Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1341: Mistake

Chapter 1341: Mistake

Michael was stunned by the content of the panel in front of him.

Why did the number of True Gods in the universe suddenly reduce by two?

Was it... was it death?!

Michael’s heart shook in shock, but before he could think further, the panels disappeared and were replaced by something else. At the same time, the Origin Will’s gaze withdrew.

[Special circumstances detected.]

[The effect of the title, The One Who Origin Acknowledged, is undergoing reconstruction.]

[Reconstruction in progress...]

[The effect of the title, The One Who Origin Acknowledged, is being adjusted.]

[Reconstruction completed.]

[Title: The One Who Origin Acknowledged]

[There have only been a few individuals who could leave a deep impression on the will of all origin.]

[Effect: Allows the title holder to actively seek the presence of the Origin Will and ask a question.]

[Success Rate: 50%]

[Cooldown: 6 months after a successful inquiry.]

[Note: If the inquiry fails to receive an answer, the cooldown is reduced to 3 months.]

"..."

Michael could almost guess with his nose why the title had undergone such a major reconstruction.

It was most likely because of his shamelessness in asking questions, and the Origin Will couldn’t be bothered with him.

Another possibility was that he had touched upon some taboo knowledge after witnessing two True Gods suddenly disappear from the count. Even if it wasn’t taboo, perhaps it simply wasn’t time for him to learn such things, so the Origin Will had placed a limit on him.

I guess I should have reined in my curiosity. In the end, it’s not all that bad. Not only is the warning about the Origin Will ignoring me the more I ask gone, but my chances of successfully getting an answer each time have even increased.

It’s only the cooldown that counts as a nerf, but that depends on how I look at it. In any case, I’ve learned enough for now. Most likely, I won’t even need to ask the Origin Will for anything in a long time... hopefully.

Michael soon put aside the information he had obtained from the Origin Will.

Although the revelations concerning True Gods and Primordial Beings were astonishing, there was little he could do with that knowledge at his current level.

Even the sudden disappearance of two True Gods from the Origin Will’s count, as disturbing as it was, had nothing to do with him.

At least, Michael hoped so.

I’ve already learned more than enough for one day.

With that thought, Michael turned his attention back to the notifications concerning Lily’s advancement.

Or perhaps it would be more appropriate to call her Nyxvorath now.

"Nyxvorath, the Darkness That Devours All..."

Michael muttered the name.

He had to admit that it suited Lily rather well. He wondered whether he should start calling her Nyxvorath from now on.

Putting that thought aside, he continued inspecting the changes brought about by her advancement.

Unlike the mysterious True Name, which was rare even among Rank 5 supernaturals, Lily had also obtained something common to Demigods.

A Divine Ability.

[Divine Ability: Abyss of Eternal Consumption]

[Effect: Creates a singularity of devouring darkness that exerts an overwhelming attraction upon everything within its domain. The closer a target approaches the center, the greater the force exerted upon it. Objects and beings unable to withstand this force will be compressed and consumed.]

[Note: The scale, strength, and duration of the abyss depend on Nyxvorath’s Divine Power and mastery of the ability. Targets possessing sufficient power or compatible authorities may resist its effects.]

Michael nodded in satisfaction after reading the description.

Although he hadn’t personally witnessed the ability in action, it sounded rather powerful.

Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be able to test it anytime soon. Lily had only just advanced to Rank 5, and her realm was still stabilizing.

Nevertheless, Michael had high expectations.

After all, he had already witnessed just how extraordinary the Divine Abilities of Demigods could be.

Take Lunara and Valeria, for example.

Both were powerful, but their circumstances were different from Lily’s.

Although Lunara and Valeria were currently under his command, Michael didn’t consider their positions comparable to those of Lily and his other long-standing undead.

For one, Lunara’s relationship with him was established through an agreement between equals. Even if she currently accompanied him and provided assistance, the arrangement wasn’t necessarily permanent.

As for Valeria, her situation was slightly different. If Michael hadn’t employed certain powerful methods to transform her into his undead, she might have refused to become his undead even if he reanimated her. Of course, the possibility of this was low and she was quite loyal. Only the connection depth was somewhat weak.

While he appreciated the strength they brought to his legion, Lily occupied a completely different position in his heart.

Naturally, he hoped that her Divine Ability would be even more extraordinary than theirs.

Thinking about this, Michael couldn’t help feeling a little regretful.

"What a pity..."

Unlike Lunara, Lily couldn’t inhabit his body and allow him to access her abilities directly.

The ghost’s peculiar nature made it possible for her to reside within him, something most of his other undead couldn’t replicate.

Michael suddenly paused.

"Hm?"

