Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1291: Fate and Weird Future

Chapter 1291: Fate and Weird Future

Michael raised a hand before Bok could continue.

"Enough."

Bok stopped at once.

His excitement had clearly gotten away from him.

Behind him, Rina covered her mouth slightly, obviously holding back a smile.

As for why Bok knew the names of several modern weapons and even had them in his possession, it was obviously because of Michael.

Though he didn’t dare to delve too deeply into Jester’s Law whenever he practiced with it, for fear of losing a few levels and having his advancement task rewritten, the little he had done had made Michael deeply sensitive to "fate," which in turn, both subconsciously and consciously, affected his actions.

Subconsciously, it made him a bit more indulgent in his actions, doing things simply because he felt like it, without thinking too deeply. Whether it was placing a spatial mark on an Awakener in the Origin Battlefield arena, forming connections during his climb through the rankings, or gifting Bok an opportunity simply because he liked the boy, many of these actions were taken without much thought, purely because he wanted to do them, which to Michael’s eyes felt natural.

Whether it was natural or not, only a certain undead could tell for sure.

Of course, Michael did not go through the trouble of going to Aurora and having the Supernatural Association "willingly" let him "buy" military-grade weapons for Bok simply out of goodwill. It was indeed mostly out of goodwill, but Michael also wanted to use the chance to test several things out.

Aside from the efficiency of modern weapons across several ranks, he also wanted to see if he could give Bok an advanced Class transition.

Before the existence of Class Scrolls, Class Transitions had already existed, with many Awakeners finding the opportunity to gain one as a reward during their Class advancement task.

Like Beast Tamer to Dragon Tamer, or Archer to Gunner, Hunter also had an advanced transition called Mechanical Hunter.

The requirements for those advanced Classes were rarely simple.

A Beast Tamer who wanted to become a Dragon Tamer, for example, could not simply contract one dragon-blooded beast and expect the system to hand over the Class.

Their entire development had to lean in that direction.

They needed to repeatedly tame beasts possessing dragon bloodlines, and their Skills had to support that path, which would increase the likelihood of the transition becoming available as a reward when advancing.

The deeper their foundation leaned toward dragons, the better.

Then, during a Rank advancement, if their performance was high enough and their foundation sufficiently specialized, the Origin Will could include Dragon Tamer among the advancement rewards.

Archers worked similarly.

An Archer who began abandoning bows in favor of guns or any similarly shaped projectile weapon could gradually push their Class in another direction.

It was not the exact weapon itself that mattered.

It was the combat concept.

An Archer who built enough Skills and Mastery around firearms could eventually receive an advanced transition such as Gunner during an advancement evaluation.

Michael suspected there were even stranger variations depending on the weapons used.

The Hunter Class worked the same way as these two. Aside from also being able to become a Gunner, one of their other transitions was Mechanical Hunter.

That was the path Michael had in mind for Bok.

Unlike a normal Hunter, a Mechanical Hunter needed to deliberately merge modern technology with supernatural combat.

The key was integration.

Science could not remain separate from magic.

The two needed to become one system.

The more naturally they became part of the Hunter’s style, the closer the Class foundation moved toward the Mechanical Hunter path.

Skill Mastery mattered just as much.

As for whether it was possible for an uneducated commoner to actually handle learning enough science for such a path without slowing down their growth, Michael had the Universal Cornerstone.

Believe it or not, under the Knowledge section of the Cornerstone, there were entries for things as mundane as basic mathematics.

He even saw the option to purchase basic algebra!

The Origin Battlefield was truly a divine cultivation ground!

The first time Michael saw them, he had stared at the list for several seconds.

Seeing something like [Basic Algebra] sitting only a few entries away from knowledge related to spells such as Fireball had felt absurd.

Yet the longer he thought about it, the more it made sense.

Magic was knowledge.

Science was knowledge.

To the Universal Cornerstone, there did not seem to be much distinction between them.

If something could be learned, structured, and transmitted, then it could apparently be exchanged for.

This alone removed one of Michael’s biggest concerns regarding Bok, or any other native Awakener under him, being left behind due to illiteracy in modern knowledge.

Normally, trying to turn someone from a medieval society into someone technologically literate would take years.

Before firearms, one would first need to explain basic mechanics.

Before mechanics, mathematics.

Before advanced machinery, more complex principles.

Before mixing science with magic, they would need to understand both sides well enough that one did not become meaningless noise.

Bok seemed somewhat clever, but cleverness did not magically replace education.

Michael could not expect him to jump from butchering pigs and hunting goblins to understanding enchanted rifles, mana circuits, recoil compensation systems, and magical engineering in a few months.

But with the Universal Cornerstone, that problem became much smaller.

He could simply purchase the relevant knowledge in stages.

Thinking of the potential future he had planned for Bok, Michael’s expression grew slightly strange.

The future for all beings in the universe was going to become truly ridiculous.

This really was a new era.

If Universal Cornerstones became widespread enough, then entire civilizations could potentially skip centuries of development.

Michael felt he would only be surprised if he one day saw the child of a Cornerstone owner, at the age of five, with a Class, studying advanced algebra.

Children could begin learning things that once required...

Perhaps one day that would become normal.

A generation born after the Origin Battlefield might grow up in a world completely different from his own.

To them, buying knowledge from a Universal Cornerstone could become as ordinary as attending school.
