face. Then eyes.

The slightly narrow bridge of a nose.

More lines appeared, and it didn’t take long for a black-and-white "Rina" to emerge on the page.

Within several seconds, Michael stopped and looked at the detailed portrait of Rina that now occupied the upper half of the page.

It looked almost photographic.

However, Michael looked at it with a trace of dislike in his eyes.

He suddenly missed technology again. A camera would have solved this problem in a second.

All he had to do was take a picture, print it, and attach it to the record. Done.

At the same time, he wondered if he could learn a spell related to copying or printing images.

There had to be something like that.

A spell capable of recording someone’s appearance and transferring it onto paper sounded far less complicated than half the magic he had already encountered.

The portrait might look like a thankless extra task, but Michael considered it necessary for record keeping. This was something even the people of this world knew.

As for why Michael had not simply assigned an artist to sit beside him and handle the portraits, he saw little point.

Drawing something like this took him only a few seconds.

His control over his body was far beyond human standards.

His perception allowed him to notice tiny details at a glance, while his hand could reproduce them with ridiculous precision.

Calling in another person would barely save any time and would only expose more information about the people being processed.

Michael placed the pencil down and turned the sheet back around.

Rina, who had watched the entire thing happen, looked between him and the portrait with widened eyes.

Michael ignored her reaction and continued on with his question.

"What is the name of your Class?"

A flicker of unease crossed Rina’s face, and Michael caught it right away.

"Is something wrong?" Michael inquired.

Rina quickly shook her head.

"No, Your Majesty."

Michael studied her for a moment before continuing.

"You should be able to see your status panel, right?"

Rina nodded at once.

Though the way the Emperor pronounced the phrase felt strangely natural on his tongue, she understood he was talking about the strange floating information she had been seeing since her awakening.

A trace of hesitation appeared on her face, followed by embarrassment.

Michael noticed both. He raised an eyebrow slightly.

Rina’s fingers tightened around each other.

She really did not want to answer. However, she was standing before the Emperor.

Delaying him made her scared.

Rina lowered her gaze slightly and spoke in a quiet voice.

"My Class is... Maid."

Michael, who had just started writing again, stopped.

The tip of his pen remained frozen against the paper, and he slowly looked up at Rina with surprise.