An idea flashed through his mind.

Lily might not be able to inhabit his body, but that didn’t necessarily mean he couldn’t access her power through another method.

Could I use my Law to recreate her Divine Ability?

It wasn’t a baseless idea.

The Law of Echoed Existence allowed Michael to reproduce Laws and abilities belonging to existences with whom he shared sufficiently deep connections.

And in that regard, Lunara and Valeria couldn’t compare to Lily.

Even after advancing to a Demigod, Lily’s connection to him remained just as strong as before.

The only difference was that she could be a little more willful now.

Of course, there was one important problem.

A Divine Ability was not an ordinary Law skill. It represented a power belonging to the Demigod level, something that could only be awakened after reaching Rank 5.

He wasn’t sure whether the depth of their connection would even matter here.

But there was no harm in trying.

At worst, he would simply fail to reproduce it.

Without further hesitation, he extended his right hand, his palm facing upward. Closing his eyes, he activated the Law of Echoed Existence.

A faint fluctuation spread through his body.

Michael didn’t attempt to directly imitate the Divine Ability based on the description he had just read.

Instead, he focused on his connection with Lily, attempting to reach beyond her ordinary abilities and touch the newly awakened power within her.

Almost immediately, he encountered something different.

Compared to the Laws he had previously reproduced, this power felt considerably deeper.

It was similar to when he had attempted to copy Lily’s Law Domain and failed because of its depth, but there was a subtle difference this time.

Perhaps because the Divine Ability was only a part of the greater whole, Michael realized he could probe deeper.

Suddenly, something fell into place.

His eyes snapped open.

"Huh?"

A tiny sphere of darkness had appeared above his open palm.

It was no larger than a marble, perfectly round and suspended a few centimeters above his hand.

It’s really the Abyss of Eternal Consumption!

Despite its ordinary appearance, Michael could sense the peculiar attraction originating from its center.

"Haha..."

Michael couldn’t help laughing.

It actually worked!

He had only attempted this out of curiosity, yet the result was beyond his expectations.

A Rank 3 supernatural reproducing the Divine Ability of a Rank 5 Demigod?

If news of such a thing spread, Michael suspected that even some Demigods would find it difficult to believe.

Of course, he understood that what he had created was merely a weakened version of the original.

But that didn’t diminish its significance.

Michael’s excitement grew as he cautiously supplied a little more mana to the sphere.

The additional mana caused the darkness to tremble violently before expanding from the size of a marble to that of an egg.

Before Michael could investigate further, it swelled to the size of a fist.

The attraction originating from its center became several times stronger.

The papers resting on Michael’s desk began sliding toward his hand. His clothes fluttered, and even the air inside the office started flowing toward the sphere.

Michael’s expression changed.

He immediately stopped supplying mana.

However, the sphere continued growing, rapidly draining his reserves.

Michael instinctively attempted to sever the connection.

Unfortunately, it was already too late.

The sphere abruptly contracted, becoming even smaller than before, only for an enormous force to erupt from its center.

Boom!

The desk in front of Michael shattered.

Wooden fragments, documents, and everything else nearby were pulled toward the darkness, crushed into tiny fragments, and swallowed.

Michael’s eyes widened.

Damn it!

He had underestimated the ability.

He’d assumed he could control it as long as he kept its scale small. Even if something went wrong, he believed he could immediately sever the connection.

Unfortunately, his control was far from sufficient.

Michael forcefully circulated his Law, attempting to suppress the darkness.

For an instant, the connection weakened, but instead of disappearing, the sphere began drawing even more power from its surroundings.

The walls of the office cracked. The floor beneath Michael’s feet trembled as everything nearby was pulled toward the growing darkness.

At this rate, it wouldn’t be long before the entire building was swallowed.

Worse still, Michael could sense that the ability’s influence was beginning to extend beyond the room.

He didn’t hesitate.

The Law of Echoed Existence fluctuated once more within him, this time targeting Wisdom.

His perception of the surrounding environment changed, and his thoughts began accelerating.

In an impossibly short moment, Michael identified every person within the immediate danger zone and calculated the safest possible destinations.

A fraction of a second passed.

Hundreds of people disappeared simultaneously, replaced by several small terrestrial animals.

The moment the transfer stabilized, Michael prepared to relocate as well.

Unfortunately, his control over the sphere was severely lacking, and he didn’t dare enter the void with this chaotic mess of energy or sever his connection to Lily.

Before he could decide what to do, the darkness expanded again, this time with an enormous increase in size.

The surrounding space bent inward, seemingly folding toward a single point.

The darkness continued expanding.

And Michael, who had been standing closest to its center, disappeared along with everything else.
