Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1336: I’m Back

Chapter 1336: I’m Back

"DAD!!!"

Brian’s thoughts came to a complete halt.

What am I doing?

His gaze fell upon the two figures standing in the wilderness below. His heart began pounding violently.

That voice...

He had heard it. There was no mistaking the fact that someone had just called him Dad.

But why? Why did that voice sound so familiar? It was strange. Although the voice seemed to lack emotions, it wasn’t without it.

It was strange yet it evoked a sense of vague familiarity.

Brian instinctively placed a hand against his chest. The necklace beneath his clothes was trembling.

What is happening?

His thoughts raced as an outrageous possibility surfaced in his mind, one he didn’t dare consider.

No...

It can’t be.

Brian stared at the skeleton.

He had dreamed of something like this for years. Ever since Isabella’s death, there had hardly been a time when he hadn’t thought about her. Even after recovering her Law Seed, he had secretly continued searching for ways to bring her back. It was one of the reasons he had become so determined to reach greater heights.

Everything seemed to be pointing toward the same conclusion. But he was afraid. Afraid that he was misunderstanding the situation. It was this fear that had driven him to such madness just moments ago.

He could barely think straight.

Just then, the voice sounded again.

"Dad!"

This time, it was much clearer.

Brian’s entire body trembled. Before he even realized what he was doing, he disappeared from the sky. The next moment, he appeared directly before the skeleton.

His sudden arrival caused Isabella to stiffen slightly. However, she didn’t retreat. The violet flames within her eye sockets flickered.

Brian studied her.

Up close, the sight was even more difficult to accept. There was no flesh on her body. No familiar face. No beautiful eyes or the smile he remembered. Only a skeleton with violet soul flames burning within its skull.

Yet the Law Seed hanging from his neck was reacting so intensely that he could feel its warmth spreading across his chest.

Brian slowly raised both hands. They trembled as he reached toward her. However, just as his fingers were about to touch her shoulders, he hesitated.

He didn’t know what he was afraid of.

His lips moved several times before he finally managed to speak.

"Who..."

His voice was hoarse.

"Who are you?"

Isabella looked at him. She was trembling too, but she still reached forward and took one of his hands. Her skeletal fingers wrapped around his palm.

"It’s me, Dad."

Brian went still.

"Isabella."

She tightened her grip slightly.

"I’m Isabella."

The old man stared at the skeletal hand holding his own.

The sensation was cold. There was no warmth of living flesh. Yet the simple gesture made his eyes redden.

"Isabella..."

He repeated the name quietly. Then he shook his head and swallowed.

"Tell me something."

Isabella tilted her head slightly.

"What?"

Brian opened his mouth. Then closed it again.

There were countless things he wanted to ask, but now that the opportunity had arrived, he couldn’t think of a single sensible question. Eventually, he blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

"What was your favorite food when you were little?"

"..."

Isabella stared at him.

Michael, who had been watching quietly from nearby, also looked somewhat surprised.

That’s what he wants to ask?

Isabella seemed equally confused. However, she still answered.

"Mother’s cooking."

Brian’s expression changed.

"That’s not an answer. What dish?"

"Anything Mother made."

"..."

"Except the vegetable soup."

Brian froze.

Isabella continued.

"You always told Mother that her vegetable soup was delicious, but whenever she wasn’t looking, you secretly poured yours into my bowl."

"..."

Brian’s mouth opened slightly.

"You..."

"Then you would tell me to finish everything because wasting food was bad."

Brian’s lips quivered, and he immediately asked another question.

"What did I give you on your birthday when you first became a supernatural?"

Isabella answered again.

Then came another question. And another. Some concerned her childhood. A few were so trivial that even Michael wondered why Brian remembered them.

Yet Isabella answered every single one. Occasionally, she even corrected him when he misremembered certain details.

At some point, Brian’s questions became increasingly ridiculous.

"What was the name of the dog we had when you were young?"

"Brownie."

"What color was it?"

"...Brown."

"Are you sure?"

"Dad."

"What?"

"Are you seriously asking me what color a dog named Brownie was?"

Brian, however, didn’t seem to notice anything unusual about his questions. His eyes were already filled with tears, yet he continued watching Isabella as though he was afraid to look away.

Finally, after another long silence, he asked one last question.

"Your mother..."

His voice faltered. Brian swallowed.

"What was your mother’s favorite phrase?"

Isabella paused briefly. Then she answered.

"That’s a problem for future me."

She continued without hesitation.

"And whenever her decisions came back to bite her, she’d say, ’Past me has betrayed me again.’"

For a moment, Brian stared at her.

Then he burst into laughter.

"Hahaha!"

But his laughter soon turned into sobs.

"That woman..."

Tears rolled down his cheeks as he pulled Isabella into his arms.

"My daughter... You’re really back."

Brian finally broke down, holding Isabella tightly against his chest.

"My daughter..."

His voice cracked.

"My daughter..."

Isabella froze for a moment. Then, slowly, her skeletal hands rested against her father’s back.

"Dad..."

"I’m back."

Brian tightened his embrace.

"I’m sorry, Isabella."

His words came out between sobs.

"I couldn’t protect you."

"Dad..."

"I should have..."

"Father."

Her voice became slightly firmer.

Brian stopped speaking.

Isabella held him a little tighter.

"It’s fine."

She paused.

"I’m here now."

Michael’s gaze swept across the devastated landscape, taking in the scorched earth left behind by their earlier confrontation. Fortunately, the destruction had been contained, and there were no signs of any casualties nearby.

He turned back toward Brian and Isabella.

Seeing the two still holding each other, a faint smile appeared on his face.

He was satisfied.
