Chapter 1331: Let’s Talk
Chapter 1331: Let’s Talk
Brian understood the Federation well enough to know that even its most stubborn members wouldn’t risk provoking Michael by targeting his family.
Hearing Brian’s confident assurance, however, Michael’s lips twitched slightly.
"Teacher Brian, does that also apply to demonic supernaturals?"
Brian paused. Then his expression became awkward.
"Well..."
He coughed lightly.
"That’s a different matter."
Michael shook his head.
"That’s exactly what I’m worried about."
Brian sighed.
Although the Federation and the major powers of Aurora could be expected to act rationally, the same couldn’t necessarily be said for demonic supernaturals. Many operated outside the established order, and some were willing to commit atrocities or even sacrifice themselves to achieve their objectives.
Against such individuals, the threat of retaliation wasn’t always an effective deterrent.
Brian rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"Still, I wouldn’t say the situation is hopeless. There are ways to ensure your aunt’s safety without requiring you to remain beside her constantly."
Michael leaned forward slightly.
"Such as?"
"Don’t you have a Demigod-level undead?" Brian asked.
Michael blinked.
"Not to mention the dozens of King-level and Emperor-level undead under your command. Why don’t you simply assign some of them to protect your aunt?"
Michael’s lips twitched. He had already considered this arrangement, but hearing Brian suggest it so casually made him realize just how extravagant it was.
What kind of treatment was that?
Even the most important figures in Aurora couldn’t necessarily enjoy the protection of a Demigod and dozens of powerful undead.
Michael didn’t think there was anything wrong with being extravagant when it came to Aunt Mia’s safety. If anything, he would have preferred to assign even more powerful undead to her. Unfortunately, he only had so many available.
Seeing Michael’s expression, Brian chuckled.
"With such protection, anyone who wants to harm your aunt would have to think very carefully about whether they’re prepared to pay the price. Of course, the trade-off is that you lose some combat power on your side, but if I’m not wrong, you should be able to do without one in your layer of the Origin Battlefield, right? In any case, this is the only solution I can think of that might deter those bastards."
Michael nodded. He understood Brian’s reasoning, as well as the helplessness behind it.
Perhaps this was why so many powerful supernaturals established organizations of their own. No matter how strong they became, they couldn’t personally protect everyone they cared about.
Fortunately, Michael didn’t have to worry about finding trustworthy subordinates. His undead were already bound to him and would carry out his orders without hesitation.
With such a lineup protecting Aunt Mia, any demonic supernatural who still dared to target her would have to be a complete idiot.
Michael didn’t know exactly how many Demigods the demonic supernaturals possessed, but he was certain there couldn’t be too many. Demigods weren’t cabbages that could be found growing everywhere, after all.
And even if the demonic side somehow decided to give him enough face to dispatch two or more Demigods specifically to deal with Aunt Mia, that didn’t necessarily mean they would succeed.
The Demigod undead assigned to protect her wouldn’t have to fight them to the death. It could simply take Aunt Mia and flee while the other undead delayed the attackers.
Still, unexpected abilities and powerful treasures could overturn even the best arrangements. However, if he continued worrying about every possible danger, he might as well never allow Aunt Mia to leave his side.
And that wasn’t what he wanted.
Now that I think about it, I’ve been far too cautious when there was always a solution available. If push comes to shove and those demonic supernaturals dare to cross my path again, I’ll unleash all my undead into the realm and wipe them out until not even a trace of them remains!
Thinking this far, Michael finally relaxed a little.
"You’re right, Teacher Brian. I suppose I’ve been worrying too much."
Brian smiled.
"That’s understandable. When it comes to the people we care about, it’s difficult not to worry."
For a brief moment, his expression became distant. Michael noticed the change, and a thoughtful look appeared on his face.
With Aunt Mia’s safety addressed for now, Michael decided it was time to move on to the next matter.
Isabella.
Teacher Brian’s daughter, who had died several decades ago. In fact, this was the main reason Michael had requested to meet Brian.
Meanwhile, Brian was considering how to put in a good word for the Federation without appearing to defend its mistakes.
Just as he was considering how to approach the subject, Michael suddenly spoke.
"Teacher Brian, there’s something else I’d like to discuss with you."
"Oh?"
Brian raised his eyebrows.
"Actually, it’s something rather important, so I’d prefer we discuss it somewhere else."
Hearing this, Brian was puzzled. They were already alone in the office, and even putting his own abilities aside, Michael should have no difficulty preventing others from eavesdropping.
Was there really a need to change locations?
He was about to ask when he noticed the serious expression on Michael’s face and decided against it.
"Alright."
Brian nodded.
"Where do you want to go?"
"Somewhere a little more private."
Michael stood up from his seat and approached Brian.
"Teacher Brian, excuse me for a moment."
Before Brian could respond, Michael placed a hand on his shoulder.
A spatial fluctuation enveloped them, and their surroundings vanished.
When Brian’s vision cleared, they were standing in an expansive wilderness far outside Silvercrest City. Distant mountains stretched across the horizon, and there wasn’t another person in sight.
Brian surveyed the wilderness, impressed that Michael had covered such a distance in one teleportation.
Truly, an impressive youth. As expected of the eleventh most powerful Emperor-class supernatural in the universe.
Although the gap between Awakeners and ordinary supernaturals narrowed considerably from Rank 3 onward, exceptional Awakeners still tended to hold the advantage. It was one of the reasons Michael’s ranking in the Origin Battlefield was taken so seriously.
However, Brian was more interested in why Michael had brought him here.
