Chapter 971: Rynne My Friend
Chapter 971: Rynne My Friend
Everyone who recognised Director Lin’s voice wondered how such a dignified figure could curse like that.
Michael, who had already sensed her gaze on him, could only shake his head helplessly.
I wonder if there’s a way to hide my information from other awakeners, Michael couldn’t help but think.
"H-how did you level up so fast?"
Director Lin was rightfully surprised.
Whatever happened to the idea that the stronger you were, the harder it was to grow?
Were they playing different games?
Why was Michael just one step away from beginning preparations for the next rank?
For such a significant gap at their level, only two things could explain it.
One was that Michael had achieved rare enlightenment that boosted his mastery over his law. Two was that he had killed a large number of monsters.
The first might be possible, but the second seemed unlikely. How many monsters of the same rank would he have had to kill to level up so fast?
As for the possibility of Michael killing above his rank, she did not believe so.
She had tested his powers a week ago. Yes, he was strong, possibly unrivalled at Rank 3, but that was not enough to kill a Rank 4 being.
"No wonder you felt different when I saw you today. How did you level up so fast?!"
Hearing her question, Michael felt helpless and simply chose not to answer, holding Director Lin’s gaze in silence.
Director Lin stared back.
The two maintained eye contact for several seconds before Director Lin finally gave up with a faint snort.
"You’re too secretive."
Michael smiled faintly and said nothing.
Director Lin’s eyes narrowed slightly. For some reason, Michael’s silence made her feel even more suspicious.
She tapped her fingers against the table once.
"Fine. I won’t ask how you levelled up for now."
Michael’s smile became a little more relaxed.
"But," she continued, "if you have any more information about the demonic faction, bring it out now."
Just as Director Lin thought she was overthinking things, she noticed Michael’s expression become a little strange.
Her eyes narrowed.
"...You really do have more?"
Michael coughed softly and looked away for a brief moment.
"Not exactly."
Director Lin stared at him in silence.
Michael scratched his cheek lightly.
"I mean... I do know a few more locations."
Director Lin’s expression stiffened slightly.
Michael added quickly, "But I’m not sure if they’re still accurate."
"You know a few more locations?"
Michael nodded.
"But you’re not sure if they’re accurate?"
"Not fully," Michael said honestly. "The ten I gave you earlier are the ones I’m confident should still be useful. As for the rest, those locations have probably already been abandoned."
Director Lin inhaled slowly.
For a moment, she genuinely did not know whether to laugh or curse again.
She had thought ten locations was already outrageous.
Now Michael was telling her there were more, but he had held them back because they were not certain enough.
This student...
Director Lin rubbed her forehead.
"How many?"
Michael hesitated.
Director Lin’s gaze sharpened.
"Michael."
"...Around twelve."
Director Lin’s hand froze against her forehead.
"Twelve more?"
"Unconfirmed," Michael reminded her seriously.
Director Lin stared at him.
Michael looked sincere, which somehow made him even more suspicious.
For a few seconds, Director Lin said nothing. Then she lowered her hand and spoke in a slow voice.
"List them."
Michael nodded and did not hesitate.
He made sure the new locations he listed were outside his nation, and added a few inconsistencies to some to make them harder to verify but not impossible to find.
By the time he was done, Director Lin was still looking at him with suspicion.
Michael noticed her expression and felt slightly uncomfortable.
"Director Lin, your eyes are scary."
Hearing this, Director Lin exhaled softly.
"Whatever. Even if only two of your locations prove true, this is still valuable."
Michael nodded faintly.
Director Lin’s thoughts moved rapidly.
The academy and the Federation had planned to strike hard.
But with Michael’s information, the scale of that strike could change completely.
If handled properly, this would no longer be a simple suppression operation. It could become a clean, coordinated purge.
Of course, wiping them out entirely would be impossible since the other side did not lack strong experts, but they should be forced into hiding for a while.
After a moment, Director Lin looked back at Michael.
"You said you wanted access to dimensional cracks."
Michael nodded rapidly.
"If even half of what you gave me today proves accurate, I’ll make sure you get more than just access to a few dimensional cracks."
Michael’s expression shifted slightly in confusion. He did not quite understand what she was implying, but to give him a taste of his own medicine, Director Lin did not bother explaining.
Still, Michael’s interest rose.
Director Lin looked at him for a moment before shaking her head.
"You really are a businessman. I never thought the day would come when I’d have to ask someone to act like a proper Necromancer."
Michael did not refute her. Though he was no longer a Necromancer, when he still was he had been half-baked at best.
"Alright, enough chatting. Please ask Mr. Brian to come back into the office. No need for you to return."
You don’t need to tell me twice. Director Lin’s gaze had been so uncomfortable that Michael wanted nothing more than to leave her sight.
Soon he was outside the office building, where he spotted Rynne and Teacher Brian in the distance, talking. After hearing Director Lin call for him, Brian did not hesitate, and soon only Rynne and Michael were left alone.
"Hi."
Michael greeted first.
"Hello."
Rynne answered.
"....."
"....."
Just as Michael was about to use the excuse of wanting to meet up with other friends, Rynne said something that caught his attention.
"I have the space type materials you wanted."
"Rynne, is that a new hairstyle on you?"
